Soundcheck
This afternoon, Duncan and David Poe were John Schaefer’s guests on WNYC’s Soundcheck. They talked about wrestling, contemporary classical music, politics and much more. They also played “Love’s A Sinner” and “White Limousine” acoustic in the studio. Here’s the showpage and here’s a direct link to the audio.
Thanks to WNYC for making the audio available.

Thanks for sharing Peter! Very cool stuff.

Freakin’ sweet. Thanks Peter!
If you are interested, I took the full-length audio and split it into the respective songs/tracks. I can send them your way (for everyone else to have) if you want. I didn’t do any fancy editing - just normalized the tracks.
Thanks again,
Josh

Peter, thanks so much…truly enjoyed their segment! Is it possible to get tired of the wrestling+singlet story…it gets a different spin everytime it’s told:-) Not that this thought escaped me before…Double D’s =Double Trouble:-) So many exciting upcoming projects…truly looking forward to it. Well, as far as the musical collaboration…wow…’tis hard to listen to White Limousine without Mr.Poe…it sure adds a certain “je ne sais quoi” ring to it…egads, I do not sound like an aficionado of either one of your music at all…BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO…keep up the excellent work! :-)
Cheers,
Leveriza

Such beautiful voices blending together so nicely. *sigh* CANNOT wait for that album to come out…summer 2006 seems like such a long way off…ah well, good things come to those who wait…

Extremely amusing. The band tune is phenomenal. Duncan’s new song sends chills down the spine. all in all, very exciting, and thanks for the free download; I’m one of the naughty people who’ve yet to fork the dough for the M/O section :(

Wowwww. Two of my most favorite Musician’s in this whole world!!! I bet that they do wrestle together….I wasn’t going to see David tonight, but I broke down at the last second…and finally bought a ticket last night. I figured how could I miss one of my most Favorite Artists in the world….atleast…where the Music is concerned…so off I am. The music sounds lovely Guy’s…..I’m glad that I found you both years & years ago. I only ask myself….why the two of you didn’t come together sooner and find eachother sooner??? being both up in NYC and all??? (Though David said your paths had crossed) It’s just great to see such great Minds coming together, and making Music. How wonderful. The Best of luck Guy’s. David see you tonight…and Duncan…see you again…next month…. all my love…..
Oh, David—maybe I could do some backup for you tonight? Oh, that’s right we must practice first. Give me a sooner heads up then David. Cool. No wrong ideas Guy’s. PS. Anything goes. (Especially when you two Guy’s are Concerned!!!! Have Fun…Anyway—What is Life for? Goodnight…and can wait to hear your new Stuff…… bw XO

And he was in a veru ggod Mood. :) I was very happy to see and speak to David again. Thanks for the great show Man….Rest up….you will need it for the rest of your Tour. See you next month.

September 11th, 2005 at 3:04 am
I’m tired from the long train ride home, and the 3 plus drinks, plus…hence the spelling errors. But we are all human above all and “Love Is Red.” Tell Sim you finally have my Pic…..and I believe one from the Artist’s Den in Philly up front too…Much love.
I definitely agree David!!!!! :) Love Is Red!!!! and how beautifully you put it! Goodnight Man…safe trip home….

Hey Peter -
Thank you for posting that for us to hear.
On a side note, it’s really heartwarming to see how much you support your brothers work. I’m sure he is very grateful to you for all the support and love you show to him and his fans. So from one of his fans, Thanks for being such a great brother to a great artist!
September 15th, 2005 at 10:29 am
Very interesting clip. =)
I’m not too familiar with Mr. Poe’s work, but now I might give him the time of day, haha!
It was also great to hear “White Limousine” as an acoustic track, although I’ll admit that I missed Mr. Leonard’s playing (because he does a great guitar-effect solo on that song!).
Also, after hearing DS’s introduction to it, I understand better the rethoric behind the line in the song ….I’m making up for lost time, for all the lost time”
Thank you for sharing!

Just listened to the interview- the songs gave me chills!! Duncan- welcome to Arizona! (Tucson tonight). I am SO looking forward to your seeing and hearing you tonight at City Limits.
Had never heard of David Poe before, but you two definitely blend well. Seems like similar song writing styles and approaches. Eagerly awaiting the new LP.

Okay a follow up to the show last night at City Limits in Tucson. Incredible!! Gotta give props to David Poe- his opening was pretty much ruined by the extremely loud overhead fans that were blowing us all the way to Kansas. And there were a few tables of people that thought concert meant “Talk and laugh as loud as you can”. David even told these guys politely to shut up. Between the two things, he was hard to hear. A real shame.
Duncan was amazing. They really rocked. I hung on every word of every song and wanted more when they left. The two new songs are great- can’t wait for the album. BTW- the EP was for sale last night as well. I am going to wait for the whole album in January.
Duncan seems like he has a very sweet & humble soul- the music definitely reflects that.
Duncan- PLEASE PLEASE come back to Tucson sometime!!

