what’s on your mind?
I’m in Spring Awakening rehearsals everyday so my focus is a bit narrow at the moment, I’m afraid. Sooooo…tell me anything interesting: this is the first ever official DS.com open thread.

Well duncan, let me be the first to post on this “open thread”. What’s on my mind? I’m reading a good book right now, “Sophie’s World” have you read it? It’s a novel about the history of philosophy written by a Norwegian author. The main character is a young teenage girl and it’s unfolding like a mystery. It’s really good and has me thinking all heavy…why are we here?, etc. I’m not a particularly religious person (not at all actually) and I like the philosophical, scientific explanations regarding the universe and life on our planet. Given everything that is happening right now in our own country I think it’s not unusual for people to be looking for meaning (other than religious). Anyway, that’s what’s on my mind since you asked. Awesome concert at the Birchmere in Feb. by the way. Heard David Poe for the first time…he’s great!

I just heard about Al Gore’s documentary on his global warming work called “An Inconvenient Truth” opening in theatres May 26th. It sounds compelling.
See you next week in Indianapolis!

Something interesting, hmmm…
Alrighty, ELBOW tomorrow @ Webster Hall(7PM). I highly recommend for some rockin’ fun time. Am hoping you are able to catch this show and ENJOY. May Guy not want to jump off the stage(’coz I won’t be there to catch him, hahaha).
Rest well and Be well, DS!

Hi Duncan,
Thank you again for an awesome show at the Avalon Theater in Easton, MD. Thank you for signing my cassette. :)
So…..whats on my mind? Well, one thing seems to be the way we never seem to have enough time in a day. I feel like I waste more time every day and unfortunately we can never recapture that time back. I spend 9+ hours a day staring at a computer screen in a job I thought I would like-some days I do-some days I don’t. Do you ever feel like all of your efforts just amount to a heap of wasted time and nothing good accomplished?
Anyway………..sorry about the ranting, but here’s something interesting…
I read in an article yesterday that 3 rare coins have been put into circulation. Three pennies, the oldest dating from 1908, have been put into circulation by a coin collector, the most valuable one is worth $1000. I better start checking my change a little more closely now! :)
Hope you have a good day! Paradisestranger

Hi, Duncan!
I am very happy to see that you’re traveling to Louisville next week, and I am taking my 8 year old daughter to see you - I am looking forward to letting her see the musician behind the music. Have a wonderful time while you’re in Derby City!
~Elle
p.s. Something interesting: I went to Indy’s Jazz Kitchen last week and caught Fareed Haque and his group - outstanding fusion/jazz/world/funk music! The tabla player was inspiring!

Hi Duncan. Nice to hear from you! I hope you’re managing to have some fun in between all the busy stuff. The weather’s been GREAT, hasn’t it?
I’ve honestly been thinking a lot about turkeys. I’m wondering, what’s up with them lately? In the past week alone, I’ve seen 6 dead turkeys that had been hit by cars, laying on the side of the road. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. I mean, maybe an occasional dead turkey on the side of the road, but never so many. So, I’m wondering….is it turkey hunting season and they’re running scared all over the place? Or, is it mating season and they’re running crazy all over the place trying to find a mate? Every time I get in the car to go somewhere, I see another. What’s up with them?
Then, also on my mind is that I’m glad I’m done cooking and cleaning for the day. That’s all I’ve done since 8 a.m. I’ve got things in the oven, on the stove, in the fridge, and the house is spotless. Why you ask? Because tomorrow Carl and I are hopping on a train and heading for an overnight in the city. Hoorah! I’m so ready to get away to someplace DIFFERENT and FUN for a bit. And it’s been a while since we’ve done the city thing. So, in order for me to feel good about leaving my kids and dogs with my mom, I clean and cook frantically so no one has to do anything while we’re gone. Boring to most, I know, but this is what’s of interest to me at this very moment.
So there you have it. I really will try to come up with something thought provoking and intelligent next time. :D

I just got Greetings from Michigan by Sufjan, literally just opened the package. I am super excited. I wish you and he would collaborate. I don’t know if that would be a mess or not, but either way, i would buy, drive to, listen, love it.
April 19th, 2006 at 3:25 pm
That was totally random.
Something interesting: my band (I sing) is playing Friday, May 26 at The Cutting Room at 11:30. Something else interesting: Joe Tag, the same Joe Tag with a remix posted on the limoremix site, is one of the brainchildren of said band (songwriter, drummer, programmer).
Anyway, I’d like to invite you and Spooky Ghost and Doug and everyone to the show. It would be way more than interesting if you came (but I know it’s close to the Spring Awakening opening). The band is called “Still Life” for now, as you can tell from the name of Joe’s remix.
SA rehearsals sound exhausting. I bet the show will be amazing, though.
Best,
Liz
P.P.S The Lincoln Center show was incredible.

