Hey, I'm loving reading all of your posts (well, most of them...there are a lot) but I'm wondering if maybe it will be easier for me to answer specific questions if I start this thread as the "questions" thread. So ask away and I will do my best to answer the questions it seems relevent to answer. Also, I love the Christianity vs.other belief systems conversation started by Kelley (sic?) Now the conversation should get really interesting! More on that subject, you can be sure, later. Peace and Love DSS IP: Logged |

I have a question but it isn't a DEEP Question. In "Wishful Thinking" do you say "listen to the ways" or "waves"? I've looked up the lyrics and it says waves but I just wanted to check. Also, If you weren't in the music profession, what would you have gone into? Thanks! Lisa from MI P.S. Great Concert! IP: Logged |

OK Duncan, first question... how on earth do you have the time to read and post on this message board with a tour schedule like your's? I'm an "old lady" with 4 little kids and barely have time to check my Email twice a week! Absolutely loved seeing you in Pittsburgh last month, by the way -- your music is simply beautiful. --Karen W. IP: Logged |

Are you going to do any shows in NY this summer? I live in VA and just saw you recently at the Norva. I'll be spending most of the summer in NYC and was hoping to catch a show while I'm up there. Thanks ![]() ~Kat~ IP: Logged |

OK, simple question coming your way... How the hell are you? Your tour itinerary is brutal, my friend. I hope you are in good health and spirit. Watch out, I am sending you positive strength vibes to help with the rejuvenation process. Did it work? (well if it didn't, I hope I at least got a smile out of you!) Also, I see you are going to be in San Francisco on 5/20, care to join a great bunch of people for the 90th annual "Bay to Breakers" event. Bay to Breakers is a project of the San Francisco Bay to Breakers Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of the Bay Area children and youth, and assisting young people in crisis. Why not enjoy a nice walk in the bay area while you're in town! For more info go to www.baytobreakers.com. Well, I wish you good health and wellness! Sid IP: Logged |

Hi Duncan, I have a quick question: Do you have any television performances scheduled? Drifter mentioned that you will be on Craig Kilborn, and the Weekend Today Show later in May, but do you have any other ones planned? Thanks for your time!! Tina IP: Logged |

Good day Duncan - I was just trying to get brave enough to ask you on the General Forum about perhaps you maybe having time to post a new topic - so, well, thanks!! Hope you are still feeling well on this tour as you're about to hit the West Coast -pleanty of us chatting here will be at San Francisco 5/20... Question: Will you be at the San Fran gig with the whole band? - or, since this gig is a club, will it be more "scaled" down (have seen your show in both formats and liked them both!) Just wonderin' though! PS- Got lots to say about the Christianity vs. Buddhist thing, but decided I mostly agreed with BrunetteJuliette and Kellye - (Yeah, I have a great relationship with J.C., but meditate and embrace all meaningful spiritual thoughts...whatever gets you through...) Thanks for posting! Hope you get some really great questions to answer, see ya in The City 5/20! Didn't mean to hit the frown guy!! Typing with one hand right now!! SMILE... First...thank you! As already mentioned, it is amazing you have time to contribute/post as you do. Superficial question: Do you fly/bus during touring? I'm wondering because I'm trying to coordinate the Denver/Santa Fe/SLC shows, and it's all rather hectic...and it's just me. Good thoughts to you, L. IP: Logged |

Simple questions. Okay, the one that I am going to ask you is one that has kept me up at night thinking about. It is just groundbraking. How tall are you? Some believe that you are five foot ten, but I believe that you are five foot eight. So who is right? Please answer. Carly IP: Logged |

Hi Duncan! How strange that you just started this today because yesterday was my first time on your boards and I already posted my question in 2 different places wondering which would be the best place for you to see it. Anyway- first, I want to thank you for your amazing performances! I am a musician here in Pittsburgh. I saw you a few weeks ago here but I also saw you in 1996. I was just wondering why you aren't playing with the same guys. I agree that this band is great, but there was definitely something about the other band that was better. I don't know exactly what it is, just to me, the other band just "gels" better!! I know how important it is as a musician to play with people that you really "Click" with, and I think that the '96 band just had a cooler vibe. Again, just curious... I want to be sure to thank you for your REAL music which is such a refreshing change from the shallow, lip-synched, power pop trash that has taken over the ever-more-homogenized music business!! Sorry for rambling, but I am curious to get an answer to the question! Thanks again- and YOU ROCK!! IP: Logged |

