Hi! Over on the General Forum, I read a post about "Surf's Up," a song Duncan has covered. The song came from the Beach Boys lost "SMiLE" album, which was recorded from 1966-67. It is considered to be one of the greatest lost albums in music history. So, I figured that I would start a thread here that specifically talked about "SMiLE," or anything "SMiLE" related. Although I haven't started a lot of threads that have garnered a lot of attention, I really hope this thread does well. "SMiLE" and "SMiLE"-era songs are available through bootlegs as well as MP.3s. While most songs are either incomplete or in fragment form, they are truly great songs, demonstrating Brian Wilson's gift for making music. These songs/fragments are, to me, amazing. Hopefully, this thread will spark great discussion on a great lost album (35 years later), while also turning people on to some new music. Peace, Richard IP: Logged |

From those who have heard some of the tapes, the "SMiLE" material is unbelievable, especially the song "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow." That song was supposed to be the "Fire" portion of the infamous "The Elements" suite. If you think Duncan and Simon Hale can produce some haunting string music, the strings on "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow" are down right scary. I would love to listen to Duncan's cover of that song! I always wondered about that song. I'm also wondering about "lover from hell" is that cover as well? IP: Logged |
