Just curious what you guys think...

my personal plan for success:

Release Start Again as a single to target pop, alternative and rock radio stations

Release Such Reveries as a single (first make an edit of it ) to target pop, lite rock, and easy listening radio stations

Of course, the reality is that only one single would get released...so I'm going w/ Start Again And please let Lost on the Moon be a b-side on it

I think the next radio ready song should be "Genious"-- love that song, and "On Her Mind", "Magazines" is also good. I love most every song, but those are the ones that I think are radio ready and pop catchy tunes.

I think it should be Magazines for sure. That is a GREAT song.

I think that Genius is more marketable than any of the other songs on the cd. I love the song and it's one of my favorite ones of the cd, but it sounds mainstream enough to be more favorable to the public. Not that Duncan is trying to conform to some gimmick here with his new cd (even though he has stated it is more "pop" like), but I think that one would be more ideal if he wanted to get some more notoriety, which equals more money, from this CD in general. I think, and this is a way out of left field one, that Memento would also stand a good chance of getting some radio play. Ever since I heard the first version of Memento, I told everyone here that I thought Duncan was trying to approach his next CD with more of a David Gray type of approach (i.e. Gray's white laddar CD) by using different type of sounds to make it more catchy. I think that if it worked in Gray's case, it could definitely work in Sheik's case

Definitely "Genius". I think it sounded better on the KCRW Show, where the electric guitars on the chorus had more distortion and were more prominent.

I'm going with Genius, On Her Mind, and Half-Life. I can't see Such Reveries making it in the pop market. Frankly, I feel that the word "reverie" is too sophisticated for today's pop market.

Half-Life, Start Again and Genius in that order. I'd say no to Such Reveries or Magazines. They're beautiful songs but I don't see them as singles.

i definitely vote for 'on her mind' with the whole john mayer, jack johnson, dave matthews thing going on right now. i think it would be very appealing to the masses.

Seems to me that "Half-Life" has already been decided by the record label to be the forthcoming single...I mean, isn't that why it, along with current single "On a High", is mentioned on the CD sticker over the plastic shell?

I could be wrong, but I always thought that that's what those stickers were for. If I were to choose a potential single of my own, though, I'd definitely go with either "HL" or "Genius" (the latter song's primary hook would, I think, definitely make radio waves)

My pick:Genius

I was actually surprised this wasn't the first single off the record.Personally I think its one of Duncan's best songs.

I agree with you shillbilly....'on her mind' is in the same genre as john mayer and jack johnson....both of whom i've liked for a while.....i actually found more correlation between 'genius' and John Mayer's 'my stupid mouth'.....Daylight fits in that genre....but is not quite the same....which is refreshing....i haven't heard anyone like DS before or since i've been listening to him....(6 years now)....even though he changes from album to album...he's still completely unique..... and he sings in my vocal range....yippee for in tune singing!

Interesting that so many of you are rooting for Magazines... I know there's another thread right now ranting about On a High... I just have to say that Magazines is my least favorite song on the album, and my vote goes for Start Again

yeaaaah, I'm with Gabrielle. I don't partiuclarly dig "Magazines" very much and it doesn't seem to me that it'd be a good single at all. Start Again has a killer introduction and it's more rock so I would def. go with that one. I could envision it as a very artistic video, too, which I think would compliment the song perfectly... Something along the lines of the Volkswagon commerical with the "Pink Moon" song by Nick Drake. How stunning was that commercial?! No dialouge. Just beauty.

Maria--->the girl who only got 3 hrs of drunken sleep. lovely, eh?

I agree with Carlos on the video thing. He would be so cute since he gets shy about women issues, lol.
I do think "Genius" , "Start Again", and On Her Mind" are the three top songs for potential next singles. I am pretty good at predicting. I do that with other albums and have been pretty good with it.However, we have to hear "On A High" more on the radio and the radio stations will refer to it as his "new one" for probably a year-- that's so stupid. I want an all Duncan radio station-- that would be awesome, lol.

Again....... "Genius" and it appeals to the younger audiences as well.

For sure....it's been tested.
