So, kicked out of my very own topic... I'LL HAVE MY REVENGE!!! ![]() So this is a topic especially for discusing sports... you could say a "NON-JENN" topic. Well, my life revolves around the Alabama Crimson Tide college football team. The richest tradition in all of college football!!!! Woohoo! Did I ever mention that I have a collection of about 40 Alabama shirts, two or three Alabama jackets and coats, earrings, elephants, ceramic and stuffed EVERYWHERE, and my room is an Alabama room. Gray walls, crimson carpet, Alabama comforter and curtains, paintings, pictures, posters, anything Alabama. I also have some Alabama socks. About 20-25 Alabama shakers. Well, I'll stop there for now, but feel free to come look at my collection of Alabama football stuff. ![]() Oh, sorry Jenn. But, sports are great. Well, at the college level. And, baseball. But, we all love you anyway. Honest. Kellye IP: Logged |

The point is: We don't have college sports over here in Germany... ![]() But we've got one single race of the Indy series... but I have to confess that I'm not really into it. Favourite sports: Of course soccer and NBA Basketball, sometimes Ski Jumping, Rugby or the NFL Europe. Right now I'm so damn excited that the Mavs got their 10th victory in a row, defeating the Bulls last night (hell, Jordan should have come back there...). Hey, didn't read the recap so far, can somebody tell me if Michael Finley played? Nash for 24 and Nowitzki for 18, that's what I know. Yeah, my number two: Jordan on fire! Who to stop this man? I mean, when you're 38 years, you're not old, but in sports you're a senior. And, pardon me, this man kicks ass! 51 points and 45 points in two games, against the Nets with 22 points in a row, I mean, Richard, you're right, this is just too impressive. Possible contents: What are the Lakers without Shaq? Best players West/East? Our personal All Stars? So we'll see what sports this topic my bring! IP: Logged |

Alex: You probably already know this, but according to the box score I read in the paper this evening, Michael Finley didn't play last night. According to NBA.com, he hasn't played since December 27th's game against the Bulls, another Mavericks' victory. As for Michael Jordan, things are going to be interesting on Friday night, when the Bulls come to the MCI Center in Washington. With the way MJ has been playing, combined with the attention this game is getting (here at least), the makings of another big game are already in place. Things will be even more interesting when the Wizards head to Chicago to play on January 19th. Right now, I'm still getting over Maryland's pounding in the Orange Bowl last night. I went out last night with a friend of mine, and he said to me, "I thought you would be home to watch the game." I told him that I couldn't stand watching Florida rip apart Maryland. I wanted to be wrong so much, but I wasn't. Even though I didn't see the game, it still hurts, especially when I'm reading about it in the papers. Florida had 659 yards total offense (456 passing and 203 running). It was embarrassing. Now, I'm getting ready for the Wizards-Bulls game on Friday night, and then the Redskins-Cardinals game on Sunday. The Redskins, after starting the year 0-5, have a chance to finish at .500. I'm anxiously awaiting this game! And if anyone talks about an ageless wonder, then look no further than the Redskins' own Darrell Green. At 41 years of age (42 in February), Green is in his 19th NFL season. He was going to retire at the end of the year, but after fans kept asking him to return, he decided to un-retire. During training camp this past summer, Green was clocked at 4.25 seconds in the 40, which is considered world class speed. He is best remembered for chasing down Tony Dorsette in a 1983 Redskins-Cowboys Monday night game and holding Randy Moss without a touchdown in a 1998 Redskins-Vikings game. This man is definitely an ageless wonder. As Michael Wilbon, a Washington area sportswriter, said (and I'll paraphrase), Darrell Green has out run just about everything, still including father time. Okay, I guess you all know who my favorite NFL player is! Then after football, spring training will be soon approaching, although my beloved Orioles are faced with what appears to be another long season. Best, Richard IP: Logged |

I just wanted to come on and say how proud I am of Oregon's Ducks. I live in California now, but I actually left my heart in Portland, not San Francisco. ![]() If Miami had LOST to Nebraska today, the Ducks (yes, the name is emabarrassing, but it rains so much there that it's very appropriate) then Oregon would have tied for first in the National Championship! They kicked Colorado into oblivion yesterday to earn that chance. But Miami WON and I don't know where the Ducks will end up in the standings - but I'm just mighty proud of 'em. They played their hearts out this season, coming back time after time in fourth quarters to win games - but in the end the title goes to Miami. ![]() We'll get it next year!!! Shari ![]() A "non-Jenn" topic? I'm always "pro-Jenn" Not to say that you are "anti-Jenn" - it's just late and it's obviously time for me to say night-night now.Shari IP: Logged |