I know its the wrong thread, but I just bought tickets to the Minneapolis show…looking forward to it!
September 16th, 2005 at 8:54 pm
Welcome back to California :D
I will see you tommorow at the Casbah (the seediest dive this side of the border!) I’m taking 5 of my friends on a great adventure (an entire day on the beach followed by a nightcap of Duncan and David… can life get any better?
I can’t wait to hear the concert in such an intimate venue. As always, play whatever you wish… we’ll like it. :D
listen for the ‘dark, sophisticated, pop-unfriendly’ chant. :D
September 17th, 2005 at 3:20 pm
Oh my God… White Limo is an awesome song…. Dude, release the album! I need it now! Haha, good luck with your upcoming gigs! Rock on!
September 18th, 2005 at 6:01 am
It is 2:53 in the morning and I just walked in the door from Ducan’s first San Diego appearance. Tonight was definately one of my favorite concerts. I don’t think I could have asked for a better set list. David Poe was great as well… and the song they did together was straight money.
This said…
I feel Duncan was authentic tonight. It is getting harder and harder for me to feel this way about musicians as they try more and more to “entertain”. I think there is a place for entertainment… but when I listen to Duncan’s music there is more then that. Of course there are the little things thrown in to grab the audience… but that can still be authentic.
Of course, like every single one of Duncan’s concerts I’ve been to, there was some moron yelling out songs for to sing. I guess I just can’t escape that. It must be strange for an artist to hear people request songs… in a way it must be flattering but it also takes away from the spontaneous outpouring that makes concerts so exciting and special. *shrug* Maybe I’m int he minority on this one?
My eyes are shutting and I’m wondering why I’m writing this. I guess it is my way of saying thanks for a great experience and to encourge all you other fans to go to the concerts and help support these guys.
enough for now

September 18th, 2005 at 1:11 pm
In echoing TBJ’s sentiments about last night(the SD tour)…IMHO, ’tis the best concert of the tour thus far…or maybe I am just saying that because…hey, it has to be…it is my beloved hometown :-) Duncan, David, Doug, Jeff, and Gerry…”You Guys Rock The House” that’s for sure! Lots of thanks to an awesome show…and let me not forget to thank Phil & Katie for doing a magnificent job on the sidelines…CHEERS! Okay, I have had a very late evening and am still tired…for a more complete review with the setlist, please check @ Sheik Freik later this afternoon. Duncan, your shirt was cracking me up… :-)

This interview was great. It is fun to hear how David and Duncan?s relationship began! You can tell that they would be hilarious to watch interact with each other in their silliness.
If I were to drop by a bottle of wine for the two of them before their show on Saturday, maybe earlier in the day, how might I go about making sure it gets to them? It is my favorite and would love for them and their respective bands to enjoy it also! I am assuming security will not allow BYOB!!!
September 19th, 2005 at 6:07 pm
Duncan,
I must tell you….I have never cried as much over any of your Songs as I have over your “Fantastic Toys and Cordoroy.”
Thank you from my Heart. This has a very special meaning to me. I think you understand. Thank you, thank you so much for this Heaven you create.
bw …..peace XO

I heard white Limo live last night at the coach house, and I have to say.. Amazing! I love all the minor notes, and I can totally see it being a “hit”. I know I know.. we dont care about hits, we care about incredbiel music.. blah blah blah, but we want Duncan to make some cash to continue… By the way.. Thanks Duncan for an amazing show it was so great to see/hear you after all these years of you missing off the west coast. And to Jeff I could watch and hear you play bass for hours… and I have to thank you for the great view of yer hot little tush all night !!
September 20th, 2005 at 12:44 am
p.s. sorry for the bad use of the english language, I’ve been up for 48hrs.
September 20th, 2005 at 4:01 am
When I told you were fantastic, I truly meant it. I’m so sad that the rain decided to interrupt what was an amazing show. The night was already memorable, even before the rain and the lightning! I wouldn’t stay out in the rain for just anyone . . . come to think of it, I wouldn’t have stayed out there for any other performer! Thanks for visiting the West Coast. Come back again soon - and bring your umbrella.
September 20th, 2005 at 11:17 pm
I want to Thank you for comming to Arizona! I have wanted to see you play since I first got your first CD at age 14. (And I was living in CT then, it was worth the moved across country….lol.) The show was amazing, everything I hoped it would be and more. Not to mention it was great to hear you play your new songs, and your tribute to Radiohead. When you come around again I’ll be there for sure.
Thank You!!

Hope your West Coast Leg of the Tour is going great. Hopefully, you Guy’s are getting some ? sleep. Have a safe trip home…and see you soon.
Much peace & love,
Michele :)

Boy, I am so exhautsed myself. Anyway Duncan- I wanted to tell you personally how very powerful I feel your new EP, “White Limousine” is. I really would have to say that it is your best work to date. Certainly that is not to say that I do not like your other previous works to any lesser degree, but this new work is just so, so deep and moving. It is terribly powerful in depth, lyrics (Meaning) and musical development. I truly love it and cannot wait to get a copy of the finished project. The culmination of the entire Band on this one speaks for itself, as all of it’s predecessors do. We must give you all an extended applause. I love the direction that your Musical works have evolved into. Change is enevitable and always a good thing…so there you have it. I feel that many pieces on this EP could certainly find themselves placed in Movie scores. You never cease to amaze me with your talent in every way. I don’t know how to ever thank you. I’m just so very happy that you are in our World Duncan…and for the Light you always bring. May it always be with you. Much peace be in your Heart each and everyday…… Thank you.
Michele :)

Having seen you live, David live (alone and with 3 pc)
and the “Un-named band” live…and having heard these various combinations on several radio shows I would just like to say this:
It is very clear that less is more with you guys. The 2 voice 2 guitar version of “Loves a Sinner” on WNYC, was perhaps the most perfect version I have heard thus far. For some reason your voice gets lost when you do harmony on stage with the full ensemble. (No disrespect to the other fine musicians)
But, when you and David are stripped down to your purest elements, you shed light in the corners of souls that have not seen the light since Simon and Garfunkle made sparks in their early years. I don’t care what anybody says about Art Garfunkle….Angels weep at the sound of his voice. I swear I could hear them weeping again when you guys were on ‘Soundcheck’.
September 30th, 2005 at 1:01 am
Looooove it. Are you two really brothers? OK soul brother’s? BTW it kinda carried over in the SF show =) Look forward to the collaboration, though we got a taste of it in your live show =)

Elizabeth
