I just moved to London 3 weeks ago from Michigan. Yesterday I decided to take a walk through the heart of the City, Trafalgar Square, on my way to the park. I took a seat on the ledge of one of the fountains and remembered there was a song from Phantom with Trafalgar Square in the lyrics. As I hummed it in my head trying to remember the words, the reference to the mermaids suddenly clicked. I always wondered what mermaids had to do with this place.
So, thanks Steven, for the memory. It made me smile to be there inside your song.