I saw THANK YOU FOR SMOKING last night and it was hilarious.
Going to the book launch tonight in NYC for Anthony Arnove’s new book “Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal” — which, as you can guess, is about why we shoud withdraw NOW from Iraq. Inspired by Howard Zinn’s 1967 book “Vietnam: A Logic for Withdrawal”, it always seems history is repeating itself and not learning from previous mistakes… all very interesting…
Aside from that, it’s a gorgeous sunny day in New York & I can’t wait for Spring Awakening & summer!

Duncan,
Thanks for the brilliant performance in Easton, Md. and thanks for the autograph. Meeting you was great.
What I find interesting (forgive my random thoughts)
….Let’s see…this may sound a little too philosophical or “heavy” for this blog…but the words/music to Nothing Fades have a very therapeutic effect. The song struck a strong chord with me and I truly believe it can actually help put a person in a calm frame of mind when dealing with stressful situations (whether health, work-related or just life or the fear of death). It’s either your song…or a few beers. I’ll take your song.
On my current reading list:
How I became Stupid…by Martin Page (hilarious story of a young guy who is “too self aware” and decides he should become stupid via all sorts of failed methods)
Hooked…Buddhist Writings on Greed, Desire and the Urge to Consume…S. Kaza (ironically, an impulse purchase…as I was listening to “shopping”…but hey, good books and good music don’t count, right?)
fondly,
Alex

I had forgoten to mention…
Do read “Truman,” an excellent/captivating biography of our 33rd president. Additionally, David McCullough(the author) is a master storyteller and a gifted speaker—do catch his lectures and readings if you guys/gals can. So, that is my minor contribution for the history aficionados of the blog.
*******
Now for some minor humour…not fun to be too serious, you know—gives you WRINKLES… :D:P
What’s on my mind—>prada clad/suave/wuss…how to erase the crazy visual in my wicked mind…Mwahahahaha
********
A few more…Sliver025—collaboration of Sufjan and Duncan…hmmm, Duncan and a banjo, could indeed be a sight to BEHOLD! :D:P
********
Final thoughts, I promise…
Hey DS, this is a TERRIFIC IDEA…you should have more of these intellectual, (don’t forget a bit of humour) exchange more often…would you possibly consider in hosting it regularly…I LOVE IT(surely, am not alone) :-)
Alrighty, Happy Wednesday Evening To All!

dangerous to allow us to ramble on. . .
my thoughts have been turning to:
how hard it is to go without a car (spoiled l.a. girl), but my temporary misfortune reveals the best in others. plus so much is within walking/biking distance.
being thankful i don’t have to do that walking/biking in the rain for now.
magnet’s “hold on” and its remixes.
david foster wallace’s “oblivion-stories”
spending some time with my parents during spring break (more than planned since i’m car-less) and asking them to tell me about the past.
discovering that all my dad’s vietnam war stories revolve around animals (snakes, lizards, rats, puppies).
learning that, after spending the summers in the 1950’s picking strawberries to earn money for school clothes, my mom and her family would drive down to l.a. and watch wrestling and roller derby at the olympic auditorium-where i watched an interpol concert last year.
well, i could easily continue. huh, guess i find my parents interesting.

Hi Dunc,
I’m been waiting 4 weeks to see if I was going to get a job, one I really want, and after a 6 hour interview/work test today, they told me it might be another 3 weeks. I like the company and the people, but I can barely afford to wait as long as I have been. Is it realistic to make someone wait 7 weeks? Anyway, I’ll be looking for other positions tomorrow. If they hire me, great. If not, at least I didn’t hold my breath.
I’m reading Sammy Davis Jr.’s, “Yes I Can.” It’s disguisting what he went through. This man was afflicted by racism against him. When I say afflicted, I mean he would dodge going to places with his white friends because the possible humilation of the door man telling him that his kind are not welcome was too much for him to handle. But, what this amazing little man accomplished, and why he did, will inspire you.

