I got my ears pierced when I was a baby, but naturally, I don't remember much about being a baby. So today, I went to get a second hole put in each ear and I wasn't too sure about how much it was going to hurt and all that jazz... Well anyway. It didn't hurt bad at all. But here is the thing... After I stood up from the piercing chair, my body freaked out. I broke out in cold sweats and everything started to get darker and dizzier and it was hard to walk. I came pretty close to fainting. So my question is for all of you who have piercings... has anything like this ever happened to you? I'm thinking about going and getting the cartilage at the top of my ear pierced, but after the way I felt today, I'd like to know if that was normal before I get a more painful cartilage piercing. sounds like you were pierced with a gun as opposed to needle, but I am just testin' me 3rd yaiiiii ![]() I would guess that it is a nerve thing....I nearly blacked out in anticipation of getting my navel done about 12 years ago, so, ahh, yes, it's "normal", and STUPIDLY that was with a gun. I realized my mistake (luckily the gun couldn't get too deep so it was superficial) and had it pierced properly about a year later, and never felt a thing! About 3 yr ago I went for another, this time a stud and again...nothing. In short, beware the gun. IP: Logged |

That's odd. I got my second hole in my ear a long time ago with the gun and I didn't feel dizzy or anything. Maybe you were anticipating it so much that your body just didn't know how to react. Maybe Aquagirl IP: Logged |

Yes, I got pierced with a gun. But I wasn't really anticipating anything. I did some reading up on gun piercings last night. I definitely will not get my cartilage pierced with a gun. I will go to a professional piercer with a needle. I read some nasty stuff about guns; mostly about their generally unsanitary nature and I completely regret not reading up earlier so that I could go to a respectable piercer. MsDMeanor... From what I read, guns are not supposed to be used on any body part other than ears. Some states even have regulations against it. IP: Logged |

you're right about that ericka, and even then most professsional piercers wince at knowing that guns are used on ears too! The needle is hollow, and actually removes some of the skin or cartlidge as it is pierced, which makes for quicker, more sanitary healing. The gun literally pierces the skin...like a staple. I would definitely talk to a professional piercer about getting any cartiledge pierced...won't harm to find out eh? Good luck you Brave Girlie IP: Logged |

When I got my nose pierced, this happened to me. I think it was a combination of not eating all day & anticipation. The blood was pumping and as a result, I bled a lot! The needle itself didn't hurt, but the rush of blood made me dizzy & temporarily sick to my stomach. I really wanna get my septum (sp?) pierced. That's the space in the middle of your nostrils. I have a wee tiny nose, and I think it'd look nice. Hmm, we'll see... everywhere lies within everyone, IP: Logged |

I have four holes in my lobes, and two in my left cartiledge, and one in my right, all done by gun, except the forth ones, one day I was trying to put earings in my third holes and shoved them through the skin causing forth holes (YUCK), the only one that hurt at all was the third ones, but it was not really that bad. My cartiledge did not hurt at all, it did get infected once really badly (and this was ages after it was peirced, like over a year), but I keep hoops in them and I have never had a problem since (except when a stupid hairdresser gets caught in them a yanks my ear). I am thinking of getting my navel pierced at some point, but I would for sure do that by needle. IP: Logged |

Ericka, whatever you do, don't get your cartilage done with a needle!!! Stick with the gun. I have two cartilage piercings, both done with a gun, and they didn't hurt at all. My brother's friend had his done with a needle and bitched about how much it hurt for days!!! Maybe he was making out the pain to be more than it was, but I can only go by what he said. Good luck with the piercings!!! Cheers, IP: Logged |

well, I had my ears done with a gun and didn't have a problem. I'm actually thinking about getting my cartilege done tomorrow. My sister is being a whimp, but a few weeks ago she said she wanted to get her ears pierced and would go with me to get it done. I am wary of getting anything other than my ears done. -steph IP: Logged |

i have my tongue and my navel pierced (both with a needle, can it be done any other way?). i pierced my tongue first and i really expected it to be painful, but to my surprise and relief- it was nothing. i think alot of it had to do with the person doing the piercing, he was a pro when i did my navel, i expected it to be just as painless. well i was wrong about that. the guy doing the piercing this time actually massaged the flesh above my belly button to "numb & relax" the area a bit before piercing, but it was a slower process and i could feel the needle going through my skin (ouch!). needless to say, i was dizzy and disoreinted when i stood up. i guess it all just depends on the piercer's technique and your own tolerence for pain ![]() IP: Logged |
