Two More Things

1) In reference to the previous post: just because Peter is capable (and all too willing) to perform intellectual smackdowns on people who post less than legit responses, doesn’t mean that anyone should be afraid of posting their own opinion about any of my posts. Come on, it only gets interesting when people really say what they feel and don’t hold back.

2) Chris Garneau is touring on the west coast next week. Do yourself a favor and go see him if he comes anywhere near your neighborhood.

Yes, I agree….. Most definitely get out and see Chris Garneau. I wish I was out in CA. God, I would definitely be at all of his shows. I had the lucky fortune of seeing him back a few months ago perform at a very, very, very small Art Gallery. I just cannot wait to see him and hear him perform Live again. I’m supporting him all the way…He is so, so, so talented!!!!! Duncan has great ears for Talent and Music to say the least. Thanks for bring us this Amazing Rising Star Duncan.

Your not so bad yourself, :)

Come on Duncan…. you really hadn’t really posted much in awhile, so I think that other blogger-readers are taking some time off too ;)

Intellectual smackdown!…. that’s my word for the day! :D

I’m not sure if anyone was scared away. I read it but just didn’t feel like I could add anything enlightening at this point. Maybe others felt that way too??

Hi All- with all due respect, some people on this board are secret members of Sheik’s Shakedown Posse. I personally feel that to disagree with anything Mr. Sheik says, is to shoot myself in the foot, or to be awaiting a war in words with the posse. I know that in the past I have disagreed with Duncan, and had immediate replies that left chinks in my armor. It is not fun to be unable to express an opinion without other readers taking things as a personal affront, thus leading to an attack on all fronts. I believe that as a whole (and I am not immune, certainly) we should start listening to each other more, and appreciating the flip side of the coin. While we may agree to disagree, we can do it with dignity and respect.

Thank you for the recommendations, Duncan! I checked out Chris’s tour dates, but unfortunately, there is nothing near me … I’ll keep watching his page though!

Having nothing intelligent to add to the discussion, I thought I’d recommend the book that I’m currently reading (and really enjoying!) It’s by Jane Goodall and is called “Harvest for Hope.” It makes one really stop and think about how many toxic foods we put into our bodies each day, and also what we’re doing to the environment in the process.

Previously, I read Jane Goodall’s “Reason for Hope” which is a study of spirituality in its various forms and our relationship to the Earth. I would HIGHLY recommend either of these books!

    Thanks again, Duncan! - Bambi

ok … I’d like to know what you gained from reading Dennett’s book? Did you attain answers and/or arrive at any symblance of peace thru his analysis? Enlighten me … Disregard Dennett’s theories for a moment. What do you have faith in?

quote … “come on, it only gets interesting when people really say what they feel and don’t hold back” … unquote

    no tip-toeing required.

duncan, so fiesty!!! ;) i love it… lol

here’s the thing… i have no fear of the “intellectual fiend” (ref. my comment in your previous entry) (also, peter, i refer to you as such in the MOST lighthearted way possible… i find it refreshing and entertaining… thank you. lol)… i would just like to read the book first before giving my opinion on it.

however, from what it *seems*, i MAY have to disagree with dennett… this has nothing to do with my personal beliefs/thoughts in religion or evolution. i don’t know what detail dennett does or does not get into but i have to ask… does he specify certain practices or does he simply generalize? i’m not sure how much it would matter, one way or another but…

does it sound to vague for me to say that depending on what angle you’re looking at this from it could go in three different directions? 1) certain religious practices have gone backwards in the past (and we are JUST starting to figure it all out again->move forward) 2) certain religious practices have gone… no where… it’s still the same and 3) certain religious practices have gone south (gotten worse)…

religiosity as a “naturally occurring phenomenon”… i could see that as a possibility… but how does dennett connect religiosity to the evolutionary process? (again, i’ll have to read the book first)

personally i tend to stay away from the word ‘religion’… mostly due to those “biblical literalists” you referred to duncan (they’ve warped it’s meaning-in my opinion)… but also, and i mean no disrespect to ANYONE who is religious (because this DEFINITELY is NOT true for everyone), i’ve noticed that it SOMETIMES SEEMS as though people have got it wrong… they either use religion as a last resort or they use it as a reason to socialize… did i mention the word SOMETIMES??? lol…

depending on what your practice is, i find that many “religious” people are, not only “literalizing”, but they’re also “over-intellectualizing” their faiths as well (or using it as a means to beat people down with their morality sticks)… instead of taking it to a deeper, more spiritual level, people USE religion, they don’t sincerely practice it… they don’t feel it. (please, don’t mock me… i’m not crazy)

also… as i mentioned, in regard to your previous entry, i prefer to have open conversation as opposed to typing everything out… i enjoy exchanging ideas on a more personal/intimate level… but, because i sincerely am a spiritual person, this particular topic caught my attention so i thought i’d give it a try…

anyway… you asked for it duncan! LOL… hopefully this goes over relatively well and/or at least goes a little unnoticed…

i’ll try to read the book before this hits the archives…

one last thing… whoever reads this… PLEASE, don’t take what i say personally OR too seriously for that matter… life’s too short.

    peace,
    . : c : .

p.s.-sorry if i kinda went off topic… did i? ahh, who cares?!!! LOL-peter, keep that intellectual stone of yours in your pocket! i bruise easily… ;) j/k
p.s.s.-i agree with kandi… duncan, you didn’t say how YOU felt about the whole thing mister!!! ;) spill!

one last note… you guys REALLY should implement an editing feature (unless there’s something i’m missing LOL)… i’m almost mortified by some of my simple grammar/writing errors… LOL…

oh well… i’ll attribute it to the fact that it’s late, i’m seriously lacking sleep and that was my second attempt at sounding at least somewhat coherent… LOL

*please disregard the “little bumps”… thanks. ;)

  12. duncan Says:

I will give my two cents on the book when I finish it. I’ve been kind of busy and I’m taking it (the book) slow.

    Cheers,
