If I told you my sex was other than a girl would you pay more attention to my reply since all boards are overwhelmingly female?
Anyway I just wanted to say thank you for playing in Salt Lake. I really enjoyed the show. I also wrote an e-mail to the address: duncansheik@atlantic-records.com is that an accurate e-mail address and do you ever look at that? How do you feel about typing your name into a search engine and having over 3,000 hits on you appear. I really do believe your song now about getting laid because of being artsy. That must really be hard especially if you are really looking for a meaningful relationship in any form. My family has a long line of writers in it. A lot of them use different names so that they won't have to deal with things like this. I have gotten a few stories in various magazines, but I agree with my families tactics; do you think that's harsh to the public? I'm not one for flattery, but I just wanted to say that your instrumental genius strikes a chord in me that vibrates an unmentionable feeling. Also I am very proud of your sencerity and honesty it is a very noble trait to possess. At that comment I might be completely off because I don't know you, but only know your music, which many people tend to believe that this makes them truly know you. This of course is far from the case in my opinion, but do you feel that some of your songs leave you bare and unprotected. I feel this way with some of my poems that are in compilation books. Thanks for your time if you or someone from the staff reads it. It's just nice to be able to write about this sort of thing and know that someone like other fans will at least listen.

I'm sorry one more question is there a way that I might get more involved in this site than just as an observer, listener and reply person?

Dear Mr Sheik,

I am a big fan of your music. And have been trying to find sheet music for She Runs Away, (one of my favorite songs). Because my friend knowing how much i loved the song found a (live studio solo). I have been trying hard to work it out but i am still having problems.. is there anyway i can find tab or you know how i may purchase the sheet music for the studio solo version?

Thanks for your time and giving me the pleasure to listen to your gift.

Caladesi and November Breath. Here is the poem -

Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherized upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming question . . .
Oh, do not ask, ‘What is it?’
Let us go and make our visit.

Erindiven,
I don't think Duncan being "artsy" has anything to do with getting laid. I think it has to do with being a good looking guy with a VERY sexy voice, a VERY sexy smile and VERY sexy eyes.

No offense Duncan but ANYTIME, ANYPLACE OR ANYWHERE! Nothin' artsy about that!

Hey Duncan!

I was wondering if you were an the Duncan_Sheik or Sheiktalk mailing lists?

If you want to freak out a ton of people, and make their days, you could post on one of those lists.

angee: I'm pretty sure "man-jah" is Italian. It is the verb for "to eat". Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

!!!! HIKING AND MEDITATION !!!!

Duncan -

Questions: Do you hike? Do you meditate? Have you combined the two?

Reason: Next time you're in the Northern Virginia/Wash. d.c. area and you feel the need to hike and meditate in a natural setting, I'm happy to direct you to a great place for both....it's close in, a quick hike that's not heavily traveled, and quiet and peaceful.

no big deal and no groupie ulterior motives -the webmaster has my e-mail, I think, if you need to contact me.
cheers - r

!!!! WINETASTING IN BUDAPEST !!!!

Duncan -

my 2nd (3rd?) Question: Have you experienced wine tasting in Budapest, yet?

Reason: I, too, am a wine "enthusiast". I travel a great deal for work and I recently did a trip to Budapest, Hungary. I went to the "The Hungarian Wine House" in Buda (FYI, Budapest is split by the Danube - the wine place is on the Buda side) and wandered aisles of open wine bottles for 4 hours.

the next time you go to Europe, I highly recommend a detour to Budapest to do the wine tasting (and also, of course, tour the city, which is truly impressive, well laid-out (i.e., you can't get lost), foot-travel friendly, and excellent antiquing on both sides of the Danube - I was alone the majority of the time I was there and I did virtually the whole city on foot).

The wine house folks are very friendly and helpful, but not vultures (i.e., they didn't stalk me). They give you a glass and freedom to roam the cellar and sample from at least 50 open bottles (maybe more). Rich, bold reds; appley, fruity whites, interesting traditional wines-it was great.

I really hope you get this information before your next trip over - it was an amazing experience (my tastebuds are tingling thinking about it!) I think, as a wine enthusiast, you'd enjoy it, too. If you do go, I'd like to hear about your experience.

cheers - r

Here's a question: Did you think this thread would get this long when you first posted?!?!?! j.k.

Actually, I would like to know if you compose the orchestral pieces that accompany so many of your songs, in particular I am wondering about House Full of Riches - That is one of my favs - so powerful!

