It may be too soon, but I was wondering what everyone thinks of Daylight so far, specifically, how it rates against Duncan's other releases....

for me, it is dead last..not that I don't like it, mind you...and it may need time to grow on me and for the songs to separate(this often takes awhile).

Just a wonderin

Its not too soon. Here is how I stack the Duncan Discography (best to worse).

PM
Selftitled
Daylight
Humming

At least my list didnt put Daylight last like the unappreciative ken!

Ken, I knew there was a reason I liked you, someone besides me has good taste (yep you got it ya'll suck, hehehe)...

Ya'll know I pretty much hated "Daylight" at first, pretty much considered it the biggest waste of money I have ever took part in (and I waste a lot of money). At first I really had to keep turning it off, it just would not capture my interest. Since then I have listened to it almost non-stop, well at least on the train in the morning and evening, at home I am addicted to "The Eminem Show", which is funny if you think about it, if you asked me last year I would have agreed with the mass opinion that Eminem was a misogynistic bastard, but now I can actually hear the near brillance in what he is saying.

Oh yeah back to Daylight, as I said I have forced myself to listen to it non-stop everyday and I no longer hate it, but I do not love it either. There are a couple songs I do like (but of course I can not tell you which ones, because really I can not be bothered to learn their titles)... Once you get past the under water gurgling sound of one of the songs near the end it is a pretty good song and the other one I like, I think it might be called "Good Morning". However I have to say I am not sure I would be willing to go to the same trouble to get Duncan's next CD as I did this one, nor would I be willing to pay the same above average price I had to...

I think my list would have to be in the order they were released, however Humming could easily switch with self-titled depending on mood...

Funny....I've only listened to the first 2 tracks, but it's my absolute favorite Duncan album.

Well, Humming is easily at the top of my list...and, funnily enough, Humming Along is pretty close to the top too...tho I would put the debut second, I think. Humming, to me, is a really incredibly piece of work.

Another thought I had....does this release feel to any of you like a capitulation to those who liked his songwriting better than Steven's (was that his name...I am usually pretty good at remembering this stuff, but not now)...or possibly a stab at being more commercial (and less, say, contemplative, as Humming was)?

OK....I have now listened to the whole album a couple of times....and I've decided that you people are completely crazy. This is absolutely the best album in the history of the world! Dude! I am so absolutely OBSESSED with Half-Life! I've listened to it SO many times! Of course it has double meaning for me. Let me explain something that's touched my heart....It shows me how Jesus can use anyone to reach somebody. Dude, I can so feel the confusion of an unbeliever wanting to be free. Oh, boy, am I gonna ever get the comments on this one. hehe. But, I'm not saying that Duncan was feeling that way....but that the words of it have touched me to praise God in that way. hehe.

I think she means Shine Inside...the voice effects in the beginning are closest to "gurggly" "Are you aware, when you just stare, for hours..."

Yeah that is it, that is how the Gurggly song goes, I like that one, minus the gurggling, the lyrics are good though.

Steph, Good Morning is the only one I know the name of, oh yeah and On a High.

I tell you I have names for all the songs... The Ciggie Song, The Ring Song, The Magazine Song I really like my titles follow a really bad pattern, they all start with "The" and end with "Song"...

The ciggie song is probably Memento. just a guess. I make up titles to a lot of cds too. It's fun.

I still don't own Daylight

I'm having a fight against the Man on this one. I refuse to pay 19 pounds for it on American import at Tower. Suck it, Tower Records!

Wow and I was ticketed off over $26 CAD, which is still pricey for a CD here, as they generally run around $15.99-$17.99. Ericka, I know ya'll have HMV over there, do they carry it? Sorry I am obsessed with the fact they do not here.

This may not ba an answer to the question, but I think it is fun listening to the albums in order. That way you can hear the changes in the music and Duncan's voice. Admittedly, I am a new fan. I didn't even hear "On a High" until he played in St. Louis last week, but I went and he was good, then I bought Daylight and it was great. I figured that I had nothing to lose but money so I bought all the other cd's and they were even better. Right now they all appeal to me equally, but at different levels. Maybe that will change in a year, but I hope not.

I haven't checked HMV yet. Only Virgin and Tower. Both are expensive. But I am going shopping tomorrow and there is an HMV right around where I am headed. I will look.
