Sellersville

Well, that was fun. Why do I like the “acoustic” shows more?

See you guys in PA (I hope).

Is it musically and situationaly a more intimate, pure experience for you and your audience? That’s how I feel about it anyway.

Do you have fun at all your shows? Do you have a favorite place that you’ve played in?

Duncan, I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed the show at Sellersville. As I wrote in a previous blog yesterday - I enjoy the small venues. I hope you do come to Philly - World Cafe - I’ll be there.

You are undoubtedly the best music artist around.

Cannot wait for the next show and for Limo to be released!

By-the-way, also enjoyed Judith Owen - good choice for an opener!

    Take care and peace man!

I’m looking foreward to seeing you at the Ark in Ann Arbor.

I haven’t seen you since you left our class at Sea Pines twenty-some years ago. Back in those days your passion for music was apparent particularly when you brought your own choice of music to a P.E. class and gave an impressionable performance.

Now, twenty-some years later I see you’ve respectively transformed into a gifted and intellectual musician.

    Cheers

    See you soon.

I’d love to see an acoustic show again. i’m assuming that Chicago will be a full band show, or at least I hope. I haven’t seen you with a full band in years. I just wish you were doing another little acoustic show at The Rave Bar here in Milwaukee again. It’s been way too long since I’ve seen you play (not since the Ben Folds 2002 tour). I can’t wait for Saturday in Chicago.

    Hi Duncan.

I am so exhausted….from walking, thinking….and more thinking.
Hey, I am so happy to finally seee David getting his dues after all of these years!!! :) He and you are in “Paste” which is totally cool…with Chris….but David is also in “Harp” right now….along with my buddy on the Cover.

Can’t wait to see you Guy’s soon…..at an intimate Gig near me…. :)

Have a nice night. Peace, M. XO BW

My wife & I were also @ the Sellersville show, and it was absolutely AWESOME! We were so impressed with how pure your voice is, the passion of the music, and the greatness that you have attained as a musician. The interaction with the audience was so great (even though a few idiots kept yelling out their “requests”!), and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Just a couple of highlights from the evening: Duncan waving a G-string in the breeze as he played “Barely Breathing” (even though it’s not how it sounds, I can still hear Judith Owen say “Now that is truly scandalous!” in her Brit accent!). The covers of Oasis, The Smiths (one of my favorite groups!), and Radiohead were TREMENDOUS! “Wonderwall” sounded so much better with DS singing it……and you’re right Duncan, who is Oasis?! :)
Everything off of “White Limo” sounds awesome….we cannot wait for it to come out!

DS, you said that you may be coming back to the Philly area, to the World Cafe Live in October. PLEASE DO! We are seeing Michael Penn there 10 / 3, and to be able to see you there that month, too, would be fantastic! Thanks again for such a GREAT night on Saturday!

  9. Topaz Says:

    Hmmm…Wow…Duncan waving a G-string? I don’t know about these crazy rock stars…

Sounds like a fun night and I wish I had been there to see that. :)

And Duncan, I know you’re not really looking for an answer to your rhetorical question but…I would think that you like the acoustic shows more because they’re less like a “show”… and more like just sitting there sharing your music and playing for some friends. The scene is much more relaxed. And you can be more subtle with the music, and I think you’re a master at subtlety, which is one of the things that makes your music so special. There you have it…my take on your preference for acoustic shows.

I enjoy the acoustic shows myself …they seem special…and the show at The Point, with just you and Doug…wowsa…it was the best I’ve been to so far, and I’ve been to a few. :D

  10. Topaz Says:

P.s. I meant to say that the Tin Angel show was my favorite…there was just something very special about it to me… although the show at The Point was superb as well.

And the G-string thing, I imagine this is how many-a-rumor gets started…funny stuff.

  11. The Seeker Says:

You’re right, this is how the “things of legend” are born…..maybe I’d better clear up the tongue-in-cheek comment. The infamous “G-string” was actually attached to Duncan’s guitar, but broke pretty much as soon as the song started. Duncan improvised pretty quickly and grabbed another guitar, and all was weel with the universe.

Duncan doesn’t fit the “rock star” persona, and I’d hate to see someone get the wrong impression because of a joking remark on my part.

BTW, Hi to all. The above comment was my first post on this “blog”.

  12. Topaz Says:

I know…I was just messing around. And hi back atcha. :D

  13. KT Says:

Nice meeting you at the Sellersville Concert. I hope you’ll be able to make it next year to the XPN “All About the Music Fest”. See you in the fall at World Cafe. Thanks for the great music! Take Care KT

  14. The Seeker Says:

    Oh and one more thing~

Duncan, if you do, indeed, come back to Philly this year, please give “Dougie-Wougie” his own song. haha :)

  15. leveriza Says:

Hey, Dave(aka The Seeker)many thanks for the recap of the Sellersville show…by far the most enjoyable one to date. The “G-string” comment was rather precious…and well, it was such a misnomer(ha-ha-ha), at least that we know of :-) …picturing DS waving a “G-string” up on stage…that just seems so funny and indeed… could be truly scandalous. Mr. Sheik, please no offense… am merely having lots of laugh with Dave’s comment. Take care and enjoy your evening.

    Cheers,
    Leveriza

  16. Kates Says:

I’ll be at the Ark tomorrow night, too-for my first Duncan Sheik concert! I can’t wait! It sounds like they’re really great shows. I’ve been a fan since the ‘96 album was released, and can’t believe that I waited so long to get tickets to a concert… Well, I’m really looking forward to it!

I was at Sellersville on Saturday, amazing show. Hope you enjoyed Sellersville Duncan, and come back again soon. I was able to meet Doug and Jeff, and of course Duncan too! I was speachless because I’ve admired your music for so long.
