I most definitely agree that it is quite annoying to be scrolling through messages and repeatedly see "THIS MESSAGE HAS BEEN EDITED BY FREAK VOX" I mean really, if you don't want anyone to read it- don't post it!!!!! or if you are just someone who writes things, and then has a million second thoughts about writing them- write them down on a piece of paper first, stare at what you wrote for a while, and THEN decide whether of not you really want to post it!! Simple. You would save the rest of us a lot of time if you just thought things out a little first.

Have a great time in Europe! I'm so looking forward to seeing you in concert in Rochester, NY on April 16th. I have my tickets and I can hardly wait! Thank you so much for Phantom Moon; it was so truly inspirational.

Rather eloquently put. You are definately keeping me entertained...almost as much as Duncan's music does. LOL

Hey Duncan, I imagine you may not remember me but your memory might be jogged at the thought of the Primitive Radio Gods tour 96.. I was their roadie (with my buddy Rob).. Ahhh it's all coming back to ya now.. Well I stumbled across a board that you actually attend so I thought give ya a shout.. I hope all is well with you.. I've been following your releases and you're writing fantastic music.. One question: are you moving away from the Sylvian/Talk Talk influence ?? Just wondering.. well, you take care.. all good things for you.. p.s. I still have many strong memories of your performances on that tour.. Don

hey..how many of you out there..know what is really going on in the business? how many ds.s are going nowhere because their mom didn't know a connected lawyer in the music business and they are just as of evn more gifted then ds. are people that impressed with people that do nothing on their own to get a career? I am more impressed with eople that beat the odds ..and come from nothing. there are loads of musicians out there being beaten down by rich people like ds. that insult and abuse them. how well do you think duncan sheik treats the poor..in reality..not in mirror in the heart? do you all think that ds appreciates the struggingly artst.or do you think that he just snears at people and insults people that aren't in the jet set.? do you all think ds..is really humble in his personal life? do really think that he likes women? do you really that we know anything about him/ should we care?

Bobboo, you seem to be hanging out with Freaky... or maybe you are one and the same? No matter, because you can't disillusion everyone. Yes, there are people out there who have no business being in music, but are nonetheless because of the connections they have. SO WHAT? That's the way the world works, and you can always refuse to endorse or listen to their music. If Duncan started in the biz the way you say he did, obviously he had enough talent to be able to stick around for a while on his own merits as well as who he knew (and what an amazing talent it is). As far as Duncan's personal life - that's a no-brainer. It's PERSONAL. It is nobody's business but his own. If he chooses to share with us the way he treats others and views others, that's his decision and more power to him. In the meantime, we have no grounds to judge him on merely your information. Also, I would like to extend the same offer of a snail-mailed diary to you as I did to Freaky.

Well said, Courtney. Bobboo or Freakvox... whoever or whichever person you are right now, it's really not necessary to bash Duncan or his fans. As Courtney said, if you have some problem with him, you can refuse to endorse him by not buying his music. But it is really not necessary to post something negative and degrading the way you did. If you have a problem with the man, that's something YOU need to work out on your own. It's not something that needs to be posted here. Furthermore, Duncan cannot help coming from a priveleged class anymore than anyone else can help what class they were born into. Besides, whatever Duncan's attitudes and actions might be, they are his decision, and so his responsibility. So, why don't we all practice constructive criticism instead of plain old negativity. No one likes or needs to be attacked. Let's all remember that.

OK, bobboo, now you're just getting plain old mean, posting your stuff in Duncan's forum. Find someone more worthy of your bitterness. While we only DO have testimonial and the occasional post and a handful of interviews and articles to judge what he's like in real life (similar case: Jim Corr says, "Who says we're fucking nice?!?!"), I (and probably others) still respect the work he puts into his music, and unless he's suspected of faking album credits, he wrote the song, he performed on the song, he sings the song, and he tours with those songs. And if you think they're crap, just go away. If there was a posting board for the artist you give your respect to and I came to slag him, I'm sure you'd be all happy as well. Your ironic "ds is god"s and whatnots are just confusing some people!

I don't love Duncan like a God (although in my misguided moments I may claim to hold genuine feeling for him), I just listen to him and he makes me happy or sad or whatever it is I happen to want to feel, and he makes me think in his interviews (and thinking philisophical good things, not thinking, "Gee, she's a vapid whore," like when I pass by Britney Spears' interviews). He might be a good person, he might not be. I'll probably never know the difference, 'cuz the business is half about image too.

Yes, capitalism does bite something integral. Yes, it is unfair when politics and money matters get in the way of artistic expression. Yes, Duncan is very lucky. Yes, we do not know how Duncan is like in real life. Yes, you sound like you've met Duncan personally. Yes, we all have the capacity for great evil as well as great good. No, I don't think anyone believes you.

Okay, let us all take a deep breath....feel it in your lower abdomen....let it go sloowwly, while counting sdrawkcab from 7....now say "perfect nature, deepest wisdom lies within everyone" or......just say Hakuna Matata! That felt good. Ya know, I was getting all tense just reading the recent commentary even though, a lot of what is being said is very insightful and itelligent.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you Duncan when I found out that Fisher is opening for you at Lupos, I got very excited. I am now counting the days till the show....10.

lessa-

you crack me up, and though this is probably not a good thing - what you said reminded me of something i was once told.

i have a real problem with saying exactly what i think at times, and it's not always appropriate, and sometimes - it doesn't make sense to those around me.

anyway, a friend once told me to think about things, and say them in my head, before i say them out loud - so as not to put my foot in my mouth, or look silly.

your message made me think of this, and i laughed even harder.

cheers!

