Who in the board also likes Harry Potter?
Have you guys watched the 2nd movie? It's WAY better than the 1st. My favourite book is the 3rd. Yours?

MEEEEEEEEE! I love Harry Potter. I saw the second movie the day it came out. My friend Casey and I got tickets and went to the last showing in town. I really enjoyed it. It was a lot better than the first one for sure. The second book is actually my favorite. In order of preference: 2,3,4,1. I like three a lot because I really like the character Syrius Black, and the DADA teacher, Lumis. I think the charactization in the books is one of my favorite parts. The characters seem so life-like to me. I heard that the fifth book is due out by the beginning of summer, well, about May, I think. I'm so excited!

I hate harry potter! Why that fluff even sells is what boggles me the most. There's a lot more interesting stuff out there to read if you ask me. Personally, I think that Daniel Radcliffe looks like a little sissy and deserves to be he-man bitch slapped (open handedly). I think the whole thing sucks big fat floppy donkey d$(k (as Eric Cartman would say) and I hope the whole thing fails....thank god Eminem and Bond are gonna take a bite out of their potential box office draw, not to mention the new Lord of the Rings coming out soon....it will not make as much money as it did last year....

peace-

Ummm...okaaay to that last post. Actually, I felt the same way about Harry Potter when it came out last year. I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about, as far as both the movie and the books were concerned. But, then I sat down and watched the first one with my son, not too long ago, and we both loved it!!! I plan on taking him to see the second one next weekend. He is four, and this is the first time a full length movie HAS EVER captured his attention. So, I think that he will like it. I hear from everyone that it is alot better than the first, so I am sure I will like it as well.

I'm more into the books, but the second movie was a lot better than the first. Daniel Radcliffe is kinda funny looking. But he looks like what I think Harry should look like. I think the kid who plays Ron is adorable. But anyway, the books are the thing for me. Do you know how many kids have gotten into reading because of the books? Daniel Radcliffe is one. I think getting kids to read is a good thing. I'll admit there are other books out there that they can read, but a lot of kids hate reading. This series has been a starting point for a lot of children. Now they are finding other books and reading more. I think that's the most important thing.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I love Harry Potter! My favorite is the 3rd book, too, RJ. C'mon - Sirius Black! Can't wait for the Order of the Phoenix!

I just took my son today to see the second one; he fell asleep about half way in (he's only four) but I loved it! I am going to hopefully get the books to read to him. I am hearing alot about the third book, especially about the two characters some of you have mentioned. I can't wait for the third movie (which, I hear, should be coming out around Summer '04). Hopefully, my son will have more of an interest at that time, and will stay awake to watch the movie in it's entirety

Kristine

A question for those who have already read the books: Does Professor Dumbledorf (I probably spelled that incorrectly) have a significant role in all of the books? With Richard Harris passing away, I wonder who will be replacing him in the next installment.

And Steph...the kid who plays Ron is absolutely adorable

I love Harry Potter. I felt the same way at first, what is all the huppla about. I saw the first movie and then decided to read the books. I read all four books in an entire weekend, I just could not put them down. Harry Potter made reading fun again for alot of children. It made reading "cool". I think that her imagination is incredible. I did think the second movie was better than the first and so far the third book is my favorite.
I even tried to get Jenn to watch Harry Potter while she was visiting.

I don't get harry potter myself. I tried to read one the books on the train going to work but I couldn't get thru the first paragraph without feelin' like I was some sort of loser. I know many adults read the books religiously but still I just couldn't do it without feeling ridiculous.

Perhaps something's wrong with me.

Oh damn, this is the *love* thread. Whoooops!

I'm glad to see my thread had gathered so many different opinions. I agree with galore4, this is the *love* thread. hehehe I would like to ask Wishful Thinker if he has already read any of the books entirely. The first movie wasn't *that* good in my opinion, and the second is just awesome as we say if you read the second book. Even if you read only the 1st book, you're not allowed to say you hate or love Harry Potter. You must read all the way to the 3rd one. And to the ones who never read or watched anything about Harry and just say: "I hate stories like that..." or "I hate magic stories..." I have some words: there's no story remotely alike Harry Potter, believe me. And I also hate magic and stuff. I'm atheist and don't like anything supernatural, but Harry Potter is too realistic to ignore. And I don't like The Lord of the Rings very much. Way too high for me, if you know what I mean. Like we say in Brazil: altas viagem esse filme!

<<Rodolfo>>

PS. Dumbledore is a really important character in all of the books, since Kristine asked.

PS.2. Have you guys noticed that, in the end of book 4, when Dumbledore is asking the teachers to call the old wizard and witches who fought against Voldemort, he mentiones Mrs. Figg? That's the old lady who used to take care of Harry during the Dursleys' vacations!

Another question for Harry Potter fans...
What is your age and gender?
They say this is a children book, well let's try to prove them wrong...

male - 16 years old

I have a few comments on the hupla. When I got into Harry Potter, it was brand new. Only the first book was out. I hate when people complain about everyone being in on the hype. Arg. (yes, I had another comment on this matter today...)
Second, Rupert Grint...if he was a few years older, I'd be all over him. hehe.
Third, I'm 19 and female for the poll question.

Poll question: 32 and female.

Dumbledore is important - kind of like the kindly grandfather that Harry never knew. It would be hard to replace Richard Harris, but I think that Patrick Stewart could do it.

altas viagem esse filme = this film goes high? I have no portuguese, but lots of french & some spanish & italian. I think we would say "this film is highbrow." Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello Bronwen

"Viagem" means trip, travel in Portuguese, but it's a slang we use when some is stoned. If you want to get high, you say "eu quero viajar", understand? And when something is way too dreamy or senseless, like The Lord of the Rings, we say it's a "viagem"... hehehe

My friends and I also created a new slang for that. You can also say that something that senseless is "voando" (flying) or call it "voćo" (something like 'flyer'). So we call it a "voadeira", that actually is how you call a kick coming from the air... but... it does sound just like something that flies...

hehe it was fun to explain a slang... never done it before :P

txs for asking
