I have a simple question: Would you play a show in Tampa, Florida? If necessary, I can find a venue for you to play- I have a lot of friends in the local scene who could help me find a club. I really enjoy your music and would love to hear you live. Thanks- Holly

Duncan,
I'm so pleased to see that you actually even TRY to read all of these posts. You are really blurring the line between your status and ours. It is very nice to be able to actually contact someone who helps you so much. I know that personally 'Duncan Sheik' and 'Humming' have got me through many times where all I could so is cry and sing with you. Or times when I could just sigh in awe and smile. Someone who I could relate in many ways. Thanks alot....I honestly wish you the best in love and family. You seem to honestly feel what you sing. Don't ever let yourself be untrue to who you truly are. We adore you this way. ~Min
(looking forward to your new work!)

Duncan,
Hi! I'm a huge fan of yours and i'm new to this site. I was just wondering if I'll actually get the chance to talk with you on this site. I'm really excited, because I consider you a really great musician, and if I ever get the chance to become a musician myself, I would want my music to sound mellow and beautiful the way your music does. I can't wait to see you in concert for the first time! I don't know when that will be, but when you come to Texas sometime, I'm going to make sure to buy tickets!!! Also, I was wondering what your middle name was, too. And, are you married? Not that I'm a nosy person, but you seem like such a wonderful and talented guy that surely you would have lots of women beating your door down or something...lol. No, really, I'm not trying to be nosy. Don't answer if you'd rather not. Well, that's all for now. I love all of your albums! I listen to them at night sometimes to go to sleep or just in the car, etc. Your lyrics - how do you do it? You incorporate so many feelings and emotions through the lyrics and your voice. I admire how you haven't fallen into that big black hole that other artists have fall into so often. You know, profanity, doing/singing/saying what's popular just because it's popular. Another thing is that you are yourself and not just another star trying to be someone they're not. Does any of that make sense? lol. Anyway, I don't want to bore you with what you probably hear all the time from tons of fans, so, thanks alot for bringing your music to the public and for being who you are.
*R.Cook*

Hi Duncan,

I started playing guitar last year..wow its pretty addicting. Wish I would have started at age 2 instead of 22. Anyways, I need some advice. I am trying to write songs and it is much more challenging than i expected. I was thinking, "just write thoughts on paper then add nice sounding notes"...kinda like a nice ol' formula. But it just ends up sounding..corny..instead of introspective. I got so frustrated one time that i was tempted to throw my guitar across the room (I didn't). Any tips?

Temporarily artistically challenged,
Lour

Froggy Bottom Guitars

Hey Duncan...

i recently picked up a model K froggy and i'm *hopefully* getting ready to order another one. i'm curious as to which of their guitars are your favorite and which ones you used on the Phantom Moon record. i'm really into the tones on that record so i thought i'd ask... thanks

Hi Duncan,
I have a very strange question to ask you. I would like to know if you will be my prom date this May? I will be 18 then. I truly believe I am your biggest fan. You are perfect in every way. I know you will say 'no', but I thought it was worth a try. Your music is amazing, and when I listen to it, I feel as if I am understood. I saw your concert in CT and I was also wondering if you will ever be back to CT? And if you ever plan to publish a book of poetry? My email adress is Dawsonsb22@aol.com, please write to me if you ever get the chance. I understand that you probably won't have the time with your busy life. You are the best artist in the world out of anything and anyone. My favorite song is "November", and I also love the secret song on you CD "humming". Keep writing and creating music! I'm sure your an inspiration to millions.
Love,
Jessica

Hi, Duncan. My first reaction to this is a giggle... this doesn't seem to be cutting down on your reading material, maybe even increasing it!

Thank you so much for the joy you've brought me (and so many others)! Your words and sounds literally got me through a really rough time a couple of years ago, and I am so grateful!

My question (and it may be that I'm showing that I don't spend much time surfing for info on you - shameful ) is who were your biggest musical influences growing up, and has that list changed drastically over the years?

I personally wanted to thank you for coming to the College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ on January 25th. In addition, thank you for playing my requested "wishful thinking" in the encore. You are a spectacular performer and I'm looking forward to finding you at another one of your shows again.

Dunc,

Just two quick questions. First of all do you recommend any readings for the interested in buddhism. I am from a fairly rural area, although in a city setting, and there doesn't seem to be many resources for the curious.

Secondly...if you happen to end up in Berlin during your European trips, and you like tea...there is a great russian tea room in the building behind the Neue Wache on the Unter de Linden. Just a thought ...great atmosphere.

Thanks,
Eric

Duncan - I would love you to perform or record a Blue Nile song. I grew up with their music and was lucky enough to see them play live in Glasgow and Edinburgh years ago. From a late night train maybe? I was introduced to your music only recently and it evokes the same stillness and honesty as they used to. Hope it ok to ask.

Eric,

Do a search here at the site.... put in Buddhism. You'll come up with lots of links and stuff. Also try your local well known bookstores and local libraries. I have been studying about one year now. I am reading something pretty much everyday, if not more than one book.

