Sad …

It’s so nice up here in Oregon, I wish we could just keep playing shows. But I have to get back to NYC (and London to do the strings for White Limo). I guess I’ll see some of you on the Yellow Umbrella extravaganza, but for all of you who came to the west coast shows, it was great to see you.

Cheers,
DS

As you move towards the northwest, the fresh air gets better and better! I should know…Seattle is my hometown! Just wanted to thank you, Mr. Duncan, for a wonderful show at the Coach House. Your concert was a HUGE outing for me. It was the first time that I have left my two children with a non-relative (and our families don’t live in sunny CA). What a date! Look forward to January when we get to hear your new album! How exciting too to learn about your collaboration with Mr. Poe. Thanks again!Smile!

Oh, I was at the Symphony this evening in Philly…..Opening week for the Philadelphia Orchestra. I was inspired to write. I may put it up on SF. The evening was mostly “Beethoven”, - Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op.21 and the ever Great…Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67.
I was inspired by a Frensch piece, by Dutilleux - The Shadows of Time, Five Episodes for Orchestra with Children’s Voices. :)

imagine I screwed up the word “French.”
I hate spelling errors…drives me nuts. sorry.

Cheers again! :) love…. Goodnight Duncan

Singing and pacing in the looney bin was my entertainment on Casbah night…why does our timing have to suck so much Duncan?!!? Probably because I can never get to a computer…have you received my snail mail however? Well, I wish I was out there touring with you my soul soother.

  8. leveriza Says:

Awww, the beautiful Pacific Northwest…if you love it…maybe you can move(permanently) to CA, that way it won’t be such a long trip… :-) Sorry, did you mention, London…there are a couple of plays I would like to see at the West End…when are we leaving, lol…it has been a long six months since I was last there… :-) Cheers to great shows and big hugs to you and the gang…miss you guys… :-)

Duncan, thanks for creating new melodic memories! =) Had a fantastic time. and can’t wait for your west coast return! Big hugs! =)

Beautiful show - even the rain looked pretty against the lights until everyone had to leave! :)

  11. the_optimist Says:

Aww… don’t be sad. I’m in NYC!!! Lol, as if that’s gonna help- anyways, good luck with the recording process, and I hope you’re back out on the road soon :) Chin up, my good man.

Wow… strings in London. Don’t suppose there’s any chance of you playing a show while you’re here?! Would really love to see you play live after all this time (been a huge fan since the first album). I’m sure there’s enough of us Brits to give you a warm reception!

  13. Sheikfreek Says:

How come Texas gets no love on these tours??

  14. antmusic Says:

The concert was AWESOME (better then expected). My Ex-wife and I really enjoyed it. We were officially divorced on Friday, and we celebrated by going to Portland and seeing our favorite music artist, Duncan Sheik (and we got pictures of us with him too!!). David Poe was WONDERFUL!! I can’t wait to hear what the new band is called. I recomended “Dacun” or even “Dunc Monkey” … oooh just thought of a punny one, “POE-DUNC” !!!

  15. Tansy Says:

Oh honey, you sound so melancholy…
Don?t be sad. At least you?re going home.
    For a brief stint, anyway.

    Was it rainy in Oregon?
It’s been raining here for the last two days.
It’s been so dry all summer…
It’s good to finally have nature refresh herself.

    Enjoy your stay home.
I hear London’s lovely this time of year…
Be happy that you get to experience the world in all its varying expressions of culture. Even if it’s not an in-depth experience. It?s an experience, regardless.

Be safe, and make those strings sing darlin’.
I’ll see you in a few weeks.

What has been the latest set list?

  18. heathtown Says:

I got to see your show here in San Francisco this past Thursday. It definitely rocked. David Poe’s set was cool too. I especially liked the rapport on stage between you and the guys. Especially the discussion about the van phrase “Hooray!” And am definitely digging “White Limousine” and “Land” off of your EP. Keep up with the great songs.

Was trying to figure out the name of one of the songs that was played? It was one of the songs that you and Mr. Poe played together. All I really remember about it was something in the lyrics about drinking wine? Not sure if it makes sense. Also, I really think it would be great to have a live version of one of your shows available in the future. You’ve probably heard this a million times. But it’s just that the set you guys played was awesome.

    Thanks for rockin’,

    Shaun

  19. blackwuzzy Says:

“Every Song on the EP is so Pure, and holds so, so much truth in it. Duncan’s Musical Genius comes in the way, not only by way of Voice, Musical Composition, but in the very depth and meaning of each and every song; A True Expression of his Heart, of everyone’s hearts. What a gift to behold.” -

Thank you ever so much Mr. Sheik.

    Michele

  20. Angelina Says:

Thank you so much for the beautiful show. You are a gracious host and are very kind to your fans. I regret not talking with you after the show. I hope you are enjoying a respit from the chaos and will be back to see us soon. Angelina

  21. JaedaP Says:

I don’t even know if Duncan really reads these things, but if he does…

You won’t remember me. I am just a face in the sea of others after an exhausting concert. My sister, however, may ring a bell. We were just at your concert at the Aladdin, and she proposed (again) with a ring pop. If that doesn’t strike a chord with you, you have a very strange life.

