oh kids, definitely 'place to be.' for those who haven't listened to them pink moon ablum in awhile here are the lyrics. enjoy!

When I was younger, younger than before
I never saw the truth hanging from the door
And now I'm older see it face to face
And now I'm older gotta get up clean the place.

And I was green, greener than the hill
Where the flowers grew and the sun shone still
Now I'm darker than the deepest sea
Just hand me down, give me a place to be.

And I was strong, strong in the sun
I thought I'd see when day is done
Now I'm weaker than the palest blue
Oh, so weak in this need for you.

Nick Drake is great. I feel kind of guilty because I downloaded a lot of his songs about a year ago and they're still on my computer and that's how I listen to them. I definetly need to buy his albums.

Does anyone know of a Nick Drake link for music bites? Probably not...it was a very long time ago. I've been interested but have only heard Duncan's versions of River Man and From the Morning; both of which I love. But I hate to spend money on a CD without hearing any of it first, though "Pink Moon" looks like a winner. Anyone care to share what they think Nick Drake's best album is??
Thanks. Shari

My favorite songs are: northern sky, river man, time has told me, one of these things first, thoughts of mary jane, cello song... I still have not purchased Pink Moon, but very soon now.

Hey, who here found out about Nick through Duncan?? I know I did.

regards,

Robert

Wolfspirit,

We have downloaded Nick Drake from Napster, and AG Satellite. All of the songs are great. I am not sure how to send you the mp3 file, but I will ask my hubby and see if he knows how, he is the computer wiz around here!!! I'll keep you posted, but just as a note, if you love Duncan's music, odds are you will love any of Nick Drake's stuff....

Will be in touch.
Carly

That's so sweet Carly! Thanks. Now we have an MP3 player coming, but not here yet. I wouldn't know how to do that either...but it would be nice to get a sampling before buying. I'm picky. And cheap
*in edit - we just got the word that our MP3 player has been shipped!*

Hey everyone! I have not posted much but check in regularly (at work mostly, ha ha)to see what you all are up to. Great fun reading all your posts.

I got into Nick through Duncan as well, and have Pink Moon, and Five Leaves Left. Nick's music is some of the most beautiful I have ever come across, and I am hooked. My favorite would have to be Place to Be, and Which Will...and Cello Song...who am I kidding I can't pick just one!!

It's great that we have this forum to talk about Duncan's music as well as Nick's...it has obviously enriched our lives and that is what great music does.

Peace to everyone!

"Time Has Told Me" is pretty much at the top of my list. I actually have two different versions -- one from 'Five Leaves Left' and the other as a cover on Kelly Willis' album 'What I Deserve.' But I gotta say that Nick's version is a little more intoxicating...or so it seemed during a date I had when it was playing in the background.

Picking favorite Nick Drake songs is like a commercial for Lays Potato Chips, you can't pick just one. Here are some of my favorite Nick Drake songs:

Northern Sky: The song is so beautiful in my opinion; in fact, its one of the most touching songs I've ever heard. Knowing Nick's eventual demise, when I hear the hope in his lyrics, I just sit there and think, "Man, if things could've gone in a positive direction for him..." "Northern Sky" ranks up there as one of the greatest love songs written in my opinion, not that my word means anything.

Fly: I think both released versions of "Fly," which you can find on "Bryter Layter" and "Time of No Reply," are hauntingly beautiful. Nick may never have had the strongest voice in technical terms, but on "Fly," there's a complete helplessness that is eloquently captured in his singing. His voice and lyrics blended so well together on "Fly" and many other songs in the Nick Drake catalogue.

River Man: I think "River Man" is a great song, and the song has a special place inside me because this is the song that got me acquainted with Nick's music. Of course, I can thank Duncan for that one. The guitar work is magnificent, and I really love the tunning Nick uses here, not to mention the string arrangement. Of course, I also love the lyrics which added an air of mystery to the tune.

Obviously, there are other songs that I consider favorite Nick Drake tunes, but I'll close for now.

Richard