Hey Duncan!! It's always so great to hear from you!! I hope you are in good health and that those lovely pipes of your are doing good as well. This is a small question but here it goes. Are you coming to the Birchmere on your next tour? How did you like playing for the Alexandria, VA audience? We are a loud bunch, huh? LOL. The show on April 24 was the best night of my life and getting to meet you afterwards was divine!! Thanx for signing my Phantom Moon cd, taking a pic with me (which turned out wonderful, might I add), and letting me hug you twice You are always welcome in Alexandria. You have no idea how much you are loved here!! Keep on rockin' sweetie!!Hugs, Kisses, and Best Wishes, P.S. And thank you for introducing me to Buddhism. I have recently started reading up on it and practicing it and I have found a lot of strength within myself. Thanx again IP: Logged |

Well...I suppose this would be an excellent forum to get some input from anyone willing to share their thoughts with me. I am finding it horribly difficult to have a relationship...basically it boils down to the fact that the person I happen to have much respect and love for doesn't share my beliefs. Perhaps that is not the most accurate way to describe the situation: He is Christian (which is just fine by me just so long as Christians behave as they preach--nothing I loathe more than a clueless hipocrit) but last night I told him if he remembers one thing I ever say to him for the rest of his life I would like it to be this; Believe something because you truly embrace the principal and not because it is either the easy theory to accept or you allow blind faith to prevail. I myself do not happen to share his particular beliefs...ever since I was about 16 I have leaned toward eastern philosophy because a part of my soul is so at peace with the main ideas and it transformed my outlook on life. I have always been one to question and I came to a point that required me to choose between what I had been raised to accept and what I TRULY accepted. So difficult to explain with words. I love to learn new things...even if I personally do not believe them myself. He is a wonderful person...and he never forces his beliefs upon me, but for some reason I just feel as though I resent the fact that deep down inside I know he believes the main principals of my spirituality are incorrect. I have never asked him to convert...I would never do such a thing. I respect him. Now here is a major question on my mind...Can you truly respect someone (especially your significant other) if you do not share their beliefs and view them as wrong? Honestly...I'm at a crossroads with this one. I feel as though there are many people who embrace different religions that I have respected, but now I wonder if respect actually depends upon agreement or disagreement. Perhaps tolerance is the key rather than respect? He's willing to learn all about what I believe but I know this could potentially become such an issue. So many people conduct loving and happy relationships without sharing the same faith. How possible do you think it is? Any advice for me? ~kate IP: Logged |

Hi Duncan! The first concert I've ever been to was yours at the Birchmere Center in VA. It was truly special for me because it was also my birthday. I would have written sooner but I figured there really wasn't a chance of you reading this or replying. Plus, I'm in a musical and our practices are quite time consuming. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for making my birthday incredibly special and the picture that I took with you turned out great! I hope that soon you will come again and hey, maybe it will be on my birthday. ![]() Best wishes on your next concert and I hope that life has been a blessing to you as mine has been to me. Sincerely, Lisa Puckett Ps.Sorry no question...but I would love to read the conversations about it! IP: Logged |

Hey Kate. Looks like you are in a tough dillema. I'm 19 and I recently converted from Christianity to Buddhism. The concepts of Buddhism appealed to me because there are such wonderful messages about peace, love and strength within it. I'm sure everyone can find that in Christianity as well, but something wasn't clicking with me in that religion and a lot of my questions were left unanswered when it came to that religion. I'm not downing any Christians or anything, it just isn't the religion for me. Anyways, when I told my parents about my new religion, they asked me if I was in a cult!! I was surprised and upset that they were so ignorant on the matter. I'm having a super tough time trying to explain it to them. They keep on telling me that it wasn't the way I was raised and blah, blah, blah. My mom is bugging me about it more so than my dad. I don't think my dad has a problem with it really. I think he just goes along with my mom to avoid conflict. But I still love them and respect their beliefs. It's perfectly okay to feel that way toward your significant other because I feel the way you feel when it comes to my parents. It's a very difficult matter so what I'm trying to do is expose my parents little by little to Buddhism. I don't want to shove my beliefs on them, but I think they should learn about what I'm up to. I do believe that you and your lover will get through this and that you can stay together as long as you don't down each other's beliefs. Relationships are built on trust and belief in one another, not religion. I know this was long and I apologize. Just had to respond to a fellow donut. Warm Regards, IP: Logged |