Peace,
Michele

Duncan,
I am currently taking a Religion class in college and am doing some research on Buddhism. I picked it b/c I am interested in learning more about it--partly b/c I have heard of your interest in it; which makes me want to learn more about it. I am curious as to what drove you to "convert" and how you practice Buddhism in your everyday life. I would just love to hear a little from you on your thoughts about Buddhism, etc...thanks so much--take care...
Warmly,
Jessica

Hmmm, It's kinda weird because I have read other message boards before, but have never really posted. Something inside compelled me to do so now or perhaps I just believe in what I'm hearing in your music.

I always heard your hits on the radio and "shoot me" never purchased your music. Well, everything happens for a reason. Timing must count for something. Recently, someone who has come into my life(miracles do happen)and is very important to me, made me a CD with two of your songs on it.
(alibi and that says it all)

Needless to say, hook, line and sinker, I'm in. The music, the band, the sound and especially the lyrics are just about the best that I have heard in all of the 90's and then some.

I know I'm late, but you guys are very talented and the music makes a heartfelt connection with me. I have all your CDs now and look forward to the new one. I hope to catch you all on tour someday soon. Duncan, I never really connect with male voices, (go figure) but you have a very comforting voice to say the least. Its sounds honest and believe me, music now a days just seems so processed. So, from a fan of music and a fan of living life honestly, I'm glad your music was properly introduced to me from someone who got you from the start. Someone who got me from the start. You’re great. Have an awesome journey, thanks for sharing through your music.

over and out....

Hello Duncan!!!
My name is Neal Walk, I'm a 28 year old musician currently recording our bands first CD! I've been playing guitar now for over 14 years and started playing acoustic guitar about 3 years ago and it changed my life. I play my Martin DCME exclusively and wouldn't trade it for the world!

Ok let's see here...I've got a number of questions so hopefully you'll be able to answer in due time. Firstly, let me say that I have been inspired and moved by your work now for over five years. You truly are pioneering legend in the singer/songwriter category. Ok, first off, what type of guitars do you use both in the studio and live? I was able to catch one of your performances on television a few months back and saw that you were directly micing your guitar. What type of mics are those? It was a very earthy, full sound and was reminiscent of how an acoustic guitar should sound in the studio...I loved it! I want to learn that trick for live shows! Also, I read that your latest album, which is mind blowing by the way, is meant to be an accompaniment to a play that is going to be touring the country, is that right? Is your album going to be the primary musical score for the play? I want to know where I can catch the performance.
Lastly, I mentioned our first CD is being recorded currently. Well, we have interest from Columbia records and I wanted to know what you think about their label? We are very new at the label aspect of the industry and are a bit nervous about sending mixed versions of our material to them without any legal representation. Would it be necessary to copyright the songs before sending them to the rep that wants to hear more of us? Or should we just wait until our press kit is completed and worry about sending the material to them at that point? I just don't want to screw anything up, you know?
Hey I know you're mega busy, but once the CD is completed this Spring or early Summer, is there somewhere I can send you a copy? I'd be most honored to know your thoughts on the CD. Even if you hate it, please, any feedback from you would be well accepted. It's actually going to be something along the lines of Vertical Horizon meets Tantric meets Caroline's Spine meets Third Eye Blind meets Creed meets Fuel...hmm...doesn't sound very original does it? Lol...well we certainly aren't trying to re-invent the wheel...just trying to write great songs. I love the acoustic flavor it's taken though. I write all of our songs on acoustic, then some transfer to electric. I'm sure you know that route too. Anyways, Duncan, I am pleased to be posting on your forum and hope to perhaps even get a reply from you sometime.
Oh, also, what equipment have you installed in your home studio? I'm interested in knowing as we're about to embark on the same project within the year. If you have time, check out our nearly completed website at The Fatlads.com and make as much fun of it as you want lol. Cya Duncan, God bless and take care my acousitcally inclined friend.

Love, Peace and Happiness,
Neal Walk

Duncan,
In Buddhism we are not suppose to immerse ourselves in sense pleasures. Well Music is certainly one of these pleasures. I know it is your work. For many of us it is our work, our study and our lifelong love. I find it difficult to let go of my attachment to music and my lifelong love for it. This is a hard concept to grasp, become less attached to. Just curious to discuss it with you sometime, get to know how you have come to terms with it and your views on the practice. (Music of the outside world)

Much peace and love. BW
Goodnight.........

