To All Out There, I have great admiration for Duncan, his music, his message(s), basically for his art. However, I am not familiar with Nick Drake. I know, I know, I should look him up on the 'net' and find out who this gentleman is/was. I also know that a "BIG" reference is made to him in the song 'That Says It All' from Humming. Call me ignorant, but what is the significance of this person in pop music history, and in Duncan's life? Aside from this, I can truly say I understand what Duncan say's when he refers to darkness as beauty. I too love the darkness, not always, but I can bathe and lose myself in it's comfort and kindness. Well, enough philo. jabbering. Please get back to me (ANYONE) and help me out. I would like to get someones perspective on this. Thank you much. Best wishes to all who read this. IP: Logged |

Hi. I've actually just been getting to know more about Nick Drake also. I just barely picked up his albums "Five Leaves Left" and "Pink Moon" and so far I'm real glad I got them. I read an interview with Duncan somewhere that said he found out about Nick Drake from someone at Atlantic (can't remember who) and was blown away because that's what he said he was trying to do musically and some guy thirty years ago already did it. Here's a web site that's got a bunch of info about him, www.algonet.se/~iguana/DRAKE/DRAKE.html. As far as Duncan's view about him, the best thing to do would be to read as many interviews you can find. Go here actually, http://members.nbci.com/Eurydice1/ . The site is called Strumming, and she has a bunch of good stuff including interviews. Hope this helps. Take care. -Aaron IP: Logged |

Dear Aaron, Thanks so much for the help. I really enjoy this forum here at Duncan's website. The mood seems very comfortable and non-confrontational. As far as Duncan's music . . . boy is it a saving grace. There are so many true "negatives" out in the world. People killing one another for reason such as: religion, status, money, on and on. In this world of mayhem and disorder, we are surronded by the darkness and the light. I believe Duncan has definitely tapped into the light and beauty within the darkness. His music delivers terrific depth without hate, ignorance, vengence, or pettiness. I truly believe that the ends justifies the means. Thank heavens for musicians like Duncan. I believe we need more people like him to explore musical avenues to save us from so many trivial aspects that bombard ALL of us everyday. Many blessings to you always. Dominic IP: Logged |

Some more referneces of Duncan and Nick Drake. Duncan put out a promotional 'album' called "Humming along" where he does 4 cover songs. One of these songs, River Man was originally Nick's. This song was the first one on the album(If you would call it that). IP: Logged |

ddsavedra-If you want to learn how Duncan is able to tap "into the light and beauty within the darkness" (as you said so very well) check out the Buddhism he practices at www.sgi-usa.com. You can find a peace that is indescribable. IP: Logged |
