I was just wondering about this. When you first began practicing Buddhism, did you find some Catholic beliefs to be complementary to some Buddhist beliefs (forgive me if that's too invasive)? The only reason I ask is because we began studying Buddhism in class, and as a Catholic I found that to be true. Please keep the beautiful music coming. Sybil IP: Logged |

Duncan, Considering the vast amount of people listening to your words, and knowing that people's perceptions are based upon their own experiences, you must hear many different interpretations of the meanings of your songs. What are your feelings on the prospect of another's idea being completely different than the song's intent? I belong to an online poet site. It's a cool little site, very interactive, and we're a close group. My style of writing is very minimal. Though most of my work pertains to my own experiences, I keep the wording vague enough so that others can draw their own conclusions. Many times I've gotten comments showing a very different view from my own. And I think that's cool!!! It allows me to view my words in a different way, opens my mind to new meanings. I love it! Well, judging by the length of this thread, I'll check back in a year or two for a possible response Love your words (or at least my interpretation of them Dolores IP: Logged |

It has been difficult just to get to this point. A putter problem. Ah, at last. I would like to say thanks to Mike who was so quick to remedy the problem. Hi Duncan, I met you at Elitches Six Flags in Denver on June 9th. Wow, it was a strange evening for me. But a great one. I thanked you for playing at Elitches. I just senced at the time that you felt a little sad. For being there, I don't think so. I still mean it Duncan. THANK YOU FOR COMING TO DENVER! I live in Canon City, CO. However, I would have driven any distance. I never expected to be able to meet you. It was crazy, I didn't know you were selling your CD and all the ATM's had closed, because the park closed. I couldn't get any cash. I ran all over the darn park trying! When I got back I told my husband and I said, I would be happy to get to talk to you. Well the people infront of me, two girls and two guys, must of heard me talking, and I know that I passed two of them while running like a crazy person through the park. The next thing I know, one of the guys turns to me and hands me a 20 dollar bill. I couldn't believe it. It was awesome. I did get his name and address so I could send it back to him. But it continues, when the four of them were talking to you one of the girls kept telling you to pay special attention to me, that I was a special lady. Unbelieveable. I do not know why she kept saying that. I did not know any of them, but I thought that they were most outstanding and wonderfull! I did finally talk to you and I must appologise, I hardly let you speak a word. To excited I guess. I am embarrassed. I did ask you if I could give you a hug and you said yes. That was so sweet. I will never forget it. One other thing happened that was great, I was originaly sitting in the bleachers. I was thinking for about 20 miniutes that I would much rather be sitting in front of the stage. I have this great digital camera and I wanted to get a couple of close ups of you and the band. So, finally I went down to the security, I call them the "yellow shirts" and I asked how I could get a closer seat. He told me to talk to the security in the "blue shirts". All I said was that I really wanted to see you up close and what was the chances I could get a seat up front. He said that was good enough for him and he let me in. I asked if I could take the camera and my husband and he let me do both. What a fantastic treat!!!! While I was just sort of daydreaming, in my new seat, and thinking about how I could get a autograph from you, a person, who I later identified as Gerry Leonard came out to tune his guitar. I had not a clue who he was. I looked up at him and he winked at me, so I smiled back. It wasn't until later that you all came out on the stage did I realize who he was. Talk about Karma. I am convinced that the whole entire evening was ment to happen just as it did. But the sad part was I unknowingly deleted all of my photos of you and the band. I still feel that one. A chance of a life time lost in a fleeting second. I feel so stupid, even now. Duncan I don't know if I will ever meet you again, I mean I can only hope. And I can't repace the great photos I took; but some day I wish that we could just sit down and talk. I am sorry that I didn't let you talk that night. I later I asked my husband how many people were in line to meet you after us and he said we were the last in line. I never looked back after hugging you, I don't know, I didn't want to look like a school girl. And most of all, I thought it was so awesome of you to meet with everyone that I just didn't want to intrude on your time. Thank you for signing my CD. It is very, very special to me as you are too. And thanks for reading this lengthy story. My question is what is the chance of getting a photo from you? Very Sincerely LIZ YOunglove IP: Logged |