Free to fire away, eh?
I read Spring Awaking’s and enjoyed it very much, that is to say also, the amount of censorship and tweaking this one play has endured throughout the past century is intriguing.
Random nothing: If you are in need of a good relaxing, brainless laugh may I recommend “Little Britain”, if you haven’t seen it already, from well, maybe you can guess, Britain. Hooray for the BBC. (It’s by far not politically correct in any way, but it is a riot.) And (from the creators of Wallace and Gromit) for a more ages 2-6 vibe, Creature Comforts is brilliant as well (http://www.creaturecomforts.tv/)
My 10 Songs to Rave about (currently) …
The Album Leaf - “Wet the Day” - One Day I’ll Be On Time
Jason Collett - “Pavement Puddle Stars” - Idols of Exile
The Weepies - “Nobody Knows Me” - Say I Am You
Rocky Votolato - “Uppers Aren’t Necessary” - Makers
Candy Butchers - “What To Do With Michael” - Hang On Mike

Hi Duncan,
I just wanted to let you know that I watched a really interesting video the other day on the internet. It’s called “911 Loose Change”. It’s quite a frightening video. It documents all the strangeness and coincidences surrounding 9/11 and shows some very good supporting evidence that 9/11 was actually planned by our own government to carry out the political and military agendas that they desired. It’s almost an hour and a half long, so if you do check it out, make sure you have a good chunk of time, but it was definitely worth it! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it if you do see it!
Take care,
Damien

DS,
I am feeling lost in the middle of the country again. Part of this is the usual “blue in a red state blues”, for which the only temporary cure is nightly doses of the Daily Show. But it is also in large part due to missing your acoustic show in SF, which I understand from the human music stand was fabulous, AND missing Nero in SF, and now looking forward to missing Spring Awakenings in NY. Sigh. Thanks though for putting some of the music in the members section…I’m enjoying it, and feeling less out of touch.
So enough self pity. We had glorious thunder storms last night, and all our spring flowers are dewy and lovely, and the air smells great, and I have grants to write to EPA, and I’m listening to a little Elbow, so really, things are good. Oh, and the latest XM concert was GREAT! Thanks for that, too.

Hey DS,
Music is always on my mind. I’ve been revisiting the old blues guitar masters this week. Also still digging on WL. If you were aiming for the center of the chest you hit the mark…crushingly beautiful songs.
I believe you have said you have an iPod. I would like to gift an album on Itunes to you that I really would like for you to hear. What email/itunes acct can I send it to?
THanks again for the music..

Hi Duncan,
Nice blog and interesting to see what everyone is up to!
My mother has been here for the past week … I hadn’t seen her in ten years, so it was very therapeutic … now that she has left, I feel like I’m filled with huge amounts of positive energy and ready to move forward.
I’m currently reading “Awakening to the Sacred” by Lama Surya Das and enjoying it immensely! I highly recommend it to anyone who is a “seeker”.
I spent a beautiful morning in Boulder, CO. It’s spring time here and the flowers are all in bloom. It’s a wonderful time of year for new beginnings …
Hope you’re enjoying rehearsals! - Peace and Love, Bambi

