All right, so I was thinking yesterday about how all of us are probably shaking with excitement and counting the days down until Aug. 27.
So that got me thinking, what's the last album you had to have so bad you bought it on it's release day?

Okay, since it's my topic I'll go first.
I can remember two specifically, but not which order they came in, so I'll just list both.
1. Rufus Wainwright - Poses
After falling in love with his first album (which first caught my eye at the library and triggered the memory of that Gap commercial he did years ago) I had to hear more. He came through well with an excellent sophomore CD.

2. Semisonic - All About Chemistry
I have to admit I've always been a huge Semisonic fan. Having seen them in concert many times, I'm always hungry to hear whatever they put out. (Plus they're Minnesota born and raised like me. You gotta support your local scene right?) Their first CD, Great Divide is excellent, but to be honest I find their work declining. Their last album I'd call just average.

Eager to hear your stories,
-Calvin

just to say I love Poses and found out about Rufus in the same way.

My List:

1. Duncan Sheik- Humming
I must have been 14 at the time, and how I found out about it was that I was actually in the mall music store looking for some silly thing and they had up posters for it and I had to get it when it came out.

2. Edwin McCain- Far From Over
Yeah I know the album tanked mostly.. in sales but I still actually like it and At the time there wasn't much new stuff comming out last June so I felt desperate for somethingI could count on bc I had liked all his other stuff too.

1) "Humming"
I was going to community college when "Humming" came out four years ago, back in the day when I always commuted to school. That day, I had a meeting to attend at 10:30 in the morning, with a Biology professor to go over some things. Of course, the meeting really was secondary to getting the CD. I had been aware for about a month that "Humming" was coming out on October 6th, and I really didn't feel like waiting all day to get the CD. So, as I drove to school, I took a side trip to the mall to get the CD. Back then, the mall opened up at 10:00, and I had arrived at 10:15, figuring that I would just walk in and get the CD. WRONG!!!! That day, of all days, the person working the morning shift at Sam Goody's was twenty minutes late, and the store didn't open until 10:20. I rushed in, picked up "Humming," payed for it, and then rushed out of the mall. At that point, I only had five minutes to get to school and to my professor's office. I was about five minutes late for my meeting, but since I got "Humming" that day, it didn't really matter.

2) "Phantom Moon"
I don't have an interesting story, as if the story abovie is interesting at all, behind getting "Phantom Moon." When it came out, I had class all day, from 11:00 in the morning until 5:30 in the evening. I had no other choice to wait until after my last class let out before heading off to the mall. Like last time, I purchased the CD at Sam Goody's, and when the I reached the counter, the worker said, "Hey, this is some great stuff. We've been playing this for most of the day, and its very good."

3) "Kid A"
I ended up getting the regular CD and the special addition CD when it came out. With "Kid A," three years separated it with "OK Computer," but it was well worth the wait.

i bought Eminem the first day it came out, his older one though. I bought Humming and phantom Moon the first day they came out (both at Best Buy). Usually I don't do that, it's with very few artists that I do.

I tend to rush out to buy the music I really love on the release day or else I never seem to buy it...

Amanda Marshall - Everybody's got a story
Moulin Rouge II
Garth Brooks - Scarecrow
I have already pre-ordered John Mayer's Inside Wants Out
Sarah McLachlan - Remixed (that was a while ago)
Duncan - PM (I think the guy at the music store thought I was a freak, because it came out a week later here and I stopped by everyday just to see if he hid it from me, he had not idea when it was being released here)

Sadly though Daylight comes out the same day as the Dixie Chicks new one (yeah I know everyone else is going who cares, but I have had the Dixie Chicks song in my head since I first heard it) and I am not exactly in the financial situation to buy both.

Just wanted to say how excited I was to see there were 14 replies to my topic. It's also cool to see that other people are familiar with Rufus. Most people I mention him to say "who?" And yes, his contribution to the Moulin Rouge Sdtk was a good one and "Instant Pleasure" from Big Daddy is a fun one too.

Hope you all keep the stories coming!

Keep your fingers crossed for a sneak peak on the Atlantic Records site. I'm not sure if they are doing it with all new releases, but when Edwin McCain's was released last year they had a preview the weekend before.

Whoever came up with that buzztone promotion should get a big pat on the back. For smaller market areas who won't get to hear the song on the radio it will bring more attention to Duncan. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to send the email to our local radio stations?

First off, Wildsea. That is a brilliant idea. I wish I had thought of that.

As for buying on the first day, the only one I did that for was "Phantom Moon". I had a few hours in between school and having to meet a bus to go up to Denver for the high school basketball playoffs. I got the car so I could go over right after school and pick it up. Then I took it on the bus with me and listened to it. I just was in a catatonic state, emersed in the music as we rolled up the highway. And it was great after the game because we lost and it was very relaxing to listen to "Phantom". Almost made me feel better about losing.

When I bought Phantom Moon, I went to Tower Records on Monday night at Midnight to take advantage of their "Midnight Madness" of new releases. I convinced my boyfriend to go with me, hoping it would be a cool opportunity to potentially meet Duncan Sheik fans in Boston. Umm...was I ever wrong. Guess what other albums were released on that night?? The Backstreet Boys, Dave Matthews Bands, and I even think a Wu Tang album was droppin'! It was insane!! I've never seem so many young girls that excited, that late at night.

Well, by the time got to the counter, I assumed I wasn't the first person to ask for Duncan's album, there had to be 50 people on-line in front of me. Well, again, I was oh-so-wrong. The guy had no idea what album I was talkin' about. He had to get another worker to verify that it was REALLY released this day. After a few minutes, he pulled it from a cart to his own suprise. "Well, huh.. we do got it. Umm, ahhh, here ya go!"

I was the first person to buy his album in all of BOSTON!! Craaaazy

BTW-- I adore Rufus Wainwright too. Instant Pleasure off the Big Daddy soundtrack is a gem! That song rocks like NO OTHER! If you're a Rufus fan and haven't heard this song, you must check it out. I can even send it to ya if you can't get it! IM me at: (AIM) aveigh18

Since I am in New Orleans, and the Duncan Sheik CD Phantom Moon was released on Mardi Gras day, I couldn't buy it until Wednesday. Virgin Megastore was closed for Mardi Gras, like everywhere else around here.

Looking forward to Daylight. It's coming out the same day as Coldplay's latest album: A Rush of Blood to the Head. Coincidence? I think not. This is going to be a day I won't forget in music history.

Additionally, Track 6 of the Coldplay CD is called.... Daylight.

Third Eye Blind's new cd is called Crystallballer. I'm very excited to get it as well. Duncan is first all the way, but 3EB is next in line.

"Phantom Moon" was the last I can remember. Now "Daylight" and "The Wraith" by ICP are the ones. Anybody else into ICP??? Rufus is also very cool. "Evil Angel" is my favorite song.

Okay, the very last album I bought on it's release date was Wilco's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". I saw them in concert that day too and it was amazing.

I too, remember buying Humming and Phantom Moon on their "birthday". I bought Humming right after some night course I was taking. I walked out of the music store, straight into the nearby Starbucks, bought a coffee and ripped that sucker open. I chilled out there and read the lyrics before catching a bus home.

I bought Phantom Moon at this High Fidelity type record store called, Tom's Tracks. They knew who Duncan was and what label he was on, earning my respect immediately. But the first copy I recieved was defective and I had to exchange it for another one. I panicked a bit but was okay soon after.

I also bought "kid A" and "Amnesiac" on their birthdays as well.

just a couple more weeks everybody.......