The concert, btw, was AMAZING! Thank you for that. Can’t wait till you come to the coast again. Well, P-town anyway.

My question, however, was this. When my sis popped the question, you said “kind of too late.” Did I miss a tabloid?

I don’t really expect an answer from you. But I figure some fan will reply if they see this. You show was all I could have hoped for. The EP is sweet! Waiting (im)patiently for jan/feb for the CD. Thanks again. Get some rest.

  22. Topaz Says:

Heyyy Duncan! I’m looking forward to seeing you and the guys in Woodstock, NY on Saturday. I hope all of you will be there…not quite sure what to expect at this show. Anyway, you know what would be grand? If you incorporated “Land” into the set. Now THAT would be grand. How about it?

    Laura

  23. rob00 Says:

    Duncan,

Thanks for the show in Los Angeles on the 19th of september. The show was cut short due to the rain, but we really enjoyed it while it lasted. I must say I was so saddened I did not get to hear you sing some of my favorites, like the “a home at the end of the world.” But like the gracious gentleman you are, you made it up by coming out and talking to your fans (I was the korean guy who forgot his name out of excitement when asked for the name for the autograph - thanks for the photo, too).

Thanks again, and don’t be a stranger to the west coast.

  24. FelWal68 Says:

Duncan and Crew - You guys are so amazing! I have never seen you in concert before, but my brother bought my husband and I tickets for my birthday. It was one of the most enjoyable evenings I’ve spent! Mr Gerry Leonard - you rock! What musical prowess you all possess. Thanks again. I’m looking forward to enjoying your next show here in pdx, as well as picking up your new cd.

  25. Colorbars Says:

It was great to see you too, Duncan, thank you so much for coming to visit and play for us on the West Coast. It was my first time seeing you perform (9/19), and it was an experience I really treasure, and I thank you, David Poe, and all of your wonderfully talented co-conspirators for a wonderful night! Even though we got rained out… it seemed to add something even more special. I’m very glad I got the chance to meet you (I had the Nick Drake shirt), and I hope to see you next time you’re around. Good luck, be safe, and have fun!

  26. timmer Says:

Drove 300 miles to see your show at the Aladdin. It was well worth it. It was also great to finally see David Poe. Love’s a Sinner is one of the most amazing tunes I have ever heard. Thanks for coming back to Oregon.

  27. tishpete Says:

We only drove 50 miles to dig your show at the Aladdin… Great to see you back in Oregon again. That’s an interesting, edgy vibe you’ve got going with David Poe. Maybe a straight acoustic set someday? We saw you many years ago at the Roseland, just you and Gerry doing some songs from Humming. One of our favorite memories. White Limo sounds great so far. Please don’t name the new band Poe-Dunc, ok? Safe travels and peace.

  28. noripink Says:

    hey all,

i was fortunate to see mr. sheik and mr. poe on, uhh. . .more than one occasion in CA. thanks to both of you for being so kind to us obsessive fans. but i do have to say your fans are quite polite, ‘cept for the drunk woman that left me bruised in her excitement at the casbah.

duncan, you signed your initials DSS for me. (i’m sure i’ll get replies from everyone else) what does the middle S stand for? “sherman” would be “spoonerism-ish.” fun to say it all together ;)

and, although i’m sure it’s tiring for you, glad to hear you’ll be out this way again in february. that’s still true?

    thanks again

  29. Deb Says:

It was amazing to finally see / hear you again. It was way too long since you hit the west coast. All is right in my world from the moment the first cord is played and the first note is sung. *sigh* Duncan, your voice and music moves my soul.

  30. Jessica Says:

It sure was fun getting to see you four times for the Southern California shows. I wish I could of gone to the San Francisco show but alas my funds ran low. Hope you come back out to California soon.

Hey Mr. Sheik and crew! Thank you for all your hard work! Have a safe trip to home, London and beyond. Get as much rest as you can! I’ll be seeing you in October in Columbus. I can’t wait! Thank you Duncan for bringing out Mr. Richman for the first few shows of your tour. I can’t wait to experience Mr. Poe & Ms. Bettens’ sounds!

Well, just a good nights sleep for now. I’m hoping to be up in NYC Thursday night…..Maybe I’ll run into you D. :)

  37. ingenue Says:

    Strings for White Limo… EXCITING!!!

I thought the CD was completed already. Does that mean the official album would sound different compared to the songs on the White Limo EP?

It was great to see you in San Juan Capistrano, wonderful show! thank you so much for taking the time after to show to share with some fans.

  39. noripink Says:

thanks, Leveriza, for the answer. sorry to you and others who have replied to my posts for my not responding timely. . . i’m backwards in all things tech.

i still like “duncan sherman sheik.”

