I have heard this song mentioned on more than one occassion. Does anybody have it? I have looked high and low for information--but haven't had much luck. It is my understanding that it was a song he wrote when signed with Immortal records in the early 90s. When Atlantic picked him up, they initially pushed it rather than "Barely Breathing". Who knows more about this? IP: Logged |

In an interview Duncan gave several years ago, he said that "Stranger Than True" was a song that he rocked out on, but as everyone can tell, nothing was ever done with the song in terms of an official release. The funny thing about "Stranger Than True" is that its one of Duncan's first songs (if not the first song) to get any kind of exposure, since it made up the opening for an episode of "Melrose Place." Nobody, though, to my knowledge has pinned the song to a specific episode yet. However, the song's appearance on "Melrose Place" can partly explain why Atlantic pushed for this song over "Barely Breathing," even though "Barely Breathing" was the song that got Duncan's career started. Other than that, I don't know much more about "Stranger Than True." Its one of those songs that has earned its rightful place in Duncan Sheik folklore. yah...I know about the airing on the show. I thought it was 90210 for some reason (which we all know he later performed BYT on ...in the "peach pit"). Atlantic records was responsible for that exposure if I am not mistaken (both instances). They have serious INS with quite a few companies. It makes it easy to see why the Atlantic artists (Jewel, Brandy, Duncan) get cover on Leno and Letterman whenever they start to even look like a record might come out. I think Atlantic records has to be just about the best record company for cross promotion. The things they do with movie soundtracks alone are very cool. Okay.....so "Stranger Than True" ...somebody must have it?!?! I mean, I bet there is a recording someplace. I'm on a mission now. 'Stranger Than True' Is that the song Duncan was singing in that movie, 'Divas'? Yeah, I think it is! He was in the background performing onstage while the main characters talked in the audience...ha ha ha! That movie was hard to sit through! I actually waited to see the end credits for a mention of the songs performed and if there was a soundtrack...it said there was one. There's a good clue for you to sniff out on your quest for the song, tdog...good luck and keep us posted! IP: Logged |