This is a bit in the middle of things, but I wanted to get in on the fun...

Just saw good ole Duncan tonight - what a great show! (Madison). It was totally raw, and totally "natural". Duncan and Co. were hilarious, even with an AC/DC cover.

I'm unsure if Duncan does indeed converse with those on this board, as I have been on boards such as these before, and it is a rather rare occasion. But I did want to say thanks, and 3 CD's well done. I can't wait to hear more. And your concerts are great. The first one I saw you did a cover of Fake Plastic Trees. Didn't think it was coverable, but it was great. And then, tonight, a little Nick Drake. Very cool my man!

Well, I know that my post is a bit late, and I'm not sure if it will even be read, but thanks for all you do, and I can't wait to see you tomorrow night in Chicago. A girl does need her sleep though, so I will sign off.

Goodnight, and goodluck all.

Duncan,

I had the opportunity to see you in Denver last weekend and I have to say that you give an awesome concert!

What a connection you have with your audience. I've been a fan since 1996 when Barely became a single, It took me a couple of months to find your CD. It is one of my favorites, along with the Humming and Phantom Moon CD's, you have a very special gift indeed.

I spotted you outside before the concert and knew it was you, it became real interesting because I pointed you out to my friend and others in line got involved, soon, everyone was having a huge debate as to whether it was really you, a girl that was standing in line in front of us said that she had met you and partied with you 5 times and that wasn't you. It was.

Thank you for signing my Phantom Moon CD after the concert. I wanted to have you sign my concert ticket but felt I had taken enough of your time, you had a line waiting and I didn't want to be rude. The reason I wanted you to sign my ticket was because when purchased at the Soiled Dove I put them in my wallet without looking at them, well, the date on the the tickets was for Tuesday, May 12th 2009. Funny huh, when I finally did look at them to put the date on my calendar I had such a huge laugh, the same kind of laugh that everyone else had at your concert, you are not only very talented with your voice, guitar and lyrics but have the ability to mesmorize an audience, and can be quite playful. I felt like I knew you somehow (spooky, huh!) Anyway, I thank you for that special evening. Next time you come to Denver I would like for you to sign that ticket if you would be so kind.

Sorry my thoughts keep bouncing from one thing to another but, I am pressed for time, but I just had to post this.

This is sort of strange but Im going to do my best to catch you in Fish Creek and I just found out we practice the same religion and lately Ive been working with Malas and I figured Id make you a strand, and was actually wondering if you prefer 27, 54, or 108 bead? Sounds a little odd, but I figure Malas are good to have around even if you already have like 9000 strands, and goodluck in Europe.

I wish you a safe and very good trip to Europe. I hope you visit Puerto Rico someday. I know you would not want to leave if you do. I love your music and hope to hear more of it soon. I wish you would help me because I am a song writer myself and I wish you would hear my music. I recently won a contest when I sang one of my songs to an audience. I won first place. And since you are so great at music you could help me.
Good Luck and have a super nice trip.
with love,
Angel

Duncan,
I was wondering if you could give me some insight on how I could continue to learn about and (hopefully) begin to practice Buddhism while I am in the Navy. As I'm sure that you can imagine, it is a little difficult to bring books and other things necessary to learn/practice while "they" are stripping me of my individuality....(Wow, boot camp is gonna be the hardest 8 1/2 weeks of my life.)

Please try and email me at your earliest convienance... Shakesgirlie@lycos.com

(Also, if anyone else has any ideas feel free to share...)

Peace,
Kelly

Hey Guys,

Just a quick head's up on this thread. The original message was posted back in March, so I believe the Europe trip has come and gone. The most recent message from him is the "Questions" thread, so it might be easier to reach him if you post questions and comments to that one. He said he would figure out some way to respond to the things that were written there. Just an FYI.

Ducan,

I realize that you get many quick notes and detailed letters from your fans. And it must become tireing to read so many all the time. But none the less I wanted to wish you a safe and happy travel. You will inspire fires in the hearts and souls of the people you preform for across the ocean I'm sure. You are a wounderfuly bright light of poetry and song.

Hey Duncan- Just want to say I think your music is great. Unfortunately I havent picked up Phantom Moon yet(Im a poor college student) but its on the top of my list for cds to buy! I love Self Titled and Humming. Just had one question for you. Probably sounds a little odd but I was curious if there was any way I could get a copy of some of the string scores to Humming or ST. Im a comp and arranging student doing some study on Orchestral arrangements in pop music. If I could get some scores I would be so happy!! Im trying to do some scoring myself for string quartet to go with piano, bass, drums, guitar, vocals. I dont know if this is possible or if Im crazy. If you can- let me know- I understand youre busy and if you cant respond to this Id certainly understand but if you do have the time, drop me an email- pianoguy283@yahoo.com
thanks - justin
