Hey, has anyone seen the movie yet? I took my 3 boys last night, and they really liked it. It was a little cheesy, but Tobey was wonderful as usual!

Fantabulous! I loved it so much and I'm not one for comics. I only saw it for Tobey and Kirsten (she became cool in my book when I read that she's a huge Jeff Buckley fan.)

Tina's right-- Tobey was amazing, and might I add, damn sexy. In my eyes, no one else could've played it as well as him. I think the critics are right, it's the best comic adaptation since Superman.

thanks for the review girls. I do plan to see it soon. I happen to have a junior high type crush on Tobey Maguire (he stole my heart in Cider House Rules).

James Franco! Yum He's also in Duces Wild that opened this weekend. Did anyone see that? The rating were rather bleak but I think I'm gonna try to catch it just for him. Did you get to see him in the TNT movie, James Dean? Sooooooo good. He's a brillant actor. And a Golden Globe winner!

To go with my last post in the Zach thread, James Franco was in my favorite show back in '00: FREAKS AND GEEKS! I don't get it guys, why do they cancel the BEST shows. More specifically, MY favorite ones ? I can't win.

Woe is me. haha. Oh, the drama.

Ok, that's it, the monet Spidey is "sweet", he must be truly dead... they have Tim Burton, why do they ask that Raimi jerk? As same as Batman Spider-Man is supposed to be a dark hero, some kind of broken man with real problems. Now he's Tobey Maguire. Liked him in "Pleasentville" and Kirsten Dunst in that cheerleader movie... but damn, why the heck do they act in a this movie? They're teenstars... they could play their roles in the new "Superman" movie. Sorry, but I like the comic books and after watching the trailer I neraly cried...

I plan to soon. my friends are telling me it's good though and the best comic to movie adaption they've ever seen from the US. And others agree, because in this opening weekend it was the #1 movie seen in the US. It's also the best opening weeked for any movie in the US, making over $115 million, beating down the opening weekend for movies like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. In your face, Harry Potter! Marvel rules, all thanks to guys like Stan Lee!

My son (age kindergarten) saw it yesterday with his Dad - and his best friend and his Dad. My hubby said when a "kissing scene" was rolling, my kid and his friend started objecting (quite loudly)
"oooooh - soooo GROSS!!" - from what I understand they had the whole theatre in stitches. My son had already heard there would be some smooching - so they were more than ready to throw a gargantuan fit when they arrived.

hehe. Yeah, I was saying gross too. I went Saturday to the drive in (Also saw Crossroads.....bad....very bad, but it has two cute guys in it. The guy who plays Warren on "ED" and the guy who plays the guy who hooks up with Spears in the movie. He was hot.) Anyway....I enjoyed Spiderman. I could definantly make an exception to my short rule for Tobey.

Shari,
It must be something about boys...all 3 of mine hid their eyes when the kissing started.

So, yes, last saturday finally my girlfriend took me to the cinema... and guess what... ("Tobey Maguire is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sweet")... so I accidently saw "Spider-Man"... and I liked that hell of a show, definitely!

The moment triple J appears, the whole movie turns. I got all my beloved characters, my favourite Spidey quotes and with William Dafoe and (subjective surprisingly) Tobey Maguire as the perfect Peter Parker. Ok, so it's not a teen movie, I have to admit that it's really cool!

Jenn. I was forced to go. It was a double feature, my ride wanted to stay and see the awful movie. It was indeed horrible. I advice all never to watch it.

I got all excited seeing this thread cuz the release of Spidy is due this 14th....I am a huge fan of marvel since a kid but after reading some reviews...eek! Dare I risk the fond memories? It could be a repeat of the Star Wars farce/ripoff/sellout for me.

At any rate, y'all were talking bout it a month ago now...goes to show just how far spaced the US and UK "releases" truly are. The same goes for music
Oh ya, excitement today...Paul McCartny and Heather Mills are getting married. Whoopididooo

well, my two cents on Spiderman...

I liked it a lot...I have been reading comics since I was a kid (even got a 'no-prize' as a teenager, for all you who remember what that was...a no-prize, that is, not a teenager), and this movie got it right.

And, sunday, I have never thought of Spiderman as a dark hero...especially compared to characters like Batman, Spawn, etc...he is much lighter...his banter sort of epitomizes that.

They got his body language right, I think they even tried to duplicate actual panels. I have always liked Sam Raimi, dunno why someone railed against him. He has always produced good films, from the wacky early Evil Dead stuff to the more recent serious stuff like that Bill Paxton/Billy Bob Thornton thing I always forget the title of. He has invested a lot of love and attention to detail in Spiderman and it really pays off. There are a few moments where the effects don't look as convincing as they should (like when he surprises the hoods attacking mary jane...his bouncing around doesn't hold any weight...I mean, physical weight of his body), but that is a small complaint.

Freaks and Geeks rule! Man, I love that show...you know the main female character is Velma in the Scooby Doo movie, right?

SPIDERMAN...not for Kids! The big upset over here is that it is listed as a 12 rating, and apparently it is too violent for 12! Oooh, I think I will have to see it now.

Embarrassingly, I used to read digest after digest of Archie and his gang. In fact, I think Jughead was my first real love. Like those hard to get men I guess, but laughed my butt off during K.Smith's interpretation in Chasing Amy of how Jughead is a fag and Archie is his "bitch". Hee hee hee. It's all making sense now....MsD is really a gay man trapped in female form.

I have matured in the comic sense (NOT) and used to read all the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, and now Bluntman and Chronic, just cuz the rudeness and bigotry really makes me laugh. SNOOCH! The incredible hulk was cool tho', it's not easy being green....