    Ola,

Hope the shows in Portland went well and that my cousins got to see you =). Loved the show in San Fancisco =) and yeah Oregon is beautiful. I threaten often to quit my job in Santa Cruz, CA to go bake cookies for my Cousin’s Tea Company in Portland quite often. www.taooftea.com (couldn’t resist a plug =) hope you don’t mind.) Hopefully you got a chance to visit the chinese tea garden there? Verrinder hired a woman from China, so it would be authentic.

Enjoyed seeing you after the show, we went to dizzyland from there. Hope you are doing well.

    Elizabeth

  41. blackwuzzy Says:

Thanks so much for the invitation from my heart.
The Night was Great!!! Shame you weren’t there. I had wanted Erika to see you again…after all of these years…

    Much love,
Michele….. It was a great Success for David!!!! :) I’m very happy. :)

  42. keshet Says:

    Hey Duncan-

Really enjoyed the show at Bimbos in SF. It was probably a good thing that the house lights were so low…audience looked like it was barely breathing…was surprised how few people were groovin’ to the music, looked like they were there for a recital instead of a concert!

BTW you & your band aren’t the only ones with an “esoteric & arcane” sense of humor…..please tell Jeff I’ve always been a sucker for bassists ;)

Can’t wait for the next tour.

    Mary

PS tell David to stop being such a primadonna and to get his ass out front to sign his cd next time :p

  43. Litterbit Says:

that’s because she used to play one(bass that is).

  44. Litterbit Says:

not sure about guys named Jeff?

    LOL

  45. blackwuzzy Says:

Hey….better watch what you say about my Jeff….
As far as Mr. Poe goes….he was probably just resting up. He works very hard you know.

love, M :) *** These Guys are the very Best. We all get tired sometimes.

    BW

  46. Litterbit Says:

and when we get tired we find humor in the most outlandish thing. Even ‘Oh god, I’m vertical” can bring on a fit of giggles.

  47. keshet Says:

Whoa! Settle down, BW….I was just following up on a headline that Duncan mentioned about a Bay Area bassist.

And, Elizabeth, the “Oh god, I’m vertical” comment is not nearly as funny without the context (late at night after schlepping you & a 5 y/o around Disneyland for 2 days…..Dumbo or Die in a Day x 2….egads! I’m still tired & sore).

    m.

  48. blackwuzzy Says:

    Keshet,

    I’m always settled down….

You miss understood my words, jokingly. Thought you were referring to Mr. Allen. (Bassist)….and no mention of Mr. Poe, “the Primadonna”, in your response.

    Just joking,

BW—-Gotta watch out for My Boys!! :) :) Love.

  49. danapdx23 Says:

i am still buzzing from your portland concert… after listening for so many years, i never imagined i’d get a chance to see you live, and was more than excited when i saw your name on ticketmaster over the summer. thanks for a more than memorable experience, can’t wait to see you perform in the future! =)

  50. katetay04101 Says:

OkayWelcome back to Maine. Maggie missed you.

  51. keshet Says:

Duncan was the one who told me that David was a primadonna…..

  52. jennnn Says:

Oregon is the best. Did you get to explore much? My guess is no.. which is a crime! Multnomah Falls is breathtaking in person. The whole Columbia Gorge area is just amazing… and that’s just a small portion of the state!!

  53. blackwuzzy Says:

Really. Duncan said that. Well, he certainly would know. I saw David a week ago and shall be seeing him two more times in the next week and a half and Duncan. I’ll have to ask David that question. Thanks for the update Mary.

I guess he’s entitled to act anyway he pleases, at any given moment. :) They are the Shining Stars.

  54. katetay04101 Says:

The ‘other’ Portland loves you, too…

  55. Norm Says:

    Greetings old friend (DS)-

I thought I would check in and see what you are up to. I spotted the Oregon thread and had to add that Oregon is magnificent. Spent a couple of weeks there last October in the middle coast - Otis/Lincoln City - at Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Breathtaking ! Slide show to follow!

When you are home (NY) see if you can catch any gig of The Jealous Girlfriends - Holly Miranda is the lead vocalist from Detroit area and a friend - She did some solo incidental music for HBO’s The L Word and The Laramie Project - I just read a review and oddly enough, after, thought of you and that you may enjoy their work.

Happy to see that all is well in the world of DS. Looking forward to the new CD (as always).

    Still here -
    Norm

  56. Litterbit Says:

Norm! Wow, long time since I’ve seen any post from you….lets see what are we on, the 4th or is it 5th renovation of this site? I remember the old message site, miss getting those almost instant messages from the server LOL.

    Take care of yourself =)

    Elizabeth

  57. Norm Says:

Yup. It’s been awhile - a lot has changed/happened. Glad to see you are still around. I haven’t lost interest in DS’s projects just less time to be on the computer since closing the music store. Cheers.

  58. Litterbit Says:

Cheers to you too, remember when you announced the closing….glad yor still staying connected. I’ve had other things going on, currently I’m house hunting with out much sucess, as the ex kinda ____ things up for me, and my reprieve is up as my parents return from Scotland in about a week. Looks like they’ll have to put up with me and the little one(not so little as he’s 5 now) for a while longer.

    TTFN,