Duncan, So sorry to bother you again with a question. Will you ever release all of your videos on DVD or VHS in the future. It would mean so much to so many of us. I watch the videos on the website while I eat my lunch many days. A DVD would be much better! Just wondering -- sorry to take your time again! Tina IP: Logged |

Hi Duncan. Very curious...did you call a girl called Holly recently? Someone called her (pretending to be you?) and left her a message and she is very curious if it was you or not. She is blaming all of us and thinks we are playing a joke on her. To be quite honest, she is not a very big fan of yours and neither are any of us (a group of us were at your recent NY concert though-we went to Brown and RISD). We like the music but it's not like we are obsessed so that someone would want to play a joke like this. It's very odd. She's actually a very pretty girl (and very sweet) so none of us would be surprised if you did call her but we're all very curious now. Please respond yes or no. By the way, we met you a few times in Providence at various parties. Myself included. e-mail address: dvny@mindspring.com [This message has been edited by Mona (edited May 10, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Dear Duncan, Just wanted your thoughts on something.I was wondering what it was that initially interested you in Buddhism.Religon I know is a somewhat personal subject for each person and beliefs are usually based on personal experience and I am just curious as to why you were drawn to Buddhism and what your thoughts about the Bible and God are.- As far as my own beliefs go I know that without God's guidance I could not have made it this far.I can't imagine a life without the faith and hope I have established through the Bible, with the help of Jesus. However, everyone has different experiences in life, leading them different ways and I respect that completely.Everyone has to find their own faith andI have always been intrigued by the reason why people have chosen what they have as beliefs and I would just appreciate your viewpoint and thoughts on this matter. Many thanks for the beauty you have brought into the world through your music and your glowing smile!(¯`·._.·´¯`^> Julie <^´¯`·._.·´¯) [This message has been edited by BrunetteJuliette (edited May 09, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Duncan, I have to say that I agree with Julie. And also, it confuses me and leaves me distressed when someone says that some Christians are hypocrits and that is why they are against Christianity. Yes, of coarse it is true, but has there ever been a religion or belief that did not have hypocrits? I believe that a religion's characteristics shouldn't be based on whether if everyone abides to it, but instead what the religion actually practices. I'm probably not making much sense, but I thought I might just lighten the negative feelings towards Christianity. But, for me towards other religions, I respect them all. Everyone has their own beliefs and cultures. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, why is there such a stereotype of Christians being hypocrits? Anyways, thank you for you consideration on this topic. I agree, this is quite interesting. ![]() Sincerely, [This message has been edited by Lshimmer (edited May 09, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Hey Julie and Lisa - I pretty much agree with you guys and posted a note under the general forum "buddhism info" since that's where I read your replies, and probably Duncan did as well... I perceived from his post that he would like us to ask questions for him to answer (on this page, anyway) cuz he seems to be saying it's a bit too much to read everything? But he liked that topic! Guess it's all cool... All take care! [This message has been edited by wolfspirit (edited May 09, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Hi, Duncan! I met you in Providence and I'm sure you don't reme, ber but I asked if you ever did any Joao Gilberto covers. Well, you did a Nick Drake song here which was great but I was wondering if you ever perform "Three Hours". It's my favorite but the guitar is impossible for me to do. I've been dilengtly trying to get it right. Well, best wishes on the rest of your tour. take care, Michelle IP: Logged |