Hi there Duncan!
Jesper here, writing from the distant land of Sweden.
I have an offer for you: If you bring your band and come and play here in Sweden I promise I’ll pay for the flight tickets, though you are probably going to be flying in a crappy cargo plane or so, but hey, I’m a musican too, and I know you will do this for me because you love music!
And now seriously. Your music grows with you and all of your studio albums are great (though I like “Phantom Moon” the most). And if you ever get the time/money/will/fame or what ever keeps you from Sweden then please come here!
Take care, Jesper.
April 20th, 2006 at 6:52 pm
Duncan,
I hope that you will read all of these. That’s awful nice of you to have an open thread. Anyway….as for what’s on my mind these days….aside from wondering when the t-shirt I ordered from your online store will arrive in my mailbox…I’ve been thinking a lot about the next thirty days of my life.
I’ve been trying (unsuccessfully) for about eight months now to find a job in the Minneapolis area and move away from Dubuque, IA. I’ve had a lot of close calls, but the fact that I need time to relocate is very unattractive to perspective employers. My girlfriend (who lives an hour south of Minneapolis) is pretty certain she’s getting a job at the college she’s graduating from. If that works out, I would just leave Dubuque and move up there-job or no job. From what has become of my life in the last eight months….the job that I have now….quitting that and taking something part time at Target sounds like the smartest choice I can make. It’s both exciting and nervewracking at the same time-finally getting to leave, but also trying to put a move together and put in notice at work.
Anyway, this I guess is kind of heavy-handed in comparison to what everyone else has said. Either way, these are strange times. But your music has gotten me through. White Limousine hasn’t left my c.d. player since I picked it up, and I just recently discovered some unreleased material of yours which I feel is fantastic. Hopefully the next time you’re touring in Minneapolis, I’ll be able to come and see you.
Good luck with rehearsals. I was a theatre major in college, so I know how that goes.
Thank you for making the music that you do.
April 20th, 2006 at 7:05 pm
What’s on my mind? Well, I just found out that I’m getting $3,450 less in funding than I was expecting to, jeopardizing all my plans for June, July, and August. Apparently, allowing someone studying economics who’s never quilted anything in her life to go to Alabama - a place where she’s never been, either - to learn how to quilt from rural folk is something worthy of a $3,000 grant, but sending two people 4,300 miles away to do independent research directly related to their [relatively obscure] field of study is a waste of resources. God forbid we actually do something productive. (I’m not bitter. I’m not bitter. I’m not bitter…)
Anyway, I’m bummed I missed your show in Hoboken. I hope you come back soon. Best of luck with all your work in Spring Awakening!
Cheers,
Maria

Hi Duncan-
Rain all this weekend to wash all the pollen away.
I don’t want to drive because gas is too high. I have to try and ration for getting back and forth to work during the week. Prices haven’t peaked and already it’s come to this.
I’m slowly attempting to reconcile with a friend that betrayed my trust.
Life goes on.
Peace, Love, Ciao,
Toni

Sticky, icky times.
Seriously.
The b/f of four years (and former fiance) and I called it off.
That pretty much sucks.
So, I’m kinda homeless (I’ve been taken in by a kind friend’s mom), have a part time job that pays not so much, and have to fight over who gets to keep the car I’m driving.
To boot, I’m in my brother’s wedding tomorrow.
Fresh breakups and weddings= super sobbing/wine drinking fest.
In a nice dress.
ICK.
But. I’m listening to you.
(”Aftermath” in particular.)
And that makes me feel better.
Thank you D.
You always bring the center back into focus.
You’re my favorite ice cream,
Susann
PS. You coming to Illi anytime soon?
Can I suggest DeKalb (NIU campus)?
Or Abby’s Pub in Chicago?

What’s on my mind?
Well, in exactly 2 weeks I will be taking my first plane ride….ever! (To Florida!)
I’m a little nervous…I’d prefer to keep my feet on the ground, but everyone assures me
that I’ll be just fine. As long as I have my CD player and CDs with me, I’m sure I’ll survive.
But, mostly I’m excited about the trip…getting to be somewhere new (and my first time on
the East Coast!), giving me a good excuse to go shopping for new clothes, get to visit a theme park
or two, and finally, I’ll get to meet up with a friend after 6+ years!
(Oh yeah, and go to some concert in St. Petersburg!)
;)
Other than that, I’ve just been enjoying the spring weather the Bay Area is FINALLY having,
so I can go on walks without worrying about my feet getting all soaked from the rain!
(Although they say it’s going to rain tomorrow!) :P
I’ve also been enjoying some of the amusing things kids at the preschool I work with have been
coming up with. For example, one conversation during lunch time had the kids discussing how certain foods are made or where they come from. It was hard not to burst out laughing when one of them asked another child, “Do you know where milk comes from?” She responded, “From cows.” Then she asked, “Do you know where chocolate milk comes from?’ Her response, “Chocolate cows!”
Ahhh….the future of America!
:) -Tammy