In answer to many questions on religion, I have personally been raised Catholic, being of Mexican parents and all. It's very hard to change once you've been attached to something for so long and I do wonder about other religions. There was a period in time that I actually sat and researched many different religions, Shintoism being one that definitely attracted me alot. It's hard to break old habits, going to church every Sunday, singing in the choir, and all that good stuff. In response to Kate's question, sometimes tolerance is better than trying to accept something new and different. If you truly care for the person that has different beliefs than yourself, see why and how it fulfills him. Being one with a higher being, faith in a person whom you can always trust and love is a very hard bond to break but being understanding and tolerant will help you surpass it.
I personally have stayed Catholic for I feel a strong bond with God but believe me that's it. I respect and actually LOVE learning about new religions and thoughts. I actually spend alot of time learning about philosophy and Socrates, Great dude. Maybe one day I will change my beliefs for God. Just keep one thing in mind, all relgions teach you to be true to yourself and to be respectful and tolerant of other people. It's hard, I should know, but not impossible.

Well, I wonder if that made any sense. Maybe it just probably confused you more but hopefully got you into thinking about things in general in regards to the person whom you share such a strong caring bond. Hopefully things have worked out because I haven't read any of the post after what you posted, so I don't know what's up.

Also posting something for Duncan to nibble on. No, it's not a deep philosophical question but just a mundane one, one which he'd probably not want to hear, and I don't blame him.

Just wondering when you'll be back in good ole H-Town (Houston) because I most unfortunately had a moment of temporary amnesia and forgot when your show was. It was in the back of my mind somewhere but apparently didn't appear until after the date you were here. Just wondering and would love to hear a response.

Through further studying, I have found it true to be perfectly immersed in Music and not be attached to it. It's all in the viewing.

Also, from my new understanding on religion, I have found that it not necessary to have to believe in any supreme being. All we all need is to just believe in ourselves. That is- Not Need Anything or Anyone Else.

That is a great feeling!!!!!

Well I think the religion topic's a hot one, lol.I personally have been through a crisis.I started to get into God and the bible and everything which was good, and i am a born and raised Catholic. Now the person (a really kool friend)teaching me about it was a pentacostal(if thats how you spell it). When i had mentioned it to my mother she almost had a heartattack, lol. She immediately started trippin,i mean she was like"they'll brain wash you" and yadayada..But i came to my own realization that you can learn from others but still be centered in your own belief,in god or yourself.Right now i just consider myself a cristian cuz i seem to have had some dissillusions with my catholic(which derived from the Christian faith anyway). What surprised me the most was that I found that the friends i know think we catholics are just as crazy as my mom thinks "they" are, lol. So i guess it's true that all things do come full circle whether it be good, bad,or just plain confusing!
What do you think DSS? Peace,Anabel

hey everyone, what's up? this is my first entry in the message board, so it will be really nice to meet all of the duncan sheik fans in the internet universe. so leave me a message on the board to say hi!

duncan, i have some questions for you if you have the time....

first, i am an aspiring musician. i've been singing for years and years and i just started teaching myself guitar a few weeks ago. i was wondering if there was any trick to remembering which fingering goes with which chord? i'm having some trouble in that department. also, i am graduating college in may (go me) and i would like to know if you know any names and emails in the music industry along the lines of promotions and tour management that i could possibly get a job with??? that would be fabulous.

ok duncan and co., it was nice writing to you all...hope to hear from you soon.

bye

Hey Duncan. I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but hey, what's once more? Before I ask, I'll just mention that I saw you at TCNJ back in January for the first time...you were awesome! I was directly behind the 2 girls w/ the "I Love Duncan Sheik" posters I am a pianist of many years and because of your music am now attempting to learn guitar. I hope to see you in concert again anytime you're in the NY/NJ/CT/PA area

Ok, so the question...With all things taken into consideration, do you regret writing Barely Breathing? I must say that I have not been able to stop listening to the song since the moment I first heard it many, many months ago. Its a masterful song, appealling to the pop-lover in me. Yet, b/c it was such a hit, people want more of the same. I respect you immensely for putting out what you want to put out. So yeah, are you glad you wrote Barely Breathing? Email me sometime at Toriswinter@hotmail.com ... we'll talk music

Sincerely,
Joe Novak

Hello Duncan!
I like all your songs, but there's one special that I really, really, really love - it's "Wishful Thinking". Lately I was wondering what is my favourite song generally & why. First - you know the name, and second - I have no idea! It makes me feel happy, so alive & sensitive.
I was wondering what did you feel writing this song & singing? Was there any special reason to write this song or just artistic intuition?

It's certainly been too long since I left a message here. I'm glad to be back and surrounded by so many devoted Duncan fans. He certainly deserves all this wonderful attention. I also was curious about finding some guitar tabs and/or chords. I just started playing guitar a few months ago and I have found tabs for maybe four of Duncan's songs. However, these tabs DO NOT sound right at all. I'd appreciate any info. My addy is wild_angel262@hotmail.com Gracias!

Duncan--Keep up the great work. You're quite an inspiration.

Hello Duncan-
I found your beautiful sounds via Bill Frisell's involvement in your last project. I maintain The Bill Frisell Discography online. It can be found at: www.bryanaaker.net
I have to say I've worn your latest release out, and consider you a refreshingly new, mature voice in today dense, uneven music scene. I will look forward to each of your future projects, and wish you all the best! Thank You, Bryan Aaker