Allright, what gives? You were at my friend's apt. (before the Chicago show)and I couldn't make it. I would've loved to have met you and discussed spirituality/creativity, but as a single-mom - need a little more notice. Can we work on that, so I don't miss the opportunity again? Dear Duncan, I saw you for the first time on the Regis and Kathie Lee show several years ago when you were promoting your debut CD. I was very impressed by the way you handled yourself the second time you appeared when your guitar string(s) broke at the beginning of one of your songs. You wound up having to sing a capella and you were just terrific. I can remember Kathie Lee saying many times after your appearances how your CD was truly one of her favorites that she listened to along with the soundtrack to "Somewhere in Time." Do you recall that happening on the show? Are you always prepared for something like that to occur? I bought your album after that and have been mesmerized by the beauty of your voice and the lofty, ethereal sound of your music. Your music reminded me of two albums that I have loved and listened to ever since I was in college back in the mid 1970's. This other young recording artist had a similar quality to his music in that it was simple, lovely and mostly done in a minor key. I had never met anyone who had ever heard of this man back then, but I have continued to play his LPs for over 30 years now (scratches and all). Then when I listened to your first CD and Phantom Moon, I realized that you reminded me of him. This "unheard of" musician's name was Nick Drake! It is only through reading your website that I have found out that you not only think highly of his music, but you have also covered his Pink Moon album. What a delightful coincidence that has been for me----to think that I have admired Nick Drake's music all these years and never knew anything about him, then along comes you who reminds me so much of him. I would be absolutely thrilled to able to see one of your shows after reading all of the wonderful things your many faithful fans have written to you. Would you ever consider coming to the Southeast area---to the Heart of Dixie---to Alabama to be specific? We would love you here too. Anyway, I must tell you that I was completely captivated when I heard "Mouth on Fire" the first time I listened to it. It normally takes me a few listens before I familiarize myself and warm up to a song, but this one got me on the first go round. The guitar intro is so gorgeous and it is somehow reminiscent to me of some Led Zeppelin sound. The entire song isn't, just the introduction chord progression. Maybe it's that particular guitar tuning. Is it an open G tuning? Am I crazy to think that or would you agree to some extent? I wish you the best of luck in your continued success. You are truly a talented and gifted young man whose music and lyrics have moved me greatly. I look forward to any new projects you have coming out in the future. Thank you very much for your time. Sincerest regards, IP: Logged |

Back in 1996 a friend and I went to see Jewl at the Tradwinds club in Jersey. We had never heard of Duncan Sheik before, so we sat through his set and when he was done I shouted out his name. When he turned to me with a smile on his face I said, "could you give this tape to jewl." and the smile disapeared as he took the tape and proceeded back stage. Later on during the Jewl show we went to the side and bought his first CD, and once we listened to it, we became loyal Duncan fans. Till this day I still feel horible for doing what I did. Duncan, if you ever read this message, I apologise profusely and would like to say that your music, to this day, inspires me as a musician. I saw you the last few times you were in the area and hope you will have a show in jersey soon. IP: Logged |

Dear Duncan, Hi, I saw your show last night in CT (9/7/01). You are wonderful. I could barely speak when I talked to you after the show. I'm Jessica. (I was sitting directly in front of you in the front role.) You probably don't remember me, b/c you meet so many people, but your music really inspires me. You are so incredibly nice. My favorite song is "November". I feel like I know you, when I listen to that song. I would love to see your show again. It was one of the best days of my life. I know you are probably very busy, but please email me sometime! DawsonSB22@aol.com. Love you, Jessica

Duncan- First of all, let me say that I think you're amazing. You have such a talent for writing lyrics, and seeing you perform live in CT was the most awesome birthday present I could have asked for. Now onto the questions... What inspires you? What are you afraid of? What are your favorite songs and your favorite musicians? And my heart goes out to everyone in regard to Tuesday's events. I know I am still devastated. -Linds IP: Logged |

Duncan, Have you ever had a fan name their child after you? If not, you have now! My husband and I saw you in Norfolk, VA. (We were actually staying at the same hotel- I held the door for you when you ran up to change before the show) I was pregnant at the time, and after the concert my husband and I were so impressed with your awesome performance that we decided to name our son after you! Hello Duncan, This is my first post, so I am not sure if you have answered this question already: How can I purchase a copy of Humming Along? You mentioned it as a rarity, and only breifly mentioned it your bio. Is it still (or ever) in print? Please advise. Thank you. David IP: Logged |