Hmmm…something interesting…
First and most importantly Duncan, you have fans here in Texas who miss you greatly. I haven’t seen you perform since the Dallas food festival eons ago. Considering I spent my adolescence contemplating “November” and “Days go By”, and the fact that my husband turned on “For You” to propose to me…you are a very important part of my life. Please tell me you’re coming back to Texas soon.
The something interesting on my mind right now is that I’m to be a bridesmaid next weekend for my mother-in-law’s wedding. She met a man, 3 weeks later they were engaged, and 7 weeks later they will be married. Isn’t it amazing the surprises life has in store for you?
April 22nd, 2006 at 7:55 pm
Hello Mr. Sheik
I was just looking through your list of places you were playing and was thoroughly depressed by the lack of a Pa/Maryland show in the near future. . .
Also, I wanted to thank you for doing what you do. I have been listening to your music since I was 4 (around when your origional album debued) and I am 15 now and still love every song. amazingly I have yet to grow tired of one and love the new ones even more. So. . . Keep it up and consider booking a Pa/Maryland show sometime =]
April 22nd, 2006 at 10:01 pm
On my mind…
Just a little federally listed endangered prairie plant called Platanthera praeclara (Western Prairie Fringed Orchid), which is the topic of my biology senior seminar- to be given on May 2nd in science room 1020 on the University of MN-Morris campus- free food all are welcomed! (kidding I don’t expect to grab too many people with that one). So yes, my scope is somewhat narrow as well….the thought/fear of presenting to a bunch of Ph.Ds will do that to ya.
Also, I am wondering about this Al Gore documentary coming out about global warming, I hadn’t heard anything about it until reading idratherbwriting’s post (thanks by the way!). ‘Inconvenient Truth’ indeed. It freaks me out how some people see rising sea levels, changing temperatures (etc) as just somewhat of an inconvenience- the best article I read was how it is going to ruin the skiing industry in the Alps. To deal with the melting of glacier ice, resorts are paying thousands of dollars to ‘blanket’ the mountains to delay melting, instead of maybe putting that money towards lowering emissions?! -Meanwhile, islands in the SouthPacific are close to being completely submerged due to increased sea levels encroaching on the 2 M they are above sea level! (Does this make sense?) This is continually on my mind …taking a Global Change Ecology course will do that to ya….
Lighter Note: Give Carla Bruni’s cd “Quelqu’un m’a dit” a listen if you haven’t. I don’t speak French ( at all) but I still enjoy it quite a bit.
back to it….
April 22nd, 2006 at 11:49 pm
Hey Duncan -
All the best to you with Spring Awakening! It must be amazing for you (and everyone who will experience it)!
Thanks again for your great show in DC/VA (Birchmere) a few months ago. You were wonderful and it was so nice to meet you. It has been a long time since I have felt such a connection between the performer, music, and listener in a live setting. Incredible.
This note is to you personally, and by no means am I trying to promote myself… When I chatted with you briefly, I mentioned that I have a CD coming out in the next few months, and you are one of the people I thank on it — for being an inspiration for me. I’ll try to get a copy to you if I can. And the reason is this — I hope that in some small way that you are touched by my music, as I have been by yours. Believe me, I am not asking for any help in the music ‘business’ — which is a scary thing all in itself!!! It is merely a way for me to thank you for sharing your talent and for connecting with other souls.
All the best to you my friend!

Hi Duncan-
Let’s see…what’s on my mind? Well I returned from a week long spring break trip yesterday, so now I’m trying to refocus my brain on what I’m going to be doing with my students tomorrow. I think it’s going to be hard getting back into school mode after my beautiful California coastal road trip. Driving down Hwy. 1 through Big Sur is truly amazing and breathtaking. I was also able to spend the day with Leveriza in SF which was so much fun! So that’s about all that’s on my brain right now. I think I’ll go do some lesson planning for tomorrow, and maybe crack open one of the bottles of wine I bought in Napa!
Happy rehearsing!

Random thoughts: One of my cats is asleep on top of the television, one of her all-time favorite spots. It’s warm, it’s comfortable, and it’s just her size. of course, as I typed this, she had a dream that woke her up. She says hi. Her name is Hollywood, and your CDs are among her favorites. On multiple occasions, she has run into the room and sat down beside the CD player when I play your music.
Bookish thoughts: I second duncandonut’s recommendation of Sophie’s World. It is a brilliant book, a philosophy text wrapped inside of a novel. Also along those lines: the Ishmael trilogy by Daniel Quinn. Meanwhile, I recently read Anthony Rapp’s memoir Without You, and it is phenomonal.

Hi Duncan,
The show last night (in Verona, NY) was fantastic. I brought a friend who had not heard much of your music and she had a great time, too. In the off chance that you remember, I was the girl who said “yes” when you asked if anyone had come to the show in a White Limousine. You said “really?” and I said “nah”. Heh, I just couldn’t help myself. I have to say your comments were funny, especially about Milo being lonely on this tour. Poor Milo, now he’s lonely and singled out.
Here is my “interesting thought”:
Why don’t you come to Boston, MA? I have been lucky enough to see a show of yours twice, last night and three years ago again in NY. I don’t mean to brag, but I drove almost 400 miles to see you both times. So, if you could possibly come to Boston someday, I would be ecstatic. I know it’s a big request, but uh, pleeeease?
Also, I have been thinking a lot about the trajectory of my life lately. For years I waited for someone to come rescue me, and then it just hit me that I’m the only one who can. Maybe I’ll have an existential crisis, too. Just for fun, you know.

