I was just wondering about this a few minutes ago and I wondered how I did not think about this long ago...One of the components of Duncan Sheik's outstanding music is his lyrics. I just want each of your opinion which of his albums has the best-written lyrics. Let's not forget Phantom Moon is exceptional. Anyway, if you please kindly give me your opinions. Thanks. I really like the first one, especially "In the Absence of The Sun" and "Little Hands" Those two songs are the best IMHO. My favorite CD is "Phantom Moon" but, as you said that's an exception. IP: Logged |

See I think that all is songs are well written. But other songs just are better than others. I think that "Little Hands" lyrically is a wonderful prose peice. But in overall album written fantabulousness I must say that Humming is the best. I think that it has the most stand alone songs. "Foreshadowing" is my personal fav. for almost everything. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Ok...far and away, the best lyrically written album was his debut, self titled album....and yes, in the absence of the sun AND little hands are also my top favorite duncan songs...but alas Wishful Thinking is my favorite song of them all, hence the screen name... peace- IP: Logged |

Interestingly enough, I'm not a huge fan of "Little Hands" for some reason. Maybe I'll sit down and listen to it again, I haven't in a while. Lyrically, I am a huge fan of Humming. I take nothing away from Daylight, which is the best of the both worlds of Duncan, the smooth, sultry sounds, and the rockin' hits. I just connected with Humming the most, especially with the song, "Bite Your Tongue" which expresses my cynicism towards a lot of people who are too serious. IP: Logged |

Man, this is a tough one! Both the self-titled album and Humming have their great moments. "That Says It All" had become one of my favorite Duncan songs of late, and "House Full of Riches" is also one of my select few. However, I don't think Humming can rise above the self-titled album. I don't know if it's because that was my first taste of Duncan and during the formative middle-school/jr. high years, or if it just truly is that amazing, but no album reaches the depths inside of me like his first album is able to. For me "Days Go By" is a big one, and I see a lot of truth in "Barely Breathing", but nothing will ever have the ability to match what "Home" means to me. I think it is probably the best lyrical song to me period. -Calvin [This message has been edited by Calvin924 (edited November 27, 2002).] IP: Logged |
