I just had the pleasure of seeing Jewel in concert last nite at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix Arizona. Despite the fact that she is still suffering 2 broken ribs and a broken collarbone from a horse incident, she sang with all of her might, and she sounded absolutey INCREDIBLE. Plus she managed to play the guitar on several songs, including a couple she did with just her guitar and her singing. I was shocked that she sounded even better that she does on recordings (though I've heard her live recordings before). If you get the chance, I recommend seeing her perform. Her voice is incredible and she is a witty, sassy lady. One comment she made about how she got her injuries, she got on the horse(?) and said that her boyfriend's last words were "it's not going to buck, I guarantee". And then Jewel said how "If I were Britney Spears, I probably would have done a backflip and landed on my feet." It was an awesome show and I'm very happy I had the chance to go. So don't pass up the opportunity to see her if you can! [This message has been edited by bendietrees (edited July 24, 2002).] IP: Logged |

Awww. That's awesome! I'm glad you had such an amazing time. I got to see her on the Spirit Tour back in the summer of '00. Similar to you, she rocked like it was no ones business!! I had such a great time and her voice sounded spectacular. You're totally right, she's mighty sassy, witty, and not to mention, incredibly charming live. I rank her on stage & between song banter to the likes of the one and only Rufus Wainwright!! They both know how to work their crowds! Booyaa! Rufus is the best diva around! I love him live. Yeah, baby yeaaaaaah! OK, I just had to get that out of my system. I got to see a preview showing of the new Austin Powers flick. I can't stop saying it...baby! Maria IP: Logged |

OH, is it good???? I can not wait to see it! I'm trying to get some friends to go with me. So far, I have one person lined up to go. We still have to buy tickets though. As for Jewel and Rufus. I would like to see both in concert. I would have to say that one of the most humourous people I've seen in concert would be John Mayer. I think it would be fun to see Jude in concert too. -steph IP: Logged |

I too had the pleasure of seeing Jewel live a few months ago. The sound system at the venue didn't seem very good to me, but the show was great. Plus someone ask her to sing "kiss the flame" and that's become one of my favorite Jewel songs. ![]() IP: Logged |

I'm really happy to hear that Jewel seems to be a real crowd-pleaser with everyone :-) She just has this ridiculously beautiful voice that seems larger than life, especially coming from such a small thing She didn't sing "Kiss The Flame", but I wished she had sang "Absence Of Fear", since I often sing that song to myself and find it so beautiful and vulnerable. She did sing "Foolish Games", and the crowd was absolutely silent. As for Austin Powers, me and one of my friends plan on going tomorrow to see it...god-willing we'll get tickets..O_O; Hehe. Ah well, I haven't seen her live. I liked her first cd a lot, but Spirit was half good and half awful. Her last cd is horrendus, with the exception of 2 songs. IP: Logged |

Hi everyone I'm new. I'm a big Jewel fan so this subject caught my eye. I can't believe you think her last album This Way is horrendus, it's my favorite album of hers. Just out of curiosity wich songs did you like? I was at her concert in Chicago last month I agree with the rest of you, she is just amazing live. It's amazing what she can do with her voice, go from high pitch screaming to a low breathy voice. Her voice has matured a lot form the days of touring coffee houses with Duncan. (anyoe else here remember that?) Is anyone going to see any of her solo acoustic shows. That's the best way to see her. She's playing a bunch of them on the west coast thru september. I would love to but I live in the midwest and can't afford the plane tickets right now. :-( [This message has been edited by reggie (edited August 27, 2002).] IP: Logged |

I just got on of jewel's "jewelink" emails and it said that's she will be extending her tour and that she has been writing a lot so she may start a new album before the year is over. How exiting! IP: Logged |

I can see where people are coming from when they think Jewel is horrendous/sappy/really resembling the SNL skit on her... What's made her so special to me is that her music somehow became a means of spiritual connection for me. Whenever one of the songs come on it's like a prompt - to remember to love, to go with the flow, to have faith. I'd love to see her live again, but college is upon me :P IP: Logged |