P.S. It’s so cool to me how you can perfrom equally well whether it’s just you and Gerry Leonard, or the whole band.

Duncan,
Hope you’re getting some rest. You looked tired at the end of the Fairfield, CT. show, like you could use a good cup of tea and some sleep.
Some interesting things I’m reading right now:
The Dante Club - Matthew Pearl
serial killings using Dante’s inferno as inspiration and solved by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, James Russell Lowell and J.T. Fields
The Venetian Empire - Jan Morris
the history of Venice at the height it’s of power, a bit dry reading, but interesting information
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall - Anne Bronte
A 19th C. woman supporting herself by painting, p.o.v. from male neighbor/suitor
A Thousand Days in Tuscany- Marlena de Blasi
part autobiography, part cookbook, wonderful descriptions of the people, food and places
Residence on Earth - Pablo Neruda
beautiful imagery and juxtaposition of words
Gaudi - Gijs Van Hensbergen
a biography of the architect
Take care of yourself and be well.

Dunc and everyone,
Was looking through Dunc’s first album (self titled) and was reading the list of musicians on the back of the booklet. I saw a bass player who’s name has become very familiar lately. It took me all of a nano second to realize the Pino, who now plays int he John Mayer Trio, played on the first album. WOW! That’s hot. It’s not as strange as when I saw TM Stevens name in Billy Joel’s River of Dreams and thought, “didn’t he play base for Steve Vai?” LOL.
As I’m sure I mentioned in another post somewhere on this site, I would love to see Duncan Sheik (or the new Sheik/Poe project), John Mayer, and Rufus Wainwright in concert together. Now that I’ve learned of the Pino connection, maybe it can happen? Maybe? Worth a try? :)

Duncan,
You afraid? Come on. NEVER!!!!!! Maybe a small bit nervous, but never Afraid. It’s going to be SUCH A GRAND, GREAT SUCCESS!!!!!! I even know that….. For years & years now…. Well you know what I have always said about You and Steven. :) You will surpass those other Two Well Known Gents!!!! I am also a bit afraid…for I started a new job yesterday….A great Opportunity to grow…into a great Career by day. Nothing could ever take me away from my Musical Hopes and Aspirations though. You know that. Don’t worry. Everything will be just perfect for you…and all in Perfect Time. It is Spring right? I’m hoping to make it up to one of the shows of course, just don’t know when yet. I can’t wait till you and Steven “Officailly” hit Broadway!!!!!! Now, that will be the time to be a bit more nervous. I’m sending all of my Energy your way…to all involved. It will be a Great Success. Stay calm and enjoy Life….These things come easily for you. Concentrate on other New things as well….Since you need it more than ever now…I’m sending it Man….I don’t have to tell you how much I love your work and your Kind Soul. XOXO
Thanks for Being in My World Each and Everyday…
Much love and Peace,
Michele :) Karma your way……….

I was actually thinking of going to this site and asking about your other musicians. I play bass and have a hard time picking out the lines in a lot of the songs, and there’s no tab or anything that I could find online for bass. I was also looking around for WHO the bassist is in any of the songs, and what equipment is used. There is no info that I could find. If anyone knows, message me: neotrimor on AIM, or mattsk42@hotmail.com for MSN. I’d really like to play some DS songs with a band! Thanks!

Interesting you should ask…
I was listening to Dawn’s Request today and I was wishing I had the guitar tablature.
Any plans to release a music book like the one for the self-titled album or perhaps a members-only offcial tablature section? *hint*hint* :)
Peace, love and gratitude,

I am graduating college in a few weeks. Looking at a position with the DEA or staying where I am right now. Trying to get through these last papers and finals is going to be tough… I would have thought my last semester would be easy. I am pretty aimless, but I am staying positive in thinking I will find my way. Looking at apartments with some friends, so pumped to move out. I learned a lot about box jellyfish recently. They have eyes and sleep. How stunning is that?
Member’s-Only Tab section would be nice. But it definitely would not help me develop my ear at all!
How are things with you, buddy?