I'm definitely "pro-jenn", too, but Jenn is "anti-sports" so this is a "non-Jenn"-topic. ![]() So the Mavs were to dumb to win, lost against the Knicks (!),ok, so Nowitzki and Nash played well, but Finley didn't seem to be all right so far, maybe this game was too early for him. When we're talking about "old" men in sports, we gota talk about "Lothar Matthäus". He's a famous German soccer player and now he's retired, but he played until he was 39... IP: Logged |

ah....sports...one of my favorite topics. My favorite sports include baseball, football, hockey and sometimes I will watch soccer, but it isn't on t.v. a lot. I go to (college)basketball games,, can't really stand to watch them on t.v. As for college football, I got fairly into it as I'm now required to attend all home games and a few away games. Fun stuff. Baseball is my first love and I can hardly wait until Spring Training! I so badly want to go to Arizona over my break and watch the Rockies and White Sox!! First I need to find the money and also someone to take me if I can't get a cheap flight. Ah....that would be a near heavenly trip. I also long to see the Yanks at Coors Field this summer! ooo how much fun it would be to have my boys whip them!!! -Stephanie Oh yeah and I would like to say I was impressed with the Oregon Ducks, they were good. I'm so glad the Corns got lost in the Hurricanes though!! I hate Nebraska! ![]() IP: Logged |

Please, could someone explain Baseball to me??? ![]() Out town got an own club, the "Alligators" and the Eruopean Chamionchips been here last year, but I really don't have a clue... No soccer on TV? I guess I'd die in the States... So I played American Football for a short while with our former first league team "Solingen Hurricanes", but thats long ago... Hey, des anybody know that indian sport "La Crosse"? Oh, and watch out for the German Ski Jumpers in Salt Lake City this year... their really good this season!!! La Crosse, an Indian sport? Do you perhaps mean Native American? Because believe it or not I know this one, it is actually the official sport of Canada, and ya'll thought it was hockey eh? The Six Tribes of Iroqouis from Southern Ontario and up state New York used to play a game called Baggataway, French explorers adapted the game and named it LaCrosse. Mr. Beers (sorry I can not recall his first name) he was from Montreal, later changed the rules and it was his changes that were adapted by the Canada's LaCrosse Association...Okay now I have shared my utter and complete geekitude you may all laugh... FYI in college I took a class in Canadian Heros and we focused a great deal on sports figures... IP: Logged |

Yip, Jenn, I wanted to say "Native American" (here in Germany they're called "Indianer" while Indians are called "Inder"... quite confusing...). So, I thought you wanted to avoid this topic, ah? But very interesting what you told us about La Crosse... all facts I didn't know so far (to be honest: I only know this game because of the movie "American Pie"... Jenn, I'm not laughing about ya, hey, so you're Canadian, there was nothing you could do.. Just kidding, seriously! What's so ridiculous about learning somehting about people like Mr Beers in school? In Germany we do this all the time and we only know Alexander The Great because he invented the Polo game, ok, so with Warhammers and enemy skulls, but he did... No, really, ok, slap me for being so unfair... Jenn, I swear, I can't find anything ridiculous about it. IP: Logged |

oh...my...dear...lord...Jenn...I want to take a class that focuses on historical sports figures!!! that would be one of my dream classes indeed. And I knew you couldn't stay away from this topic. You need to know all, right? just like me.Alex, as for baseball....what do you want me to explain? Details of history or teams or maybe how you play the game? Mmm...I could probably go on for hours. Believe it or not, I wrote a 10 and a half page (single space) paper on just the different positions in baseball. And it was for no particular reason! IP: Logged |

Actually I did not want to take this class at all, I wanted to take this class called Mental Self Defense (I had the prof for genetics and loved him) but was forced to take this other boring history class, the prof and I used to fight in the middle of class I hated her so much. Especially because she would give incorrect details and not believe me even if I could prove her wrong with actualy proof (like I made up books puclished by others) I can also tell you about the history of basketball and a bunch of boring stuff. Alex, in Canada Indians are people from India, as for what you refered to as Indians as I said we call them either Natives or Native Americians. Okay now I am stepping out, unless someone would like to talk about Bourne and Krattz... IP: Logged |

Who are Bourne and Krattz... ? ![]() Steph, the thing I don't understand about Baseball is simply anything... I don't know anything about innings, how the count the points... you see... And no, Herman Maier (an Austrian relative of our Ken?!?), the "Herminator" won't compete this time. He had an accident last autumn and nearly lost his leg, so he won't be able to do some skiing. But yip, we got some hot ski jumpers... which are actually quite succesful... IP: Logged |