Please come back to Detroit soon - I don't want to wait another 2.5 years to hear your exquisite voice in person.

take care . . . Kathleen

good day to you sire! i am not sure how this works, since i never tried it but i'm giving it a go. it seems rather unnatural to write this in the first place, nevertheless i shall do it. since, this is all about questions? let me ask you this: what is your take on society's hypocrisy? we can focus on american puritanism, or hidden european hypocrisy....i am curious about this, since "humming" reflects on many aspects of society be that negative or positive. this is where you are respected as an ARTIST, painting deep and significant picture of our lives.
another thing, maybe less important, thank you for such wonderful creations. to a victim and survivor of bosnian war, you helped; i use your music as therapy, especially that haunting sound of a guitar. continue with great work, and be filled with positive energy!

peace

Hi Duncan-

Yoko and I really enjoyed the show in Seattle last night. YOUR VOICE! Very impressive. It was a great experience except for having to sit on that sticky floor. Ick!

Anyway.

I hope you'll let me know how you like the tracks I put together for you. Just a little something I thought you'd might appreciate. I go through these cycles where I listen to certain songs over and over again for about 3 or 4 weeks. I make them for my friends once in a while.

The artwork is a copy of a photo of my sister and I in Hawaii. There is a crazy story behind that trip if you ever want to hear it.

I'm looking forward to the Modern Pop album that I heard about when I caught you on the Oxygen network. I think I was home ill from work that day.

Also, what do you think of the remix work for Reasons for Living? Will you ever do something like that again? Most of the time nothing is better than it's original but I just love to hear the re-works of music I like - it moves me.

Looking forward to the feed back.

Warmly,
Matthew.

BTW, thanks for signing all the cd inlays.

Dear Wildsea,
I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you or Duncan, but how can you say what you did? You don't even really know this guy. He may be good looking and very intelligent, but isn't sex something more? Some sort of an expression that should mean more than just you look sexy let's get it on. I think Duncan's music is very moving, but not enough for me to lose my morality of how I feel towards making love or any type of relationship that I might have with someone. It should be more about wanting to show a person how you feel becuase they have given so much to you and you have grown so close to them through intimate conversation and other experiences. I would lose a lot of respect for people who would just do it with someone because of how they look and not who they are, and I'd be very disappointed of Duncan if he was to take you up on your offer just because it was made.

From,
Erin Diven

Hi Duncan,

I just got home from seeing you at the Roseland in Portland, and I want to say thanks again for your fantastic music. I'm new to the area and didn't know anyone to bring with me to the show, but I think having a friend there would've only distracted me from enjoying myself so thorougly.

Not only are you an incredible lyricist and musician, but you're also very gracious to talk to all of us fans afterwards. I came up and talked to you, twice (so presumptuous!), and though you have such a busy schedule and had places to be, it was kind of you to take the time to at least say hello. Too bad you're not in Portland for a longer time.

Best wishes for the Vancouver show and the rest of your tour,

Amanda

Hey Duncan:

Just wanted to say thanks for putting on a great show at the Soiled Dove in Denver (in spite of the feedback problem). My wife and I both really enjoy your work - it's such a great change from prepackaged pop.

Anyhow, here's my question for you: "Nothing Special" - did you have somebody in mind when you wrote it, or is it a reminder to yourself to stay down-to-earth? Either way, I think it's possibly the best track on your new album. Thanks again for writing and performing such thoughtful, introspective art.

Namaste,

-Joe

Hey Duncan- I'm new here... I actually just bought Phantom Moon this past Saturday. I have to say it is a beautiful CD that I will not be tkaing out of my CD player anytime soon. So, my question is- how do you come up with song lyrics? Does it take a long time. By the way, thank you for staying true to your beautiful music.

I have a question....Why didn't you play Barely Breathing at your Los Angeles show? The show was incredible despite all the sound problems. Your music has been a friend to me over the past few years and I felt blessed to finally see you perform live, however, I was crushed not to hear Barely Breathing. There is something about that song that.........well, let's just say it moves me. Anyway, thanks for touching my life. -cindye

How did you come to choose Nichiren Buddhism? My exploration of Buddhism has only begun within the last year and I suppose I am a little overwhelmed by its vastness in both teachings and sects. Currently, I am learning everything through readings of Tibetan Buddhist practices, The Lotus Sutra, and the Middle Length Discourses. So, there are many things I am constantly struggling with.

I have yet to really get involved with any of the organizations locally as I have just arrived in Santa Fe but I wonder if that might help. I am not asking for guidance so much as to simply hear what someone else's experience has been.

I am probably writing too much. I am not used to how this works yet. Since this is a "fan" site I suppose I should mention how much I enjoyed your performances both at Village Underground and The Northstar Bar. By the way, sorry about the morons that kept stepping on the light cord. I tried to keep them away from it but it is just a goofy setup having all of the lights plugged into one, unprotected outlet on the balcony. Hey, that's Philadelphia for you. It is a love/hate relationship that you never get over.

I expected to enjoy the music and your performance but I have to admit I was floored by your strong, beautiful voice. Your music is a transcendent poetic vision. I hope that you never stop making it as the world is surely a better place for it.