I am in St. Louis and I see you everytime you are here. I am so bummed that you are playing Wash U and only students and staff get to see you. At 35 I am not a student! Sorry to miss you this time bro. When you are going to do a public show in St. Louis?
Cheers

Hey Duncan!
I saw you twice in Mexico City ages ago. I was really young at that time, hahaha, but I’ve always liked your music. I still keep that first CD of yours that you autographed for me. That and the pic my friend took of me with you after my camera broke.
Anyways, right now, my husband and I tried to make our internet go wireless, but it didn’t work so far, stupid technologic things!
Keep up with the good work and I hope you play in San Antonio in the near future! :)

Duncan,
It was great to finally see you in person, thanks for doing a university show! Somehow i thought you would be more awkward on stage, but you’re actually sort of charming. Wish you could have stayed for longer, and I’m glad you didn’t give in to the chants of “Barely Breathing”~ you were a good sport. Thanks and come back to saint louis!

Duncan:
My wife and I just had our first child (Seraphina) 5 weeks ago. During the pregnancy, we played Phantom Moon over and over again as they say that when the child arrives and hears familiar music outside the womb it is supposed to be very soothing. Guess what? It hasn’t worked. She’s very colicky and keeps us up all night. Fear not, we don’t hold you in any way accountable. :-)
Anyway, we will be back in the States sometime in the summer to show off the kid my family. I see that you are planning a tour in Europe. Any idea when you will be in London? I would hate to book the trip to NY only to have you playing in London at the same time.
Love the new album, hoping to see it performed in person.
Be well.

This is a note to Mickman-
I tried that with my youngest..Mozart, Beethoven and Bach. All 9 months. After she was born, all she had to hear was a few notes, and WHAM she would just start SCREAMING! so ironic.
But. She is now 6, and hums many classical tunes without realizing it, especially Baroque. She requested piano lessons, and often asks to listen to at bedtime, you guessed it, ….
Her favorite Duncan Sheik song is SadStephen’sSong because of the mermaid reference, and she was thrilled to visit Trafalgar Square last month and saw “the mermaids”.
My youngest got none of the efforts that my oldest daughter received, and is not partial to the type of music we listen to.
I will say that both of them love PinkMartini’s Hang on Little Tomato.
So wait and see there….your little one may be humming The Winds That Blow when you least expect it!!
I am glad to read that I am not the only one with kids and no longer in college!
Peace

Well It’s Almost That Special Day……..
Happy Birthday Mr. Sheik….
May peace be with your each and every breath
May the clear light be always within your Soul
May your efforts, all come back to you ten fold
May all the hearts around you ring in harmony, joy, happiness, sunshine for your Special day
May each step be a quiet whisper leading along the Path of Wisdom
Never afraid, never surprised, may still peace accompany your side
Here be the gentle winds for you and the sun to warm you inside
Quiet, awake, transforming glow….awaken you each new day
New knowledge and visions to guide you every new day
Never ending goodness is wished for you each day……
May your voice always ring to the G-ds, and the Angels watch over you
May blessings pour forth for you Duncan…..for the Light, and hope you bring to so, so many Souls.
My love,
Michele (Why should this day be different than any other’s?)
much peace D. Have Fun!!!!! and then some…….and then some more!!!!!!

Hello Topaz & D,
How sweet of you to wish us all a Happy Saturday. Well it just passed Midnight here, so now it’s Sunday. I’ll tell you what I’m listening to at the Moment it’s. “Jacksonville City Nights” by Ryan Adams and the Cardinals. It’s a great CD…but I would recommend buying all of the 3 different CD’s he put out last year. They are “Cold Roses- 2 Volume Set”, “29″ and “Jacksonville Cty Nights”. What a great Musician. Hope everyone is having a great weekend too. I’m resting up a bit from a very tiring last 2 weeks. My World Civilization class is over…and I started that new job 2 weeks ago. So things are cool. Oh yes, one more thing…I’m getting ready to relax and have a large cup of Green Tea. Goodnight…
Love to all,
BW :)

Well…. I saw the movie “Bush’s Brain” yesterday and it was very disturbing!
It got me so worked-up I could not fall sleep until 5am or so.
I’ve seen horror movies before, but this one took the cake…..
Karl Rove is a scary man…….. :(

