This sounds dumb, but I just wanted to say the lyrics to "Nothing Special" describe so many of my musician friends. I'm not trying to stereo type musicians, being one myself, I'm just amazed at how well Duncan Sheik described it. The whole cd is GREAT! IP: Logged |

I really like this song, especially the line "Sure enough they want your picture - And your deepest point of view - You should know you aren't that pretty - And you haven't got a clue". That cracks me up every time I hear it... *Courtney* IP: Logged |

My favorite lyrics are "You get laid because you're arty, then wonder why it never lasts" I know so many people like that. IP: Logged |

I think the song must be about himself or a good musician friend of his because that song is so personal. The only reason I would suspect it was about himself is because of the last line "I am the snake who bites his own tail" IP: Logged |

Totally agree with you all. I too have a lot of musician friends that are semi-professional, and they absolutely fit the bill with that song. LOL! ~Amber IP: Logged |

I just read the tv guide chat thing and the last question asked Duncan if the song "Nothing Special" referred to him at all and he said the song was pretty "self referential". I guess that answers that! IP: Logged |

yes, but if, in fact, it is about someone else, Duncan would not be one to point the person out. It could be kinda his own little joke about someone in particular or a generalization about other musicians - but he is way too poised and would prefer to have people think it is about himself. I think the reason he says "I am the snake who bites his own tail." is because he is also a musician - you really shouldn't step on other musician's toes. It's like a being a member of a club and never telling outsiders the club's secrets. That's my own personal take. . . Anyone care to refute this?? IP: Logged |

Good morning, CelticLady! The symbol of the snake stands for many things in general. It is a symbol of reincarnation sometimes because of the way a snake sheds many skins. When you see a symbol of a snake thats curved toward the sky, it could mean the journey towards a higher spiritual plane. When the snake is coiled around itself, it symbolizes tension. A snake biting its own tail symbolizes enlightenment. Personally, I think Duncan was talking about himself, having coming to terms with who he was, he wrote a great and honest song.
