hey again everyone....well Lets get this thing going again....
lets do it like this...
pick a song you want to cover....post it here..to claim it,then try to record it. If you want to collaborate with anyone for any reason(musical instruments..etc..)
feel free....so i dont wanna hear the singers talking about "I cant do it because i cant play anything" hehehah..

well lets get crazy...Ill give more details on how to put it together..once i see how many people want to do it.. ok then let me shut up..and post the songs i would like to do in the next post.. :-D

you may have to download flash first.

In any event, I provided the direct link for the mp3.

Its piano/vocals of Start Again, recording together using my laptop mic. Intro is in the style of Tori Amos's "Icicle."

edit: btw, after it does the auto-install, you have to close out the window and re-type in the URL. then, it'll work

A question was asked about methods, instruments, etc... My response: The intent is to either record the song as close to "as recorded" as possible, or to make it somewhat different. Either way, individual personality and style will come out in the recording and both methods of approaching a song have their merit. I will record all the instruments- guitar, bass, keys, drums, etc... and the lead and backing vocals.

hey again...well i agree with the last post...but as well all know..we dont have recording studios..but we should at least include one instrument...for the girl who wants to sing acapella...i think you should ask someone to pair with you....Everybody should post the song they want..and the process involved in finishing it...so ask for help!!!....well then ill see you guys later

No we don't all have recording studios. I don't either. I do have a 12 track digital recorder, though I don't consider that stand alone machine a "recording studio" by a long shot. I guess there are differing opinions of what a recording studio is. Nevertheless, I am aware I (luckily) have more recording technology than some, and at the same time, less than others. I mentioned that I was going to record all the parts not as a "brag" per se, but rather specifying what I was intending to do, since you asked. I will have to go to a real recording studio to record a decent sounding drum part, though.... I don't have the space to properly set up my kit at the moment, nor do I have enough of, or the right type of mics to get a good drum sound. Is there a timeframe the songs are to be completed by? The holidays are coming up, and my time with all the holiday parties, gift shopping, and the general end of the year craziness will make finishing a recording or two a little more difficult than usual. I suspect the rest of you are in the same boat more or less. Please advise. Thanks.

I'll do Genius. Who cares if more than one person records the same song? One version is likely to be far different than the next.

later,

I would love to join in, but I also don't know how to play an instrument well yet, just now learning guitar. So could someone also get with me who doesn't want to sing but can play the music? I was thinking of End of Outside or Reasons for Living.
Let me know!

Ok, so courage has finally taken hold of me, along with the pressing "offer these before someone else does" bug, since one of the three I was thinking about has been mentioned already.

I, too, am not a qualified enough musician to write or play my own arrangement (btw, "Start Again" is awesome), so if someone wanted to lay down the instrumental parts for "On Her Mind" and "For You" I can get the vocal track.

Yes, this is my first post, and as a bit of intro, I'm a newly found Duncan fan, thanks to a very good friend who brought me to his in-store performance here in Minneapolis a couple months back.

Hey Shane! I think you should give Half-Life a go...maybe I could help you out w/ the musical accompaniment. If you really wanna do the song, go for it.

And thanks for the compliment on Start Again

I am really impressed with HeRunsAway's piano and vocals on "start again", you have your own style, and it's nice.

SteveY's vocal on foreshadowing were breathing as well....for a second, I forget it was a cover..

ok, don't get mad:

could someone tell me why you are all doing this? (not asking sarcastically) did duncan say something about it? i mean, i know it's fun, i sing all the time, but did duncan ask for this or was it just someone's idea? or are you trying to get famous, like maybe duncan will like your voice and ask you to sing in his band?

also, how many girls are singing duncan songs?

sing in duncan's band? Nobody does that.

I think this project is happening as a GIFT for Duncan. I am not a contributor (because I suck) but I think its a very sweet gesture for fans to sing back for Duncan and give him something to keep. If he gets too old to make music for a living or something -- he can listen to it and think back on all of the lives his music has affected. I think thats pretty cool.

I think Julian started this. Would I like the recordings to be sent to Duncan? Yes. Would I like to join his band and sing and play? Yes, but not because he's famous, but because his music means something special for me. Even if the recordings don't get sent to Duncan, that's fine. I would be happy that someone would likely appreciate and be receptive to "my kind of music" that will be covered here and that is it's own reward.

Hey maayayou, I'm a girl and I'm trying to get someone to put the music to either Out of Order, End of Outside, or Reasons for Living so I can sing to it. I'm learning guitar but no where near being good enough to actually do a whole song. (:

OK, I'm really upset that it took me so long to get in on this, but I'd LOVE to be a part of it. I can supply guitar, but someone else will have to do the vocals, because (1) I don't have a mic, and (2) I don't have a bucket to carry a tune in. Of the songs I could do, I believe that Alibi is the only one that hasn't been picked yet. I know Mr. Chess has, but I'd love to do the guitar if anyone backs out. I could also do A Mirror In The Heart. As for the post by Jason, I'd love to do the guitar parts for On Her Mind and For You.

If anyone is interested in helping me with the vocals for any of these, please post here, or send me an e-mail at kaczano1@msu.edu.

Hehe. I know my singing sucks, gimme a break I've never had voice/piano lessons or anything I had a little trouble hitting some of the lower notes. I messed up in a few spots too. I have higher quality file of this if anyone wants it, I just had to lower the encoding to upload since I'm on 56k phone modem >_<;
