Mine - from Alibi

"these alcoholic afternoons are getting in the way"

I know it is not very insightful and he has many more that much more thought provoking but at the time in my life when I heard it, it was profound for me. . .

What's yours?

My fave line (OK its two lines) from Humming would have be
"Maybe these are wonders...more than we may know Well, I'd hate to steal your thunder..."
Love the poetry of it.

From Nichiren - "every holocaust has meaning, not etched in stone but drawn in sand". That is INCREDIBLE. Period. The lyric has always seemed so strikingly beautiful and truthful to me.

I have two:
"You ain't nothing special, you're no more celestial than anyone else, as far as I can tell."

&

"Welcome to another day. It don't seem that different cause nothing has changed."

From Humming, "Nothing Special", "You get laid because you're arty, then wonder why it never lasts"

Ah, isn't it the truth!...

From "In Between".....'So much better when you run your fingers through my hair...humming like the air..' That one kind of makes my mind, uh, wander, shall we say!! I also like from "Everyone, Everywhere" the line, 'Perfect nature, deepest wisdom lies within everyone'...It is really hard to choose a favorite.

"Judge the books by their surfaces"

From "Foreshadowing":

"Anything can happen, I don't believe in fate.... I wont try to convince you, 'cause it's gettin' kinda late"

I really like that one.....

I mystified the simple life/I covered up with conciousness/I saw myself and broke it down/'til nothing more was left...

This is me. Right now. Where I'm at in my life.

"I'm so much better when you run your fingers through my hair, humming like the air/ I wish that I could hold you and I'm sorry if I seem . . . so inbetween."

It's gorgeous. It manages to blur the line between longing, loving, lusting and everything, well, in between.

"Saints & Sinners, losers .. winners, masters and their slaves/ the more you hide one or the other, the closer to your grave"

"I am with you/no longer alone/'cause when I am with you/it feels like I'm home"

"O Christ, its gonna sound like I'm agreeing with the most ultraboring idea/of pop psychological western goodo's who haven't gotten lucky in years"

first fave:
My parting shot is just to say: Will you hold the reins?
from "Foreshadowing: Over and Out"
My goodness. Every time I hear this, I just melt a little. It's something in the delivery--very tender and very gentle and very, very sexy. I love that little moment where he lowers his voice and asks the question. <sigh>

second fave:
every holocaust has meaning, not etched in stone but drawn in sand
because the play on words is absolutely brilliant. "holocaust"--"hollow cause" The way Duncan sings it, you can't tell the difference, and I am convinced that that is on purpose, to convey that even holocausts, which are hollow causes, must be recontextualized and thought of in a way that can allow us to learn from them, and endow them with real, beneficial meaning.

Man, gotta love the Duncster. :-)

***sorry guys, this UBB code is confusing! aiee! :-)

The "Duncanism" that makes me laugh is the whole "pop pyschological western gurus who haven't got lucky in years" ( what would Deepak Chopra say if he heard that?). Duncan is a funny guy.

Cheerio,

Every lyric from Nothing Special hits the nail on the head. It's all so true and that's why I love it!!! Duncan sure knows how to get the message across. Every time I run across a person who thinks he/she is better than me, i just think of that song and laugh my ass off. I get the best of them and they don't even realize it!! Thanks Duncan

Cheers,
Sam

All of Bite your Tongue, I love it, it makes me think of people I know who feel the need to endlessly complain about everything in life...But Nothing Special really gets to me, especially the lines, "Well you should know you aren't that pretty and you haven't got a clue" and "half the critics always hate you so you get horribly depressed" I can't help but think that is how I behave at times, yet it adds this humor, that leaves me laughing at myself.

"The Heart is known, now"
The Wilderness, Phantom Moon
"To let me sing without a care"
Mr. Chess, Phantom Moon
Well, I suppose they aren't really Duncanisms. Cause Steven wrote them. No offense what so ever to Mr. Sater, I love you man!
So here's some DUNCANisms!
"Yes I've heard the world has conspired to steal away you god given rights!" and "Next you'll sue them for abandoning you!"
Bite Your Tongue, Humming
"We always want what we never get"
That Says It All, Humming

Peace

It's all good. If Duncan had written Mirror in the Heart, that would be my favorite Duncanism. But since it isn't, that's my favorite Stevenism!
Peace
