I was just wondering if anybody got a chance to check it out. Alas, I live in Nebraska and had to work so i could not get up there in time. If you did go, how was it? Details please!
Thanks

I went, it was great.

They had Duncan shoved into this lttle corner of the record store, so I was able to stand three feent from him. I got to the show at 6:00, and saw Duncan do his sound check. He did little bits of "Wishful Thinking" and "On A High," while trying to get the sound to work.

The set started at 7:00. It was a little more than a half hour long, and was very good. Duncan performed "Barely Breathing,"Rubbed Out ," "Good Morning!," "On A High," "Start Again," "The End of Outside," and "Fake Plastic Trees."

Duncan was charming as usual. After he broke a string during "Good Morning," someone asked Duncan if he was embarrased about breaking a string. Duncan replied, "I don't think I can do on!"

When the show was over, Duncan went over to a table to sign autographs. Everyone that wanted to could take their picture with him and have things signed. I had a poster signed and had my picture taken with him.

All in all, it was a great show.

I went to the show and wrote about my experience in the thread titled "OhMaGosh."
There was maybe around 50 people if I had to guess.

I made the trip up to the Minneapple from South Dakota & it was well worth it! Duncan & the band sounded amazing. During the show someone asked about all his travels lately and he gave a very amusing reply about having been through enough airport "pat-downs" to last a lifetime (or something to that effect).
Duncan was very generous signing autographs & taking pics considering how exhausted he must have been. I wish I had more time to tell him how much I love the new album (and all his albums, for that matter!).
It was also great to meet some fellow fans while hanging out (hi Calvin-loved your post!; hi Tami-your pic is on it's way!; Paulo Coelho reader-how's the book?) I hope Duncan knows his music brings cool people together.
Duncan also played a radio show that afternoon on Cities 97FM. He played "Barely Breathing," "On a High," and "For You" in the studio. Duncan introduced his band: Jeff Allen on bass, Doug Yowell on percussion, and Jack Petracelli (sp?) on Casio keyboard. The Q&A; was cool, so here's a rough draft (forgive me) of what he said:
Q: Are albums an expression of who you are or where you were in your life at that time?
Duncan: It's funny, because after I finished writing Daylight, I realized it's about illusions, delusions, and fantasies. So it's about where I'm at...but also about where I'm NOT at.
Q: In songs, do you tell stories or show glimpses of your life?
D: I love story songs. I try to make things narrative to whatever degree I can. But really, the emphasis is more kind of on internal experiences and how you process those.
Q: How do you like interacting with fans?
D: It's great. It's really interesting to me to hear what people have to say about the new record & the other ones -- get their experiences -- it's always inspiring to me in a way. It makes me feel better about myself (laughter from all)-- pulls me out of my normally morose state. (more laughter)
Q: How'd the Ben Folds tour come about?
D: We've never met, but have been fans of each other from a distance for awhile. He's done college & university tours, which is an audience I haven't really been in front of enough. We're both really psyched.
Q: Re: Radiohead cover -- how much do you like to do covers & what do you look for?
D: That song is just an amazing piece of writing -- musically, lyrically -- that totally moves me & so I'm able to get in the spirit of it & therefore I feel it's okay for me to do it. It's really the only song I cover live...except for "You Shook Me All Night Long" (AC/DC)(more laughter).
Q: How do you like doing musicals/working with Steven Sater on "Spring Awakening"?
D: We're doing a musical with very modern & contemporary music instead of the "traditional musical", so it's a pretty cool idea. We workshopped it at Sundance, etc...the Roundabout Theatre picked it up and will first start next year in New Haven, then in New York in early 2004 -- these things take forever to put together.
Q: Do you enjoy it enough to do it in the future?
D: Yeah, it's great. Steven and I have other ideas in the works -- something more like a kids' musical we're working on. It's nice to be the composer and sit in the audience and see these things performed really well by great actors and singers. Such a different experience but equally gratifiying.
Q: Music is #1 in you're life...what's #2?
D: (Laughter from all, the band members say they have to get closer to the mike to hear this) You've just destroyed the serious mood of the interview.
Q: Okay then, are there other things that drive you?
D: Yes, I'm a practicing Buddhist and that's really important to me. I chant every morning and evening -- although it gets difficult to do on the road like this -- it's a huge part of my daily life. It's a great way to plug into this source of creative energy -- that's enormous -- and hopefully keeps me focussed & together & my feet on the ground.
Q: Touring schedule?
D: Check the website for the best updates. I'll be with Ben Folds through November & December, then will probably go to Europe in January.
That says it all, folks!
much love,
