THAT THING YOU DO!

For real, it's my favorite movie for the pure purpose that it's so damn entertaining and enjoyable to watch. What's not to like? Plus, it perfectly showcases the pure genuis of Tom Hanks. He wrote the screen play, produced it, stared in and AND wrote some of the songs!!!

Simply splendid.

Twelve Angry Men
Wayne's World (whoa- surprise addition ay?)

No real common thread I can find that ties all of them together, but I love them all.

I'm glad to see so many people replied my question in just one day.

I agree with JustJenn, HEAVENLY CREATURES is a great film, much better than the most recent Peter Jackson's work, the commercial THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Cyndi: Alejandro Amenábar's movie that inspired Vanilla Sky is spelled ABRE LOS OJOS
And I think when you said MOMENTO you meant MEMENTO, am I right?

I completely agree with Sybil, TWELVE ANGRY MEN is a hell of a film.

Sunday's Child has good taste for filmes. ALIEN, FIGHT CLUB and PLEASANTVILLE are awesome. And I should pick:

Contact
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The End of The Affair
Gattaca
Panic Room
American Beauty
Misery
Moulin Rouge (originality in the form of a film)
A.I.
12 Monkeys
Alien
Empire of The Sun
Fight Club
Trois Couleurs: Rouge
The Silence of The Lambs
Election (Reese Witherspoon is great)

I'd like some comments

<<Rodolfo>>

PS. do you guys recommend HIGH FIDELITY?

Rodolfo, American Beauty was horrible, I hated every single stupid minute of it...

Cyndi - The Virgin Suicides, haha, that was my high school, no seriously, the building was the high school I went to, the field, where Kristen Dunst makes out with the guy, yep my dog has pooped there...

Must not forget:

-Casablanca
-How to Marry a Millionaire (it is the manual to which I live my life)
-Seven Year Itch (yep no Marilyn Monroe fan here, eh?)
-Grease
-Love Serande
-Happiness (this should be somehow both the worst and best, it was horrible, but I never laughed so hard in my life)
-Welcome to the Dollhouse
-New Waterford Girl

Okay and I am semi-serious, it cracks me up and I LOVE Dave Foley; Kids in the Hall -Brain Candy

Rodolfo, I really recommend High Fidelity! I've watched it so many times and still can't get enough of it! I think it's one of those rare cases where the movie is just as good as the book!

mmm....movies...mmm...well, I'm not going to count movies I have seen in the last year, so here goes:

I enjoy older movies, AMC and TCM are two of my favorite channels. Cary Grant movies are a category by themselves for me. I just love him.

Arsenic and Old Lace
Casablanca (oh yeah. good movie, and I love Boggie as well as Cary)
The Shawshank Redemption (Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins...how could it be bad? )
Music From Another Room (excellent, excellent, excellent. Don't understand the title, but I really enjoyed the movie)
The Princess Bride (hilarious, plus, you get to see Cary Elwes. )
There are a lot of movies I like, but these top my list.

Crystal, Christian Bale perfomance in EMPIRE OF THE SUN is stunning, you get goosebumps watching him act.

JustJenn, AMERICAN BEAUTY is a movie for a director fan. I think Sam Mendes is a genious for catching that story so delicately. And it's those movies like IN THE BEDROOM: either you hate it or love it. In my case, I hate IN THE BEDROOM.

MsDMeanor and Ericka. I agree with you about MAGNOLIA, it's a wonderful film, and it's rare to find people who really like it.

FunkyFred, CROUCHING TIGER is indeed an antologic film, but I totally disagree about THE LORD OF THE RINGS: average, commercial and boring movie.

But don't you guys watch anything else but American movies? What about AMÉLIE? And what about the Colour Trilogy: "BLUE", "WHITE" and "RED"? RED is fantastic, you gotta watch it. And has anyone seen REQUIEM FOR A DREAM?

Have you ever noticed that, in almost every Jude Law's film, the character he most interacts with is always a man/boy? Let's see:

WILDE where he seduces the title-man

THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY where he spends 90% of the film laughing, arguing or flirting with Matt Damon

A.I. where he almost only speaks with Haley Joel Osment

GATTACA where he goes on and on discussing things or yelling with Ethan Hawke most of the time

ENEMY AT THE GATES where he fights, laughs, loves and argues next to Joseph Fiennes. Of Course there's that stupid love story, but that's only for better selling of the film

MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL where he is a call-boy involved with a famous and rich man

Then there's EXISTENZ, but I didn't watch this one because it has never come to Brazil. Someone said there is one called MUSIC FROM ANOTHER ROOM with Jude Law. Which one is this? I've never heard about it. Could someone tell anything about this, so I can find out the name in Portuguese?

thanks anyway
<<Rodolfo>>

and there's more:

Psycho (1998)
The Purple Color
The Son's Room
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Gosford Park
Blade Runner

Silvia,

Rodolfo,
Eu sou meio suspeita pra falar do Alta Fidelidade. Eu li o livro e adorei. Fico feliz q vc gostou!

No final tocaram Barely Breathing e gostei. Procurei o cd mas nao achei, ai desencanei. Ano passado fui p os eua, lembrei e comprei o cd. E voce?

Here are some of my favorites that I am just thinking of off the top of my head. Trust me, there are many more that I'm forgetting at the moment.

Rushmore
American Beauty
Gladiator (even though I don't like Russell Crowe)
Urbania
The Royal Tennenbaums
Bounce (what do you expect? It has Ben in it)
Sugar & Spice
Pearl Harbor (I know, I know...I think I'm the only one on this earth who liked it)
Glory
54
Go

That's all I can think of now, I'll add on later.

duncanfan, Gladiator is a terrible movie, horrible, horrible. I don't like Russel Crowe either, but he's a GREAT actor, that we can't deny. I have no comments about Pearl Harbor, that's not cinema, that's a really long videoclip with a story in it.

more movies:
AS GOOD AS IT GETS
HUSH
GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Silvia, eu descobri o Duncan vendo o filme Um Caso a Três. Eu ouvi That Says It All e adorei.

Sorry about that, but I really liked Gladiator despite Russell Crowe. And trust me, you are not the only one who told me that Pearl Harbor was the worst movie in history, but I loved it.
I must agree with most of your choices though, but I thought Hush was horrible!
