Okay guys Jennifer is at it again, the movie reveiwer has reappeared... I have to say I saw two wonderful fabulas brilliantly funny movies this week...The first Men with Brooms, a very funny, laugh out loud story of curling. Perhaps you must understand Canada to get some of the references, but it is still a hoot (do people even say hoot? I am bringing back the word hoot). The second movie, Kissing Jessica Stein (the title for this thread), again very funny, perhaps for those uncomfortable with homosexuality, not a great choice. All in all, and this might be a shocker, two movies in one week and I would seriously recommend seeing both...Hey do not think I went soft, also saw Queen of the Damned, if you must see it, rent it. Thanks for the movie recommendations Jenn. I think Kissing Jessica Stein looks so good, but you know I won't see it until it comes out on DVD!!! ![]() As for Men with Brooms...didn't even want to see that, but since you liked it I may give it a chance

Tina, I am not a huge curling fan either. But living here gives you a pretty good op to 'get' the jokes. Especially the obvious product placements (Swiss Chalet), and the million Tim's coffee cups all over the place. The entire movie is full of stereotypical Canadian references, especially in regards to small town life in Canada. And there is this whole astronaut thing that is just too funny, because you know Canada is known for our astronauts... The curling is just really a back drop to cute story, mind you do not think that is it does not play a big part, without the curling you would have a group of guys standing around ice drinking...Okay so also another Canadian past time, but... I have to also say if I had the money I would be buying the soundtrack, Paul Gross, who wrote, directed and stared, also sang on the soundtrack, which is 100% CanCon. IP: Logged |

I have heard that Kissing Jessica etc movie was good....you know, I was really surprised at how good another movie I just rented was....Donnie Darko...man, it was great. If you like your horror movies, different..not the same old slash em up, teach those kids for having sex, bad guys who never die, etc, films...get this. It is very strange, but makes sense by the end...and is both creepy and affecting..and Jake Gyllenhal (spelt something like that anyway) is great...really cool. IP: Logged |
