Okay, this is a post that I started to rant on in the DSS discussion regarding his chart position. Regarding the acts that are out today that are really, truly talented. I think it would be interesting to see who thinks will be "legends" in ten or twenty years time. Even of the last ten years, can you name 10 acts that you think will still be relevant in a few years? I mean, acts that will be as highly regarded as the Stones or U2 in a few years... It's sad that marketing fuels so much of what is popular, and not real talent. Even this new "indie rock" is fueled by a massive marketing ploy. So, what does everyone else think? Who are the "Legends of Rock" of tomorrow?

Here's a few, in my humble opinion ;^)

Radiohead
Coldplay
Smashing Pumpkins (if they had stayed together!!)
Foo Fighters
Bjork

That might be all that I can think of! :^(

Dave Matthews Band
Pete Yorn
Moreno Veloso

What about Beck? I think he has a good chance of becoming a future legend of rock music. Of course, he'll never reach the heights of Fugazi, but at least he'll be a legend.

oh yes! Rob surely does. He'll go down in history as being the one chord wonder.
And yes, I think Beck should get a mention. Very much in agreement.

Flaming Lips
Coldplay

Gosh - Ya know, I just can't like Beck. He's a cute guy, he's got the moves, his music is alright, but his voice! Oie! It makes me want to scratch the hairs outta my ears so they can stop intercepting his wave lengths! But, I have no doubt that he is an artist that will absolutely stand the test of time. Oh! I thought of another one - No Doubt. Is it just me, or is the world majorly lacking good female rock stars? Are Gwen & Shirley the only good ones left??

we live in a beautiful world,
Caitlin

I'm not big on Beck's voice either. When I heard Sea Change though, I was shocked. It's like night and day. I would just say buy or listen to it this Tuesday (9/24) when it comes out. I managed to get the album early and I love it and I'm not really a big Beck fan.

How come I can't be a rock legend too? After all, Rob is to Richard as Gerry is to Duncan. Plus, I at least know two chords.

Richard

P.S.: I'd support Rob being a legend because he's such a nice guy, but I'd have to be a legend too!

I would agree with many of the choices...but Foo Fighters? An average party band? Sorry, don't get it. Coldplay I think, altho I like them, will not last....christ, they are talking about breaking up already, and they've only made two full albums!

I can't think of anyone for this category at the moment...maybe I have just worked too hard today and my brain is fried...I will return!

Oh, Richard, why would you ever have to be a legend when you're never going to be "out"?

Kellye: I thought that showing you how to use the quote thingy worked meant something to you, but I guess I was wrong.

Because the trousers that Fred gave me for that performance were funky, and the trousers in themselves warrent legend status. Plus, the people in the club digged the music, too. It was legendary.

Please see the "Just Jenn" thread for clarifcation.
