As I wander around the web, more and more frequently stumbling across banner ads, play lists, and netizen comments about "On a High," I wondered: Are we donuts ready to share Duncan with the world? While I'm by no means an expert, something about Daylight screams "breakthrough." Of course, Duncan's had his huge hit in "Barely Breathing," but a sustained presence in the average music fan's consciousness has been elusive. I think those of us who've been fans for a while sometimes become somewhat possessive of our brilliant little secret. It's an odd mixed feeling, I suspect rooted in the urge to stay ahead of the pop-culture game. Of course we want Duncan to be wildly successful and influence the world as he has us, but at the same time, I feel something close to bitterness at a music-listening public who just now embraces an artist who has been making amazing contributions for years. There's probably also some fear in me that once Duncan hits it big (which we're all expecting, of course), he'll sell out and become too POP pop. That's paranoia speaking of course, since I have complete faith in our Duncan's musical grounding and desire to speak to his hardcore, longtime fans. ![]() Am I off my rocker here, or do you Donuts out there know what I'm saying? I thing I find myself thinking about is that, with the fame, Duncan will probably become a little less accessible to his fans. It's wonderful that he is so willing to meet with people after the shows, but when he's performing for larger audiences (hopefully) that may not be possible. Sad for the true, longtime fans. It's like we have our own secret oasis, that we truly care about and want to keep pure, that's about to be overrun. I know what you mean about mixed feelings! Mally IP: Logged |

I know what you guys mean. I wish Duncan all the success he deserves, but the selfish part of me wants him all to myself. ![]() Duncan seems like such a down-to-earth guy, I don't think he'll change (but what do I know?). Tina IP: Logged |

Im not too worried about How duncan will act .. its more about who will show up at the shows.. i have only been to 1 and i must say it was all devoted amazing fans.. i just hope he doesnt go too mainstream that he will have to refrain from meeting everyone at the ends of shows because of the amount of people and i just dont want teenyboppers screaming and not truly feeling engulfed by his amazing music... i would hate if our experience was altered because of people who only like one song but then again when i think about it,. it would kick for him to get a new bunch of people.. cool people.. who just never knew he was out there.. i honestly have no dought about duncan changing.. he will stay true Sus IP: Logged |

I think we all are thinking the same kind of thoughts. I want Duncan succeed how he wants to, not how people think of success. And as long as Duncan can stay true to the kind of music he feels comfortable making. That is what really matters I think. He can handle it I think. Crystal ~~~~++++~~~~ IP: Logged |

I don't think we have anything to worry about, guys. After listening to Daylight, I believe that Duncan has stayed true to his musical abilities in every way possible. Yes, the new album is a bit more pop than the others, but truthfully, I don't think Duncan will sell out. With Daylight, he has managed to alter his music for a more mainstream audience while still making sure that his music appeals to us hardcore fans. I think that he will become a bit more noticed, but not to the point where there will be no meet and greets or stadiums packed with teenyboppers chanting his name ![]() Cheers, IP: Logged |

I hear ya. Although I only discovered Duncan's music early this year, it seems wierd to know that so many people who might not appreciate his music the way we do will be taking it in. At the same time I wish Duncan the recognition and success he deserves. And I'm confident that he'll stay true to his music, especially now that I'm not holding my breath to hear "Daylight" (definately not the pop extraveganza some of us feared). IP: Logged |

I was actually just speaking of the same thing recently when i was thinking about duncan's success. I remember a time when I saw matchbox twenty at a small place and no one knew who they were and actually got rob thomas's autograph. I believe this is his break-through time. He has put a great piece of work out and potentially if it is marketed correctly (which Humming was not by Atlantic Records!), he will find success and praise he has deserved for the last 6 years. He did receive alot of praise for the Phantom Moon however. I still believe Duncan will stay true to quest for perfection (his off-air comments during the taping of Live at the Lounge demonstrates he wants all of his music to be without any mistakes) and he will stay humble and true to making quality music.