Hey Duncan~ I caught your show in Hawaii back in July, amazing, cried the whole time. My actual question (besides the selfish "when are you coming to Hawaii?") would have to be pertaining to your performances. I have terrible stage fright and when you are up on stage you are always just so peaceful and calm, yet passionate and strong. I am sure this has a lot to do with Buddhism, but is there something that goes through your mind while you are playing to put you in such a tranquils state? I loved your performance, and am loving your music. Thanks for everything you have shared with us. Much love and aloha~Molly IP: Logged |

Duncan, Im a big music buff and really enjoy your work. You just moved ahead of Sting to my top spot. Do you ever play at any clubs inthe city? Would you ever consider playing at a cool party/charity event? Perhaps a party of married couples 35-45 in Westchester might not sound too cool but you probably went to school with a few of us. Determining budget now and probably can't afford you these days but I thought I would check. Simon IP: Logged |

Duncan...Hello and I hope your well. this may sound silly ..but I have been trying to contact you through the web master with no luck { ![]() Seriously though two things..We met in Annapolis MD @ the show @ Ramshead. I of course am a big fan. I was writing to you to let you know I have a College Format Style Radio Show in Annapolis, on WYRE 810 AM. It's called Rhythm Notions and I'm happy to say we are a show for musicians by musicians and I support the local music movement as much as possible. I play Nic Drake..Allison Krausse...all the great musicians of our time. Not to mention all the Duncan you can handle! Secondly I was hoping to get you on the show the afternoon of the November Ramshead concert. If you could spare 20 mins of your time to come in and play a song or two..or even just to let people know your gong to be there. You can rest assure after this weekend I will be talking about the upcoming show on Rhythm Notions as much as possible. Either way thanks for the great music..Thanks for coming back to Maryland..I know I'll be heading over there right after my show ends to see you do a great show as always! Hi, Firstly, pleese excyoose mye engleesch ... I'm french and I'm very surprised to see that your music is still unknown in France. I guess that it must be a choice because with the music you do, it will be enough to want to be successful to be successful ... So, why are you absent from the french musical landscape ? And, since I know that you've already come in Precy sur Oise and at Le Reservoir, Paris, are you going to come in my country ? Please, it's very hard for a fan to have no way to see you and for a musician to have no way to hear what you do in live !!! Thanks for creating this forum ! IP: Logged |

So glad I found your site. I was reviewing a song on a website and thought I could sense your influence. Turned out I was right, you produced his CD (Micah Green). I have always felt that if your music comes from a place of honesty whithin then it will touch hearts. I think your music does that. I hope mine does as well. Wish me luck in promoting my next CD. I know you are a busy man but I wish you could hear my music. Your perspective would be of interest to me. In any case, I would just be satisfied to know how you do it all and keep sane. Hello, how're things? Good I hope. Well, I live in New Jersey, and I have in the back of my head that you were either born in New Jersey or lived here. Is that correct? I would love to attend a concert of yours, considerring I love all of the music I have heard from you. Do you ever do concerts in this area? Yet another question...^_^ What musicians do you listen to yourself? I love know what kind of music people listen to. Even more, I love to discuss music with others. Music has to be the thing that has the most affect on me. Oh, it seems that your birthday has just passed. I must admit I don't know your birthday, but happy belated birthday anyways. IP: Logged |

How much oil should i add to my car if it's a quart low? If you/or anyone could post the tuning for "Foreshadowing" I'll be forever in debt. I'm trying to win a girl over and thats probably the most beautiful song written. I realize it's probably played on the baritone, but I'll make due. Also, Duncan, if you need more help wiring, I'm more than willing. Let's cut a punk or hip-hop album. I'm retarded. xxoo, IP: Logged |

Hi Duncan! I'm a 21 year old boy from Hungary and I've just listened to your music recently. The first two songs I got to know were "Whisful thinking" and "Reasons for living". I play the guitar too and it was very exciting to find out what kind of accords you use in your songs. Your alternate guitar tunings are also very interesting. I often play your songs for my friends and they like you too. I would like to ask you when you begin to be engaged in playing the guitar (or do you play another instrument?) and if your lyrics have to do with eastern philosophies? I love your music and I like to congratulate you on your whole work! best regards: Peter IP: Logged |
