Michael's work experience ranges from major and indie label album releases to music and sound for film, television, and multimedia. He has worked with a wide variety of artists including Moby, Duncan Sheik, The Strokes, and John Cale. His film credits include I Am Sam, Girlfight and A Home at the End of the World.

Sheik is the co-creator of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening and the producer of the Spring Awakening Original Cast Album as well as self-producing much of his own work and other artists such as Holly Brook (aka Skylar Grey), Samantha Ronson, Chris Garneau. Sheik has scored several films and is currently developing stage productions of American Psycho and The Nightingale.