OK Mr. Sheik - You answered MY question regarding the San Francisco show; it was fantastic by the way, despite feedback problems and heat...(my heart went out to you when you were singing "Mouth On Fire" and this loud screech comes from Jeff's mike)...sometimes can't be helped though, huh? Playing smaller venues with lousy acoustics, plus other small factors? NOT your fault...who cares! The band was terrific!

So- How are you gonna answer 100+ relevant vs non-relevant questions?? That's my question - I have an idea...

Get help! Like from JEFF cuz I never did get the Shari vs sherry joke he told me! Something about an old movie?? Anyway...

So at some point answer what you can (and Jeff WILL help, I'm sure..teehee), maybe perhaps having someone organize the questions that overlap in overall content, then when you're ready, post your next thread as "Questions Answered (well, the best that I can, there were so many)" and dictate to someone who can post them for you - and lay it all out on us at once! Heck, we don't care! The fact that you take the time at all means the world to your fans...this one anyway.

Just a very late night thought; maybe consider it a joke; it might be better than JEFF's anyway (really though, I like Jeff, I just didn't get it...) I do realize you have your OWN ideas on how you'll do this...

Get some rest! What an exhausting tour, plus all you do for us fans...

Take care,
Shari.

*typos -again...*

AMAZING show at the Belly Up, 5/22/01!!!
Thank you so much for doing "From The Morning". You could have stood on stage and recited lentil recipies all night, and I would have gone home happy. But...how come there were no posters available anywhere at the venue? There were at least 2 or 3 available when you played at the Belly Up on the "Humming" Tour. Any suggestions on where one could be obtained?
Thank you again, Duncan!!!

There are so many questions here, I almost feel bad adding another one (almost!).

The show in San Francisco was better than I'd hoped, thanks for a great evening.

Is is usual for the audience to be as "outspoken" as this one was? Do you enjoy the rapport, breaking the ice, or does it make it harder to concentrate. It was fun to see, but not something I'm used to at Slims, although that venue seems ideal for audience participation.

I'm looking forward to future shows of yours!

sorry, I hit enter prematurely...kind of begs for a joke, no?? Anyway, what I was saying is that it is so nice to think that you might actually read these, it is so kind of you, and even if you don't I have learned so much from the others that have posted here. There are some very beautiful souls here. So thank you for both!!! I guess my question is regarding Phantom Moon, will there be a broadway play?? I have heard rumors, but I was hoping that you'd maybe know, or know if there was a place to make a donation/contribution???
I would love to be involved on any level with the production of something so beautiful....feel free to let me know, and thank you to everyone on the page for sharing with the rest of us............

Congratulations on the new album; needless to say I love it. Thank you for sharing more of your music with the rest of us. I was just wondering if you were planning on any Australian tours in the future. We'd really like to hear /and/ see you perform here sometime.

Duncan:

I was reading the posts and noticed that you mentioned being in London, which just happens to be where I live. Any intention of playing here anytime soon? Did I miss a gig? I checked your gigograhpy so I don't think so.

Anyway, working late and having Phantom Moon keep me company. Thanks for music that flys in the face of boybands and Britany Spears.

Peace

Hi Duncan!!

First of all let me just say this is an awesome website! I think it's so incredibly wonderful that you communicate with your fans! I have a quick question I've been curious about for awhile. I love the song "Serena" and I was just wondering what your inspiration for writing the song was, and if there is really a Serena somewhere out there

be well, and lots lof love,

D --

Just got home from the Coach House. A stunning performance, to say the least. I told my wife and friends (I admit, I am gushing a little), that tonight is one of those nights in your life that you are glad you did what you did... make sense??

A powerful performance.
Anyways, my favorite Nick Drake song is Northern Sky.. Which one is your favorite??

Sorry, I ended prematurely. I wanted to know if you have "Northern Sky" in your song list?? I would love to hear your interpretation.

Anyways, peace and respect to you and thank you for sharing your talents with us. You are a masterful guitarist, lyricist, and singer. You are definitely in the right line of work.

Late,

It is intresting to talk about religion and other beliefs, it´s a true reflection of the eternity that our hearts cry out to...

Ever wonder why?

Why do we beleive in something?

We will never understand the beginning and end to the things, but we could be filled with peace that surpasses our understanding.

Duncan, have you ever been filled with that sort of peace?

Kindest regards,

Rob

Nice website. I discovered it trying to show a friend who you were because we were having a conversation about who would be on our respective celebrity freebie lists....
I saw you play not too long ago at the House of Blues in Cambridge, MA. It was nice to see how you've grown as a performer since your days at Brown (I was Class of '94). What do you think has changed the most about you as a musician since you first started out? The least?
