I have been listening to Duncan for about 5 years. He's inspired my music more than a normal person can understand. I figured it was time to ask this and state it. I am trying to get bands together to make a Duncan Sheik Tribute. I still need to pay royalties and ask for permission, but I am hoping they'll allow me. If I get permission, I'll try to find some bands to cover songs. I just figured since he's given me and others so much, it's time to give back. I will be trying to contact some people tonight, then going to bed, and hopefully waking up within the next few days to see an ok message. If anyone has ideas for the CD, say them! I hope to hear from everyone soon...IP: Logged |

seventhwind, hey! sounds like a sweet idea.Only problem is Duncan is still making relevant music, and is in his prime creatively. Two characteristics that bands who get tribute albums have usually lost along the way to excess. Good luck though. Hope it rocks for you! IP: Logged |

You only really need legal permission if you intend to market and distribute the resulting compilation. When I started tinkering with this idea w/the members of this message board, the CD would just have gone to Duncan himself. Whoever it got passed onto from that point would be up to Duncan. Also, when I last saw him in Chicago in late August, I mentioned if he had read about the musician's here trying to organize a tribute. He replied that he had indeed, and was rather interested in hearing it. However, he had no warnings or objections to the production of it. Later IP: Logged |

you actually not only have to market it but you also have to make over $5000 before it becomes a copyright infringement in question. good luck, i'd love to lay some vocals for someone who plays but does not sing, maybe they could record something and send me the DAT and i could lay the vocals. kind of a long shot, but it truly is a dream to record a quality track and who metter to mimic? so if anyone reads this and wants to fulfill a dream with an "idaho-an" ( you know from idaho? over by oregon... in the usa... okay forget it, but i swear it's a state and NO we don't produce the most potatos... i think that would be washington?) anyhow... email me @ hummingalong79@hotmail.com IP: Logged |

If interested, I could record Rubbed Out if someone else could sing it. I don't think it'd be that difficult to sneak into a studio. I can do all guitar, bass, and drums. Piano would be difficult, but maybe I could find a friend to pass it off. Or I can definitely easily record a copy of it acoustically. However, I can't sing worth crap, so If you or anyone else would be interested in singing, let me know. I have an mp3 recorded of me playing the song, just with no vocals, so someone message me on AIM if they want to hear it, screen name FransUNC. Scott Frans by the way, I don't get around here often to check posts, so if you show interest, you'll have to email me or instant message me IP: Logged |

Well, for my contributions, I could do a piano/vocal version of She Runs Away. I'll put up a link to an MP3 once I actually get it recorded. I can sing Rubbed Out if you can supply the backing. Email me at Toriswinter@hotmail.com if you're interested. IP: Logged |
