Hey fellow fans, the tonight show just came on, and I'm excitingly waiting for Duncan's performance. I'm not a tonight show fan, but I can get through it tonight to see Mr. Sheik. Guys, let me know how you like the performance?

I bet Duncan was pretty nervous doing a song with that kind of production level live on National TV. All in all...Im happy. Im converting the video RIGHT NOW

oh, just FYI, it was Duncan on acoustic guitar (12-string I think), playing what seemed to be rhythm on the chorus. There was a lead guitar and bass guitar part, a drummer, and a keyboard player.

I thought it was pretty good, but I agree, his guitar needed turned up a bit.
But man, am I fucking psyched for this new record!

yeah, he did seem a little nervous, but he sounded good. this was actually the first time i've heard "on a high" and i didn't think it was bad at all. it's kinda catchy... i'm going to be singing that song the rest of the night

Hmmm....I'm really curious to see it now, especially after your negative reaction...did Jay interview him after the song? I still have a while to go before it comes on here (getting tired of waiting!)

nope, no time for interview, just a "good job" and a smile and laugh from Duncan. he was definitely nervous...I think he knows that this song is very important to his career (at least w/ Atlantic)

I thought it was great. I remember Duncan saying one time that he plays the rhythym guitar because he wants to concentrate on his singing when he plays live. Don't be disappointed. Duncan is awesome live and I cant wait to see him. Now I really cant wait until the end of August.

In response to the boring part, Duncan would have a hard time singing and pulling off the electric guitar parts...plus electric just doesn't seem like Duncan's gig. The song didn't call for an acoustic to be played. Other than his voice being a little weak, I think the band nailed the performance. As a nearly 10 year musician myself, I enjoyed it. As a huge Duncan fan, I really enjoyed it!

Er, excuse me, the song didn't call for an acoustic to be played except during the chorus. And it was a 12 string, so I was thrilled.

i'm watching it for the second time...

my initial reaction always seems to be harsh.

Still, the band was great, no doubt. But I'm more interested in what Duncan is doing. I don't mind that he plays rhythm, but it would be nice to at least hear what the heck he's playing. True, he's acoustic bred, but he played non-acoustic guitars for multiple songs like Wishful Thinking, End Of Outside, Nothing Special and Rubbed Out. In any event, I'm still very excited for the album, just not overly thrilled by this performance

I think I was mostly disappointed by the fact that Duncan had such a small guitar role in the song when I really imagined him rocking out to it.

Well, I sent a message to my chapter chief to announce this appearance to the Houston SGI membership. Hope I wasn't the only one to stay up this late--GAWD I'm tired. Have been helping a Women's Division with a job search.

Hmmmm. . .it's Duncan all right. . .nice tune, lovely voice, catchy, might even get radio airplay (which will be wonderful, IMHO, with the current wave of lead singers who sound sick on seafood.) I will get the CD as soon as I can find it. Duncan, Honey, you look as good as you did when I saw you last year, but thankfully, with more hair. (Don't take that the wrong way--I'm dating a very wonderful Christian man.) Um, guys, you looked like a garage band! I hate to sound like an old lady, but the rest of the band needed a haircut REAL bad! Y'all Looked PALTRY standing with Jay and that loudmouth in suits! No offense, guys, but really--if you didn't have good music. . .

Nice job, I think, and I look forward to seeing the CD and maybe. . .another concert. This time I'll take my guy instead of my girlfriends and HE can enjoy the music too.

BTW, I have a picture of me with Duncan on my desk at work, and the enlargement is still hanging on the wall. AAAahhhh. . .

Will keep my eyes peeled for Daylight. Thanks for the notice of the appearance, Webmaster, and Duncan, thanks for the music.

ok, my last comment for now on this...he started a little slow, IMO, but he picked it up toward the end and got more into it (i.e. loosened up). I hope he gets more chances to perform the song on national TV

I definitely liked the performance. I think that Duncan was a little nervous (but absolutely a cutie).
From a marketing perspective, His image will sell him to the masses, but from a fan's perspective (like me), I love his vocals, and I'm definitely buying the cd. I'm so excited.

I am only hosting the data with a little server computer in my living room. I dont have much badwidth (15Kb/sec upload) though I am on a 1.5Mbit cable connection. I dont have a line on space that I could host videos from. If anybody knows of a good cheap/free place to host media files let me know.

The video might also be downloading VERY slowly because there are lots and lots of people downloading it right now. When its not so congested, the file will flow more freely.

Hehe. I should have guessed--- my server has been bombarded!

I am working on some alternative hosting options as we speak. (buying some)

HeRunsAway might be able to help out with some server space too. Sweet.

I believe the performance went well and Duncan's nervousness was sweet. Also, I love his crazy hair... you never know what he'll 'do' next. and i had no idea Jeff plays keyboards.

Good job, Duncan! Good job, Jeff! Good job, everyone!

oh I am so thrilled. It almost made up for me finding out one of my favorite pitchers was traded to the Mets today. ( ) It was a good rendition. I really enjoyed it. It's been about a year and a half since I last saw him on t.v. I am so anxious about the new cd it is crazy. All in all, thumbs up.

Loved it--taped it--and will be watching it again tomorrow!(I stayed up late to see him, so no time to watch it again now) I thought he looked and sounded great, although with the hair he had this "Carson Daly" thing going on--but it's Duncan, so I can live with that! Can't wait for the album to drop..I know it will be great

Thanks Tdoglovin! I'd never seen Duncan perform before, I'd just seen pictures and listened to the cds. He really lived up to my expectations. What an amazing person... he sends out such a peaceful vibe! I loved his performance, and he did kinda look like Carson Daly!!

This is so frustrating cause now I wanna go to his concert so bad!!!

Hey everyone,
It's been a really long time since I've posted here, but I've still kept an eye on things!
I ripped the sound from the performance last night and encoded it to mp3. Here's the link:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/simpymeli/bt/duncan%20sheik%20-%20on%20a%20high%20[live%2031%20August%202002].mp3

Right click and save that mofo. My apologies for any scratches or anything; my bro's tv capture card was being temperamental last night. Enjoy!

I have only heard 'on a high' twice and neither time could I get through the whole thing, but I watche Duncan last night and I have to say I enjoyed it so much more the way he did it last night. It seemed slower, lower pitch, not so teenybopperish. Plus I love the fact that Duncan doesn't feel the need to be flashy just cos he's on the tele. I too am anxiously awaiting the album's release and hearing what else the man has come up with.

Awesome job ripping that mp3.

If any of you havent already...there is a CD quality mp3 available at http://teamj.no-ip.org/tdog/music/OnaHigh-DuncanSheik.mp3
that I ripped not long ago. No scratches and full frequency response. It also has the electronic instruments in it (dubbed the DustBuster sound)

Well I thought that he was great. The song was cool and Duncan was awesome. Duncan is always nervous when he performs, so last night was no different.

It was so cool to see him on TV!

Hey all. Am I the only one who was not digging Duncan's performance on Leno?? I thought it was kind of awkward and not his best. I've seen him do so much better, and I was a little disappointed. Maybe it's because I'm so used to seeing him do the whole acoustic thing and it was a shock to hear electrical stuff in his live music. Of course, I'm still buying the CD and attending his shows in the future, but I wasn't feeling anything from the Leno performance. I taped the performance and will watch it again tonight. Hopefully, I'll feel differently after watching it a second time.

Cheers,
Sam
