Is it just me, or is Duncan's last song "Shine Inside" sound straight out of a James Bond movie? I love the song but as I kept listening to it, I kept getting these pictures in my head of silhouetted naked women spinning around with hand-guns set against a cheezy background. I thought "Where the heck am I getting these stupid images from?" and then I put my finger on it: intros to James Bond movies! Also, whenever I hear the beginning to "Memento", I think of speeding in a silver Porsche along a twisty Spanish coastline as the sun is setting. What Duncan songs, if any, give you stupid little thoughts? I have a few others but I'll wait to post them. You could use any artist too besides Duncan. I KNOW other people have to have them. Don't be shy. [This message has been edited by bennyben (edited October 15, 2002).] [This message has been edited by bennyben (edited October 16, 2002).] IP: Logged |

Well, I don't get the Bond feel, but I know what you mean on Memento. I think of that movie "The Mexican" when I hear Reveries....talking about being in Mexico and all that. ![]() -steph IP: Logged |

Whenever I hear "Nichiren" (my fav song off of "Humming", BTW), I always seem to think of still images of an icy, woodsy highway on an overcast day. I was curious myself as to why I continually thought of this during the song... ...Then it hit me. The flute parts makes the song sound very similar to the score for the 1997 film "The Ice Storm" (one of my fav movies, BTW), which itself has an icy, woodsy atmosphere to it. Great movie, check it out. ----------------------- Matthew M. "...You change a heart, you change the world..." IP: Logged |

Hey Ben, I shared my thoughts on Memento in the Daylight room under "Memento = Soft Porn?" Also Ben, being that I am a Porsche nut, I must point out that you forgot the "c" in Porsche. Sorry, but it just bugs me. -Calvin IP: Logged |

"Nothing Special" (my favorite Duncan song ever!) has me imagining random person strumming on a guitar in front of a mirror, morphing into him playing on a stage in front of all sorts of beautiful people lounging around decked out in expensive clothes and jewels, sipping on all sorts of drinks in this sparkling, lavish room. They only look at him for seconds each before returning to their bored, wonderful state. Random person looks around self-conciously. After the second chorus, it's just random person looking at their reviews and throwing them aside, back to their guitar and the mirror. But it would be an image of the random person in the mirror and the background would be wavering blue. I listen to this song waaay too much if this is my mental image. oh yea, the choruses would have a green feel, something with leaves and random person laying in the grass before shooting a midnight sky. yea. it makes sense in my head...really. 'Memento' reminds me of Italy or of someone standing on the sidewalks of New York on a day with dark clouds. 'Shine Inside' conjures up the image of Duncan Standing on one of those city bridges on a dark cloudy day singing to a girl thats sitting off the edge IP: Logged |

Thanks Crystal. I'm big on imagery and just hoping Duncan'll take notice and use an idea of mine (oh what a dream come true). But yea, I'm thinking about going into directorial work. I love directing theatre type stuff too. So if you ever have directorial work, I'm for hire? I'm rambling. I meant to say..."Thanks Crystal" IP: Logged |

Calvin... Haha, thats funny! I totally agree with the "Soft Porn" sound to Memento! Also, in the song Start Again... I always the sound of a copying machine in the middle of the song... heh, so I think of a copy room. Mary IP: Logged |

Yeah, go for it nuTrishous! Those are some good descriptions! You'd be a good director I'm sure. Whenever I hear Alibi, I think of nothing fancy except I picture Duncan sitting on a stool in front of an orchestra playing and singing. Duncan there in jeans and T-shirt and the orchestra in their usual tuxedos. I have visions of the violin bows going back and forth on their parts and the conductor with white crazy hair swinging away his baton. I probably get my "vision" from seeing the Columbus orchestra a few times and I have seen Yo-Yo Ma in concert too. He's an AWESOME cello player. He did the cello for the soundtrack to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It would be great to see Duncan do something with him in concert. I'd pay a lot to see that!