Hey Duncan, it's really nice of you to have a questions thread for us, with you're busy schedule and all. I have only a couple quick questions. 1. As you probably have read, many of us guitar players are very much desiring a tabs section to the website. The most desirable (and more realistic to ask) feature would be the guitar tunings for all of your songs, provided by you as you did in the Humming cd booklet. But dare I ask, perhaps if we were so fortunate enough, to have the actual chord fingerings from you? I know, that's probably too much to ask. Or, if you had music books for your last couple albums like you did for your first album, I definitely wouldn't mind that as an alternative. What are your thoughts on any of this happening? 2. Could I ask for a few tunings right now real quick? I wanted to know the tunings for Foreshadowing (my favorite), Longing Town, and Winds That Blow (which I really hope to hear live at the Coach House). If you have the time to answer, I would so so so appreciate it. Thanks for being such a great musical influence and inspiration to me. I hope you enjoy the rest of your tour. Take care. -Aaron [This message has been edited by Aaron Bazinet (edited May 11, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Hello Duncan, I could ask a million and one questions; I tend to be very inquisitive. However, I will tame my curiosity and ask only one. Do you every feel as if too much of yourself and/or your life has been made public? I ask this not only in reference to the probing questions asked by fans and reporters, but also in regards to the emotions and personal experiences you sing of or elude to in your music. Okay, I lied; I do have a second question. I write both poetry and fiction. I feel perfectly comfortable sharing sections from the drafts of my novels with friends and anyone who wants to read them, however, I am only comfortable sharing my poems with my best friend, of 15 years, and my mom. I feel as though my poetry is generally much more telling of my inner thoughts. My question is: As many of your songs appear to be based on personal experiences, have you ever completed a song and decided against recording it because there is too much of yourself in it? I do apologize for my long windedness. Thank you again Duncan for all you do. Best Wishes to you and everyone out there. Jenn IP: Logged |

Hey Duncan, I was wondering what your view on poetry is? I got into a bit of a tiff with my anam cara the other day. He said poetry is a selfish art. I agreed to some extent with him, and much bickering ensued. What are your thoughts? Wonderin' Toodles, IP: Logged |

Hey Duncan, Wow, you said my name. I feel ever so special! Just wanted you to know that I felt bad cause I thought God wanted me to tell you how I enjoyed your God-given talents, and I was too busy acting like an idiot with the whole "my first concert!" thing to tell you, so I'm glad you know how I feel. I feel better now. Seriously...I'm not being pushy...I was just thinking that...I suppose you know how it feels to really get into your faith. ![]() Love ya, the Birmingham show was SO AWESOME!!!! How cool is this? Hey Duncan, I have a question for you. I've posted it in the General Section before and we've speculated about it. Now I have a chance for you to answer it for me yourself: What is your ethnic background? We know that you're an American-born New Jersey boy. Your first name is celtic but your last name is a mystery. Would you clarify that for us? I met you after your Toronto show (I was the first person infront of the stage afterwards.."You killed me with 'Fake Plastic Trees'. I was the mad fool who screamed out for it.". You also hinted at something special that may be happening in June (crossing my fingers so tight that they're turning blue) to me. We took a photo together and in it I definitely think I see some English/Scottish familiarity there. Am I correct? In person, it was kinda hard to tell because I was bowled over by just how nice you were, but in looking at the photos the following day, I began to see a little more clearly. Please let us know. Motumbo p.s. That DVD idea is such a good one because if I wait for MuchMusic here in Canada to play any of your videos, "Hell will freeze over, thaw out, become Paradise and then turn back to Hell" before I ever see one. Remember: Canadians love you, man! IP: Logged |

Hey Duncan, Ok, I'm planning on doing a 3D movie and I was wondering if you'd do the soundrack or at least help me do one? I write a lot of music that's somewhat the same style as yours and your input would be an honor to have. Of course this project will take a very long time because I'm the only person who's working on it. Thanks oh by the way, [This message has been edited by Mohannad (edited May 10, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Hi Duncan. I'm so glad that you have written to us again amidst your very busy tour schedule. I have been reading many of the posts and was getting alittle bored, so its nice that you have posted again. Will there be any European dates and where and when?? It would be great to see you again. And, aside from your spiritual beliefs and practices, where do you feel you get most inspiration from for new works, new songs, lyrics, etc. What aspects of life move you the most? (To write and be creative) I'm sure some of these answers are found in previous works, but it would me nice to hear your words Duncan. Hope you are very well and having much inner peace. Talk to you soon Duncan. Michele IP: Logged |
