Spring Awakening
So previews start tomorrow at the Atlantic Theater as you may know. The show looks amazing so I hope to see some of you guys there in the next few weeks. I’ll probably be playing guitar for the show on the 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st of this month. (Even though they keep trying to kick me out of the band!)
Cheers,
DS

Dear Duncan,
I graduated college this evening at MSG. The ceremony was kind of fun, but afterwards I was totally disappointed and I got very down. Thank you once again for all of your beautiful music. How is your life?

I don’t ever log in to these things, so I don’t know how it works, but I did see Spring Awakening last night and I really wanted to leave a note to say how much I enjoyed it…I had no idea it had been written years ago and banned and such things like that. Other than that man across the way who would not stop guffawing at inappropriate times, I thought several entirely new things for the whole of the show-the contemporary music in the older setting is just perfect to capture the attention and tempers the…well, DELUGE of tragedy that encompasses much of the second act. (Should Mr. Sheik stumble upon this post; I did see you there towards the back of the theater; it’s always heartening to see a creator observing the way things have turned out. I liked that.) My friend and I have been up and down the eastern seaboard to many a Duncan show (I do miss the Downtown, even though my car locks froze in the parking lot the one time that winter, it wasn’t so bad in the spring; and my headlights did go out that drive home from Amagansett) but this was a new and different thing to have found the music in, and I was happy to have stumbled on it as I did. The show is very entertaining.

If they want you out of the band,
it’s only because they realize how
superior your fret skills are to their own.
That’s right, I said it.
Hope you’re enjoying your pseudo-time off. (do you ever rest?)
They have a “employee recommendation” display now in the music dept at the B&N. I tried to suggest WL, but you’re on promo (yay!) until Armageddon (aw!)… So that made you an illegal choice.
This saddened me, but then I ate some Oreos.
That seemed to make things better.
(Amazing the things we do in order to avoid feeling.
But that’s a discussion for another time.)
Enjoy your days not in a bus with the fellas.
Even if it is only for a few weeks.
Good luck with Spring. As with everything you touch, I’m sure this will be a thing of beauty that will sing to the hearts of many.
Much relaxing to you (I know you can do it!),
Susann

so what is this backlight records release? Anything you want to tell us about?
May 24th, 2006 at 12:56 am
duncan,
I think you’d enjoy the new book, “God Laughs and Plays: Churchless Sermons in Response to the Preachments of the Fundamentalist Right”, by my favorite author - David James Duncan.
If you’ve never had a chance to read his work, please do. You won’t be dissapointed. At least check out the synopsis at amazon. Many of the ideas put forth by yourself and others resonate with the central themes in the book.
thanks,
tbj

I love that video! And I haven’t seen it in quite a while. Thanks for posting the link. :) Love seeing all the familiar faces in the crowd….Jeffy hanging with the babes, Gerry doing his little ballerina-jig, and Dougie playing air drums. I think I also recognized Samantha Ronson(did I spell that right), and some other faces that look familiar to me. And cool tshirt….wish I could see what it says under “Hell With Whales”….. Anyway, looks like it was fun making the video.
Duncan, will there be a White Limo video? That’d be sweet.
May 30th, 2006 at 11:07 am
Ha ha! I love that video, thanks for the link. I remember I first saw it at 7 AM on VH1, my first year of college.
Some of those other videos I have not seen, so I am going to have to play catch up!
May 30th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
Topaz,
I think his shirts reads…..Hell with whales…Save me.
And I agree, we needs some white limo videos.
May 30th, 2006 at 5:44 pm
…Hell with whales…Save me.
Thanks, Allison…just got a big chuckle out of that wicked humour. :D:P
Hey DS…have loads of fun(as Rena says)…
“Enhancing The Audience Overall Experience” at the show tonight. :-)
Oh and it is getting really good reviews…cannot wait for all those official/detailed ones. Best of luck and get some rest…you crazy busy chap. :D
Cheers!

Well, all you individuals lucky enough to be in the NYC area to enjoy
Spring Awakening are making me quite envious! However, it’s no surprise that every one who has seen it, has been showering it with positive praise!
Perhaps you can work in one of the songs from Spring Awakening into the set list of your upcoming shows? :D
Looking forward to seeing you again in SF at the end of July!
:) Tammy

I think it is really awesome that Vienna Teng will be opening for Duncan when he comes to Ann Arbor! I first started listening to her music about 3 years ago. She’s brilliant! She’s somewhat similar to Tori Amos…there have been about a million comparisons between the 2. If anyone gets a chance to see Duncan while she is the opening act, you will not be disappointed!!
Thanks Duncan!! Another great choice as your opening act. See you in Ann Arbor! ;)
June 10th, 2006 at 4:49 pm
Where do you go… when you go there?
I can’t get that song out of my head.
The show was superb. Can’t wait for a soundtrack…. I hope…?
