hard to know where to begin... first off, let me say i'm personally convinced it must be drifter in that picture facing the song list (prepping his interp of time and good fortune, don't you think?). requiescat... yes, well, requiescat in pace -- may he/she rest in peace. it is indeed a prayer for the dead. actually, that final suite of songs on the album -- requiescat, lo and behold, and the wilderness -- forms a part of another new play of mine: river children. it's a play about the yearning for a child, and also about the birth and death of an imaginary child. mr. chess is indeed the theme for umbrage. and tracks 2-l0 of the album will serve as the soundtrack for a film version of that play. finally, why spring awakening? because i too love spring awakening, and the text seemed to cry out for the haunted romantic strains of duncan's music... later, steven IP: Logged |

Many thanks for the further enlightenment, Steven. From where do you draw your inspiration? *Courtney* IP: Logged |

Steven--thank you for the information. Just wondering about your comments re: the film version of Umbrage. Is that in the works or is it something you're planning on doing in the future? Sounds fascinating, and I'd love to see it. Also, I read where a Phantom Moon II of sorts collaboration was being planned. I just wanted to tell you that I would very much look forward to that. Your lyrics combined with Duncan's vocals are just extraordinary. I can't thank you enough for Phantom Moon. It's just about all I want to listen to these days. Each time I think I have a favorite song on the disc, I rediscover another one, and then it becomes the favorite. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. IP: Logged |

Steven- thanks for the info - unfortunatley, i am way down in texas. i have been studying Buddhism for a while - formal Buddhism, until i learned of the SGI. I recently joined - found the number in the phone book - and i am LOVING it. it's great being able to associate with people who share your beliefs. so, only the ny shows, eh? i can't make it to ny, but i am going to the shows, in atlanta, nashville, and of course - houston. no chance you'll be at any of those shows? i think it would be really great to meet you. how about if i cross my fingers but try not to hold my breath, and chant on it for good measure... think that will help you to travel? thanks for the response! -angee *** sorry typo queen edited a spelling error. Hi Steven! It's almost been a month since you've posted this but, I don't have my own computer and I use one at my public library or a friend's house. Right now, I'm housesitting and I've been going through the whole website. Thank you for collaborating with Duncan Sheik. He is by far my favorite musician. The way he sang your lyrics and wrote the music was great. Your lyrics pack a lot of emotion and I respect anyone who could put feelings into words. Hopefully I'll see your plays and movie. I'll be looking out. cheerio, amy IP: Logged |

Hey Steven, I have no idea if you even hang out on this board anymore? It's getting harder and harder to "hide out" around here! My hunch is that you do, just as a more silent presence these days. Peace and Wisdom, [This message has been edited by Bodhisattva (edited July 13, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Bodhi, Where did you find "Umbrage?" I believe I have seen references made to A. Chekov floating around here somewhere. What are you studying at NYU? Just curious, Another lover of Literature, Philosophy, Art, Music, Spirituality, Life Michele IP: Logged |

Hey Wuzzy, Actually I found my copy of "Umbrage" on the street at one of those clandestine book sale tables that flank Washington Square Park. I'm studying Humanities for a Master's Degree that I will hopefully be completing in Spring of 2002. It all depends on how much time my thesis will take me. I'd like to say 6 months, but I know myself. I will probably take a bit longer with it. My subject areas are Literature, History, and Political Theory (Interdisciplinary Studies). My specialization is in Cultural Studies focusing specifically on 19th Century American Fiction and Poetry and how they were influenced by political and social thought, specifically Nationalism and Pragmatism. Boring, huh? Anyway, what about you? You seem like a deep-thinking and intelligent soul. I have really enjoyed a lot of your topics here on the MB. Are you a student or scholar type, or are you more of an independent thinker? You know, no real need for institutional settings. What are you all about Wuzz? And where are you? Are you one of the West Coasters or are you here in the East? IP: Logged |

Bodhi, I'm on th East Coast as are you. I am a student as well, not Graduate yet though. I'm going back in Sept. for Psychology, and hopefully Elem. Education....(combined) But my first and foremost love is Music and thats really why I'm here. I just love music. My whole life has been music. Like my every breath. (sp) Tired of going to Websters.com at this time of night. I am a Thinker.... very sensitive and compassionate. Let's not leave out gentle/caring. I have enjoyed your posts as well. They have been equally intelligent. It's nice to hear your words, [This message has been edited by Blackwuzzy (edited July 12, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Thanks Wuz, I appreciate your words too. ** And again for Mr. Sater - So am I crazy on the Chekov influence or what? It came through rather strongly to me. Is he someone you admire? Get back to me when you can on this one. Peace and Wisdom, [This message has been edited by Bodhisattva (edited July 13, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Your wish is my command Wuz. But why did you want that number deleted? And I will tell you my age gladly, but just out of curiousity, how old do you think I am just judging by my posts alone? I like to play this game on the internet because it is really such a high-tech masquerade ball. I once convinced someone that I was a six foot tall redheaded stripper named Ginger! You would think the unrealistic name would be a red flag, but I was believed. Too Funny. ![]() p.s. Since we are conversing on the Phantom Moon section, what is your favorite song from the CD, and please tell me why? Mine is "Mouth on Fire" because the instrumentation seems very powerful and alive, whereas many of the other songs have a wistful and somber tone. How about you Wuzzy? Bodhi, I will have to think about that question. I love "Mouth On Fire" because of its very passion and power (the way Duncan sings it), but I may have to say, "Far Away," for its simplicity, expressive tenderness and beauty. My thoughts change though. Sometimes, I think maybe "A Mirror In The Heart," because of its spiritual meaning and the way Duncan sings it with such conviction. I'll be on vacation for a bit.... but will write when I return. Stay well and peace to you then Bodhi...... Goodnight. Steven, I still would love to know about the Chekov question. Real influence? Yes? No? Maybe? What about other dramatic influences? I'm kind of an Ibsen girl myself. And Tennessee Williams impresses me too. How about you? Peace, IP: Logged |
