I am overly dramatic. I am a poet. I am a fantasy-genre enthusiast, I am a dreamer, and I am a wannabe musician. However, the Fates did not grace me with the ability to make music, as talent and dextrous ability has escaped me my entire life, much to my dismay. I was not born with a singer's voice, or a musician's hands. I was born with a soul that aches for love of music, and a will to make it. I have found that I cannot, and even though I mourn that loss I take comfort in the music that I can HEAR, the music that can make me feel like, even without my contribution, music can enlighten the world. Music can be liquid poetry. I thank you, dear Duncan, for your music. I can listen to it with my eyes closed and be taken somewhere else. I know you love it too- I can hear it in your voice. Keep loving it, for as Keats so eloquently put it, Beauty is Truth. You tell the truth. (and thank you to your poet friend as well- poetic music breathes more deeply with a poet's fire in it's lyrics.) With love, (another Brown poet) IP: Logged |

Ah! You are a step ahead of me, I fear. I have been listening to the music alone, not treating the work as poetry. I missed allusions. I shall have to go back to the lyrics... oh, but this is fun! What else have I missed? You know, it's so amazing that poetry could be translated into music so well. I wonder at how each poem was able to take on a sound of it's own enough to make a song distinguishable from the rest. I am loving this album. (!!) Love, Fantacia IP: Logged |

Don't ever say you were born w/o the ability to make music--apparently, you were born with one of the most important abilities! THE LYRICS. I personally know that it's a bigger pleasure to hear your words, rather than to speak them yourself (when it comes to things like this, anyway). Just try it. Find someone who WAS born with the musician's hands and voice... You'll find that your words are most welcome. IP: Logged |

I barely know what to say in reply, but that line about a "soul that aches for love of music" was so beautiful and sad I felt compelled to say something. The gift of singing, playing, and allowing music to express itself through me is more precious than breath. I believe, however, that music expresses itself in more ways than we could possibly imagine. The slow motion cascade of leaves to the ground in Autumn's dance, the wild and free laughter and screams of children on a playground, the gentle rhythm of the rain, all these things and more are music to soul. Indeed, our very essence is a rate of vibration, or music. Everyone has,and is, a gift. I believe hapiness is found in appreciating the gifts of the many facets of life, and in discovering and sharing our unique gift. There is a line I wrote in a requiem for Jeff Buckley ( "Beauty Lives") that goes "the heart knows the secret the eyes cannot see". In this world, the sunset and those who see it,or the song and those who hear it, appear to be seperate. I believe love, though, is the place in which everything is one. I'm sorry if this isn't terribly eloquent,I just had to attempt to give you something from my heart that might somehow lead you to your own gift, the truth and beauty within you. IP: Logged |

Well, I went back and looked at what I wrote late last night, and while my brain wasn't functioning/expressing very clearly, at least my heart was. I hope someone gets something from that. IP: Logged |

You don't give yourself enough credit, James... that was lovely. ![]() "The slow motion cascade of leaves to the ground in Autumn's dance, the wild and free laughter and screams of children on a playground, the gentle rhythm of the rain, all these things and more are music to soul. Indeed, our very essence is a rate of vibration, or music" <---- WOW... that's about all I can come up with to say. ![]() Yes, sometimes I wish I could sing with all the innate ability of a siren. Yes, sometimes I do long to be able to pick up a guitar and coax musical drops of joy from it. The fact is, my voice is nothing to write home about and I am all thumbs when it comes to musical instruments. Fortunately, all earthly creatures are born with an appreciation for music, and for now I am content to listen to it and draw inspiration from it when I write. As far as lyrics go- of course the music is important, but without the subtle power of lyrics, a song can lose its momentum and its impact. The most exquisite melody ever conceived can lose all of its beauty when paired with meaningless, poorly written lyrics. That is where some of my talent lies... in the words. I will never be a musician and produce lovely music for the world by my own hands, but maybe someday my writing will capture the hearts of many, making an equally powerful impact in a slightly different way. Regardless, it is important to hold close the dream, and with the wonder of a child, revel in the mere thought that someday and somehow your "what if" could ease into a reality... *Courtney* IP: Logged |

Anyone else feel like the smartest person in the world when they get someone's references? Same feeling when watching Dennis Miller. I got a H.D. Thoreau Walden reference in Mr. Chess. "Castles in the Air" IP: Logged |
