Tour Over (for now)

Thank you guys so much for coming out to the shows these past few weeks. I hope you had fun. I certainly did. I had my first day of Spring Awakening rehearsal today. The new cast was very, very surprisingly good so it should be quite a show.
We’ll see.

What no rest for the “wicked?” hee hee hee. Seriously, it doesn’t sound like you got much of a break. Do try to take it easy when you can, okay?? Enough of the mother routine, I promise!! Although I didn’t get to see any of the shows, from all the pictures and write ups on the website, I felt as though I was kinda there. I know you gave many people memories they will cherish for a lifetime!!

    Oh Sheiky.
Thank you for being out and about.

More work eh? (you silly, sweet, dedicated man)
    Don?t you ever get tired?
Well… as long as you promise to take some time for yourself.
Maybe sleep in and eat Cheerios after noon,
or decide that today just isn?t gonna to be laundry day.
    It’s the little stuff.

Anyway. Take care- good luck with Nero.
I?m eager to hear it. (hint hint hint)
    Kidding, kidding.

    Rest up.
    See you around the bend.

In the meantime, song recommendation: “Work” by Troubled Hubble.
I have a feeling you might just really dig it. :)

  7. Tansy Says:

    Oh my fancy italicizing.
I guess, I just really meant what I wrote?
    Ha ha.

    G’dnight!

  8. Histcreatr Says:

Duncan, I really enjoyed the two shows I was able to get to! You have so much wonderful, positive energy and the shows were incredible!! I am really enjoying the new album (but admit that I have mainly been listening to the song list from the shows!) and am still on cloud 9 after meeting you and the band! Thanks so much for all that you do! - Love and peace, Bambi

  9. bryanwyoung Says:

I saw the show in Dallas - it was fantastic. I’ve been a fan since 1997 and I own every album, so I feel entitled to say this: your album should have been more like your live shows. The CD of White Limousine, while great, lacks the energy of the concert. Gerry Leonard is WAY too far back in the mix! Your show absolutely ROCKED, but the album is so much more sedate.

Is there any hope that you will post some recordings of the live shows on the members only site? I desperately want a copy of some of those performances. The live version of “Nothing Fades”, “Rubbed Out” and “Wishful Thinking” were beyond spectacular!

  10. Topaz Says:

Duncan, I had a BLAST at the shows! Thank you once again for the wonderful music… and thank you for being so sweet as well. I’m glad to hear that you’re pleased with the new cast…good luck and have fun with that whole thing. I’m sure it’ll be wonderful. :)

Hey, by the way, did you hear that zero7 has completed their new album, “The Garden”? Yay! Release date—>May 15th. They’ll be touring the UK in May/June, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they head this way after that. Just wanted to give you the heads up in case you’ve been to busy to hear about it…

Take care of yourself and remember…..have fun! :)

    Hey Duncan -

Please be sure to let us know as soon as the tickets for Spring Awakening go on sale. When is opening night, do you know yet? I am planning on making a trip out of it just to see your show.

Can’t wait! Looking forward to it.

  12. dakotagirl Says:

Nothing beats hearing your songs live. The more I listen to White Limousine the more I’m dying to hear the entire album live… until next time! I was lucky enough to have seen your Spring Awakening show at Lincoln Center last year… that cast was spectacular, so I can only imagine how amazing this one will be. Keep on rockin!

  13. guitar1696 Says:

    Yo Duncan,

It was such a pleasure to meet you after the Ft. Collins show. You guys are so amazingly talented and it was great to rock out to your songs live. I’m really digging White Limo… it’s an incredible cd with some really inspiring tunes. Take care and come back soon!

Got to see you twice, almost thrice. I am completely bummed to be living in one of snow-ridden areas this country has to offer. Missed your Ann Arbor show- even though I hung your mug all around town prior to the show.
Just a bit aside- your management should do some double-takes on the fliers, and make sure to slap on the show time next round.
Anyhow- you are always inspiring, and I imagine I will be just as enthusiastic to see you come your next album.

    Peace
    Andrea

I love psyching myself up by indulging in your CDs before hand and chewing off any and everyones ear about going to see you. If they didn’t know Duncan before they know ya now.