Hi there,
This is totally unrelated, but I was wondering how your European summer tour was coming along. I am based in Paris and was only able to make it to one of your gigs at the Bowery Ballroom quite a few years ago (’97, I think). It would be fantastic to hear you play live again; and even better if it was here in Paris…
Thanks for a great album, by the way.
All the best,
Fabien

See? Now why couldn’t this site have come along when I was younger and had time every day to check out new posts? I wander in here a month after it’s genesis. *sigh* Oh,well. I wanted to tell you guys that I finally saw the “That Says It All” video with the bizarro-Duncan. Very nice! It reminded me of the similarities that I’ve seen between Duncan and Morissey. Something about the way you both turn and angle your profiles.
As far as my life, I have come into a cycle of plenty. My career, doing what I feel I was meant to do, has taken off. For thos of you who don’t know me, I am a voice over artist. Audiobooks, websites, messaging, video games, you name it, I’ve voiced it. I love playing different characters everday. I’m also able to donate my services to charities and small businesses trying to reach their own goals. I love giving back, I owe a lot of karma. (And the radio stations I do work for let me request Duncan)
Anyway, just wanted to say that it’s a whole new world when you finally give in and decide to listen to what Fate has been whispering into your heart. Can’t wait to see the new show. You’ll know when I’m there. I’ll be the girl screaming “You rock!” who sounds vaguely like your bank’s automated voice prompts.

Hmmm…..what’s on my mind? How very nice of you to ask DS. :)
On my mind….
Why do we all get so caught up in the stupic little trivial “things” in our lives when there are so many more important things to think about? Really really important and big things. But we dwell on all these little DETAILS that really mean nothing when you step back and look at the big picture. I’m going to try to NOT do this anymore.
Will I get to a Duncan show this month? Maybe the Woodstock show since it’s only a little over an hour away? I sure hope so. I’m due. And I love Woodstock.
Will I get to see Spring Awakening in the city this month? I think I need to make this happen, even though I’m in the process of moving and my eyeballs feel like they’re going to pop out of my head and onto the floor in front of me due to stress from all the planning. I’ll just make time for it and deal with everything when I get back.
Will my oldest daughter be happy with the decisions she’s made? I hope so with all of my heart. She’s got so much on her plate right now and it’s out of my hands….
So there you have my thoughts. Actually, only a few of them. There are WAY too many…this has been a very strange past couple of months, to say the least.
Hope this little rant finds everyone well. And a happy Monday to you all. :)

*it’s a gray morning* … (why must dark, sunless skies set less than enthusiastic moods for the day?) maybe I should focus on a creative outlet .. first things first ..
It’s too quiet. I’m missing people and their chatter …
…
somewhere “in the midwest” (preferably near me) would have made a nice pit stop between Canada and Washington. why no love ??? :)
Be safe and enjoy your trip to WA, Duncan. Wenatchee seems a bit off the beaten path, (actually, I was surprised you were traveling that way). The area is quite pretty this time of year, tho, with it’s rural, rolling hills and well, you can’t beat an evening at the winery .. May you find yourself under a blanket of stars carried upon a heady aroma of rose. (there hangs the pungent smell of _?_ in the air
of those parts) or so it was a few years back. (the area, not the winery - I should correct) :)
Anyone here attending?
It’s rather nice to have an off topic “open thread”, convenient, too, I might add. Good for discussion …
hint hint …
Happy Thursday. Hope all are well.

What’s on my mind? Hmm…
These days it’s preparing to move to upstate New York (Rochester, to be exact) in mid-August from Boston (husband’s going to grad school in the fall). One thing that sucks is that I won’t get to see your show in Somerville in September (I’d have moved by then), so maybe you should consider coming to Rochester or something. ^_^
I just discovered that iTunes finally have some of your music videos in their catalogue (She Runs Away, Barely Breathing, and On a High), which I promptly purchased. It’d be great if your whole video colledtion was available on iTunes, though (I have most of them on VHS but the sound quality sucks).
Another thing on my mind… kicking myself for not checking this blog more often. So many posts every several weeks, it makes me dizzy reading what everyone else is talking about! Then again, I am busy with moving stuff, so there you go.
Hope life’s treating you well and all.
Peace,
Catherine

Duncan,
Given your “There go the republicans” comments, it must have really bothered you that four people were leaving your concert at the World Cafe last night at the same time. Just so you know, we enjoyed your music and apologize if you were offended. We just needed to get back home to our kids.