Oh, Steph, I'm looking forward to "sweetsnail's guide to exotic sports"... ![]() Rich, you're the man, you know that? Thanks a lot! (if you ask me, our Rich-man is a dangerous opposite-candidate for Mr. Meyer jr.) Yip, Fred, Thomas Hässler now is 36 and plays with Davor Suker (!) at TSV 1860 München (Munich). Together with Ulf Kirsten (who will be 37 when his contract ends), both are the palying' legends of German football... and Andy Brehme now is the coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern, while Rudi Völler is the Coach of the German national team. Hey, so John Carew left Spain? IP: Logged |

Alex: It seems like Dirk Nowitzki saved the day last night, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter which included a three point play to give Dallas a 95-94 victory over Denver. That ought to help him receive some All-Star ballots. But with any election, go out and vote or, as they would say in late 19th/early 20th century America, "vote early and often!" Welllllll, I have been playing tennis most of my life, so watching pro tennis is pretty fun for me. I also looooove to play good volleyball, tho I haven't in awhile. I have been getting back to racquetball alot lately, too, really good workout. As for watching, other than tennis and volleyball, I will watch pro football if both teams are pretty offensive-minded, or if it's the Chargers (tho they do suck lately)...but until the playoffs, basketball doesn't interest me too much. Hockey..the sport of thugs, as far as I can tell (sorry, Jenn), Baseball...really boring for me, sorry....uh, was it sunday? Some of my favorite sports moments have been things like watching Borg/McEnroe or Sampras/Rafter, stuff like that. I am a dweeb. IP: Logged |

Ken: I think the Chargers will be alright in the long-run. After all, LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 1,236 yards in his first season, while Drew Bees has the tools to be a good NFL quarterback. The Chargers perhaps need some help at wide receiver or perhaps the offensive line. Of course, the team has a very strong defense. Plus, a new coach will probably do the team good. As for tennis, that's a sport I would rather play than watch on television. I love playing the game, but just find watching it a bit teidious at times. However, I love it when the players get into loud arguments with judges. It livens it up a bit, but that's just me. Peace, Richard IP: Logged |

Ken why sorry Jenn about hockey? I do not like hockey, the conversation that we are just agreeing to disagree about had nothing to do with me liking hockey, and just because I am Canadian does not mean I preprogrammed to enjoy hockey. The only sports I do not mind watching are platform diving, ice skating, ice dancing, dancing and bull riding; bull riding probably being my favorite out of all of them. Even as a kid I hated team sports, all the yelling and performance anxiety and stuff. IP: Logged |

Alex, yeah Carew left Valencia, but there was a sudden turn in the negociations with Fulham, so I guess he's going back to Spain. But Valencia is in financial difficulties so they need to sell players, and there are lots of other clubs that are interested in him, so I recon he won't stay very long in Spain. I think there's a Norwegian guy playing for 1860 München. Erik Mykland. Sound familiar? Tennis is a great sport to watch and play, I think. However, I play golf a lot, so not much time for playing other sports. Although I love playing volleyball and basketball. Racketball is fun too. Ken, we do agree on a lot of things. That's a bit worrying IP: Logged |

Ken, at least you aren't a Raider's fan! As for baseball, I think it is an aquired taste, but from what I've noticed, intelligent people are the ones who really are into it. There are so many things going on at once, it's like a dance. Personally, I grew up with it, and the past few years I've just jumped headlong into it. I just think it is great. Maybe part of it is that it is pretty laid back, except for the mental aspect of it.As for hockey, the reason I like it is because it is hard hitting and exciting. Just like you said about a football game with offense, hockey is that way. The object is to score more goals than the other team, and while a scoreless game (just like a shutout in baseball) is impressive and fun to watch, the more blood and hard hits and desperation, the more exciting it is. It's basically soccer on ice skates with sticks. you can't tell i like sports, can you? I do play tennis, but I can't stand to watch it on t.v., unless there is a fight. Do we notice a trend in the sports I like? In baseball, there are arguements with umps, sometimes bench clearing brawls. In hockey, fights galore and hard hits (from the puck, sticks and boards). Football, hard hitting, fights. Yes, I do also like action movies. ![]() -stephanie IP: Logged |

So, after only embarrassing 4 points against the Magic, Nowitzki came back against Atlanta last night: 40 points, career high, 11 rebounds. Steve Nash for 29 points and 10 assists, Tim Hardaway for 18 points, all of them via 3-pointers. And even though the 46 points of Hawks' Terry, they lost. Even more impressing: 56 points of Kobe Bryant and 58 points of Iverson... man, their awesome! Who needs Jordan, anyway?!? ![]() IP: Logged |