    See ya soon,

  20. portlanduncanoodle Says:

duncan! my husband and i saw your portland show at the alladdin, not long after we saw the jeff tweedy show at the crystal ballroom. my husband is fan-number-one of tweedy/wilco. he’s also a fan of yours by proxy, but more so now than before. here’s why:

jeff tweedy’s show started off okay, though only those over 6′5″ could see anything. oh, some context for my story: the crystal ballroom, as you’ll remember, is a huge, flat gymnasium with bad sound and bountiful beer; it’s a friday night, so everyone’s there to unwind, hang out with friends, hear some good music, whatever. no one was out of hand. no one was making a scene. but in the middle of the show, tweedy got agitated because people were talking. yes, it’s true - we weren’t all hushed with awe, transfixed on the stage like preschoolers at storytime. tweedy said we needed to stop talking, that we were there for his music and not for socializing, that we should all be one heart beating, listening as one. ifelt scolded. he put his guitar down and said he wouldn’t pick it back up until everyone in the room shut the hell up. it was, in a word, dreadful. and arrogant. two words. any draw i’d had to tweedy was diminished. my husband said he felt something was lost for him in that moment, too, and i haven’t heard him play wilco or tweedy since. so sad.

skip to the night of your show at the alladdin. i get us tickets. we have a late dinner and duck into the show right as you’re taking stage. the audience is chill. theater is funky. band sounds tight. you’re sweet and manly in your beard. i’m hoping you’ll play my favorite song. yeah, you’re up there working hard and some people are talking. but you’re fielding the audience - their tourretes outbursts - like a champ: play mr chess. (”oh i will!”) mr chess! (”just be patient”) see you in seattle tomorrow. (”hottt”) play mr chess! (”go fuck yourself, san diego.”) with a single, brilliantly delivered anchorman quote and a smile, you’ve risen above anything we saw at the tweedy show, and my husband leans into me and whispers “duncan’s so much better than jeff tweedy.” yeah, of course i’m sure you probably want us to all be silent, to be one heart beating and all that crap - who doesn’t? - but you’re not squandering our few hours together on such trite drivel, on blackmailing the audience by refusing to play until they’re mum. and that’s a good thing. such a good thing. you’re cool, you’re keeping it together, you’re guitar says your happy to be there.

my husband bought me white limousine the next day.

this is all to say that we loved your show - probably more than any other show we’ve seen in a long time (well, since the flaming lips. but no one can top a lips show - no one). loved your beard. loved your confident, mellow vibe. loved your new songs. loved your band - thought they sounded better than ever before. loved that you seemed to be there to enjoy the evening with us. that’s how you keep fans, and that’s how you make new ones.

see you next time you’re in portland.
    -kbc

  21. Topaz Says:

Aw…what a GREAT post kbc. :) I know JUST what you’re talking about. Don’t get me wrong….I LOVE Jeff Tweedy, but he did a similar thing back in October when we saw him as well. Sort of scolded those who were not mesmerized. And yup, gotta give credit where credit is due…Duncan is a CLASS act. :) I’ve never seen anyone else like him out there.

    Laura

P.s. So sorry to talk about you like you’re not here Duncan….:D

  22. jenrap Says:

Saw you in Alexandria, VA at the Birchmere. LOVED the show, LOVED you, LOVED David Poe and Jim Boggia. As always it was a night to remember. Can’t wait to see you again…

  23. Celandine Says:

I’m glad to hear you had fun….because I know we all sure did!
It was “HOTTT” being able to see you perform twice in one day!
So many wonderful memories! Hope that you will stop in San Francisco
again this year, to create more memorable moments!
Looking forward to seeing “Nero” next month and hearing your beautiful music! :)

I was at the Mr. Smalls show in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and I had the most wonderful evening I have had in such a long time. It was such a treat to see you ~ it was my first DS show. I hope you are having a good time with rehearsals…being a former scenic painter for many a show, I know how grueling those schedules can be. Get lots of rest and I am anxiously awaiting the next time you are near my fair city!

    Ciao,
    Annie

    Hey DS,

I saw the shows in Portland, ME and Northampton, MA. Both were absolutely tops.

Keep up the great, great music and I’m looking forward to posting some remixes soon. >:]

  28. blackwuzzy Says:

It really bothers me that I missed the “Lincoln Center” gig Duncan. This will go down in History for me, with David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Tour in Philly. I will never live that one down either. That’s a good thing though. It makes you really appreciate the Times you are there.

    Much love,

I wish i could say I’ve only missed the odd show, but I’ve never been to one. I’m coming to New York in April, so I’m hoping/praying that there will be a NY show while I’m there. (April 24-26) I’m addicted to the new record. Anyone who gets in my car has no choice either. Maybe you’ll play in South Africa someday? ‘Til then it’s travel!

    All the best,

    Adi

A few more chimes…for the Saratoga show in October…a wine-tasting before the show could be fabulous. Villa Montalvo should be able to set you up with no problems…will bring all my pals and make sure it is a sold-out wine tasting event. Okay, ’nuff chatter…

    Happy Wednesday!
