Okay so it is on video, but I watched this movie tonight, and it was okay, I mean a little out there, but could someone explain to me for what GD reason the put English subtitles in a movie in which the dialogue is in English…Okay granted they had Scottish accents, but please, if you did not have the mental capacity to understand what they were saying you surely would not have got the movie…And even if you just read the sub-titles you would miss a lot of the humour since the subtitles were in North American English, and I mean they totally skipped entire things they were saying…I would like to think this was done for the benefit of Americans, and not Canadians...(Hahaha) MsDMeanor, if you are reading this…I read something that made it sound like you might be from or living in England, you are not a Corrie fan by any chance? (I am a sneaky bum and I enjoy knowing what is going to happen, we are three months behind) IP: Logged |

Aaacckkk!!! Corrie is for the northerners in this country. Down here in the SE UK we watch Eastenders, so sorry, can't give you the info there ![]() Re the subtitled movies....how annoying is that?!! I heard that Lock, Stock also was subtitled, and that MUST have been lame since a lot of it is cockney, and it wouldn't make sense anyway! I was born and raised in MB Jenn, but have lived over here for nearly 7 yrs...wait a sec....just used my search engine... The Latest Corrie news: Bet is back, all in her splendour of leopard print and fags galore, hanging out in Audrey's living room. Bet and Rita have a nice heart to heart, awwww but the "friendly" mood is short-lived before Rita suspects Bet's real reason for return involves a bloke and some debt. Bet later confesses to Ken in the Rovers that she is a witness in a upcoming court case against an ex who owes her money - and if she loses, she is up shit creek without a paddle. Bet runs into Mike Baldwin, giving him a thump on the jaw, calling him a cocker and of course, arranges to meet him for drinks! IP: Logged |

Oh wow thank you. we do not get the Eastenders, oh wait that is the one on after Corrie I think, It has not been on in weeks, because of the World Cup. I could not get into it. I was raised on Coronation Street, my granparents watched it, so I have since I was like 4. Seriously I had to purchase a VCR just so I could tape it when I was working, now I just make sure I get up by 3 to watch it...You do not know how much you made my day saying Bet came back (my mom and I are fans)...However, I think it is funny because there are characters you mentioned that I have no clue who they are, must be new... I did not see Lock Stock, I did see Snatch and Brad Pitt's lines were sub-titled, but it was just a sucky movie altogether. Oh there was also that other movie, about the boy, he danced ballet, that was also sub-titled when his father spoke... I can not remember if East is East was, I do not think so, except perhaps the Indian parts...(For anyone who has not seen East is East, you must!!!) You said you were raised in MB, I am sorry but I have no clue where that is, unless it is Manitoba...If you did not know, I am Canadian and have been trying to deprogram myself from the American garbage shoved down our throats. That would be Billy Elliot, Jenn. And I have the video, where it is not subtitled at all. So maybe it is for the benefit of Canadians. ![]() -steph IP: Logged |

C'or blimey guv'na! cool...Glad I cheered you with Bet's baaaacckkk! I was raised with hearing Corrie's music in the background too, and yes Manitoba was where I was born and raised I can't believe that they destroyed Snatch with subtitles, oh eek! Strange movie that was tho...Brad Pitt played what is known over here as a "do as you likey", meaning jikey...meaning gyspy. There was lots of cockney in that one so really, it would be lame, lame, lame otherwise. I am so used to it now, but when I first moved over here, I would stare blankly at the telly while everyone else laughed away! OBTW, I totally loved East is East too, sooo funny if not a bit awwwww. Good insight to how some religions are, that is for sure. But I thought Billy Elliot was far too hyped up and really, it wasn't that great. IP: Logged |

Billy Elliot was a great movie and one of the only English movies I could watch without Subbies. Trainspotting I had to watch with Titles. Excuse me for being a dumb american that i can't understand EWAN when he is climbing out of a goddamn toilet!! Lock Stock was pretty good and watching it Sub free. Though I cant remember what the movie was about. I remember laughing... Snatch I tried to watch but fell asleep 30 min in. With no subtitles thank u very much. Am I getting the US its credit back for being open minded and intelligent? [This message has been edited by Springroz (edited June 23, 2002).] IP: Logged |
