More shows …

O.K. it looks like the “Places I’m Playing” page has been updated and is accurate through the end of August.
It’s not up yet but I’ll be playing Nashville on Sep.2 and Asheville, N.C. sep. 3rd. I plan on doing a west coast run the last two weeks of Sep. and a northeast run starting in the middle of Oct. (There’s a show in Bayshore NY at a nice theatre on Oct. 15). Things will get more specific over the next couple of weeks.

    I can’t believe I am the first to leave a message :D. But hopefully I will get to see you this summer. Because I couldn’t see you in Mass, I had the tickets but didn’t make it. Hopefully the next time I will. Can’t wait for the new album either.

  2. Syl Says:

    Congrats on being the first!

    Looking forward to seeing you in Chicago, Duncan!

    HELL F’n YEAH!!!!! I am there dude! Where in Nashville, Exit Inn or 3rd and Lindsey, the Ryman would be cool! Well, if you played on the corner of a street in Nashville I would still go see you play. Man this is awesome and it is on my brothers birthday so we are going! Infinite thank you’s,
    Mani

    I’m really appreciating the advance listing of shows! I’m hoping to plan a mini-vacation to the NYC area later and will definitely be watching to see if I can incorporate one of your shows.

    I also like the “List of Sins” addition.

    I just bought tickets for the show in August at Birchmere in Alexandria. It’ll be my first DS show and I cannot wait. I still cannot stop listening to Phantom Moon. No more mermaids!

  22. Tansy Says:

    This has nothing to do with your entry- I’m sorry.
    I just had to tell you how much the name “list of sins” made me smile.

    That’s bloody fantastic.

    As for your entry, I’m glad you’re playing more.
    That means more music suggestions and a happier Duncan.
    Keep safe.

    Susann

  23. ecstasia Says:

    Gotta love the List of sins. You’ve done so much more than I was aware of. And congrats on the awards. I knew about the Grammy Nomination but that was the only one I was aware of.

    So glad to see that you’re coming out to the west coast. I’m crossing my fingers you’ll hit San Diego or somewhere close so I can see you again! It would be the perfect birthday present for me. (25 on September 20th - yay me).

  24. blackwuzzy Says:

    Topaz,

    Do you have David’s first two CD’s?? Reason being is that most of the songs which are on, “Love IS Red” are on his other CD’s, except for maybe two or three songs. This CD is, of course great, but it is really, really, slowed down…big time. The new songs are truly beautiful and well worth the price and the new renditions of the older songs are worth it too, but very, very slow arrangements. Make sure you get his Self-Titled CD and his 2nd. CD as weel….

    Love & Peace…Hope all is well Guy’s.

    love,

    BW :)

  25. blackwuzzy Says:

    That’s Well.

    Duncan, I’m happy to hear about all of the new shows….See you sometime soon at a gig then. Enjoy the Summer!!!

    Hey Guy’s did you hear about, The Music of Nick Drake? (To be performed up at Central Park for free? Check it out!!!!

    M

  26. idratherbwriting Says:

    blackwuzzy,

    Well, yes I did hear about it. Have you heard who’s performing?

    BTW
    I would love to meet up with other messagers at the Indy show Aug 5. I did that before a Finn Brothers concert earlier this year and the shared taste in music made for some great conversation. You can contact me through LiveJournal by linking through my user name above.

  27. blackwuzzy Says:

    Here is the Link. I’m not exactly sure, but there appear to be a few good shows coming to the Park. I would really like to see the Nick Drake show, but being 90+ miles away makes it hard. I’ll try though.

    Correction on David’s CD, about 4 new Songs. All of his CD’s are well worth getting for sure!!!

    BTW, I saw Lizz Wright in Philly last Saturday night, she was so smooth and amazing…..wonderful young Artist. Teddy Thompson opened for her. Hey Guy’s anyone ever hear of Matisyahu? Oddly enough, he is a Hasidic Raggae Rapper. (Very Unique Idea!!!) I heard one song by him. This Guy is really quite, quite good. He’s even getting rave reviews in Rolling Stone. He’s coming to Philly on my Birthday, July 9th. I’m thinking about going to that show. www.worldcarfelive.com . (See him there) Look him up and check him out. He is unique and different and of course with a Spiritual flair!!!! :)

    speaking of DS shows and David Poe. . . heard Poe at Largo (l.a.) for first time last Tues. i think we were an audience a bit too staid for him.

    when the paper said “can’t-be-named-here special guests,” i had more than a glimmer of hope that is was Mr. DS. i was pleasantly surprised to see Lisa Loeb while eating matzoh ball soup at Canter’s Deli across the street. later, her saxophone playing friend was the guest. . . then Lisa sang harmony. guess the circle of singer/songwriter friends is complete.

    can’t believe i have to wait until the fall for a DS appearance. . .

  33. Alykat Says:

    I have to agree with Blackwuzzy…..Those songs are slowed down, yet still
    great. As David is a hometown boy (Dayton), i try to keep up with his
    new stuff……And to Duncan…by reading the “where are you” posts….seems Ohio is verrrrrrry popular….So try to get get here, and bring David home?

    RE: Love Is Red

    There should be a warning on the Label. Do not Listen too and drive.
    I was driving North up 295, mid-morning to work, initially when I had first gotten it, and on the like the 3rd. - 5th. listen, Man it was so relaxing, I was like falling asleep. Honestly. I had to turn it off. If I recall, it was “The Wilderness” Song that did it I think. Now after many listens, I can drive with it, but still need to be careful. There’s something hypnotic and mesmerizing about it. Yeah, but David does that anyway!!

    cool. He’s one of the craftier Musician’s out there. :)

  36. No Dominion Says:

    Strange how circumstances to align against one in an effort to prevent the viewing of one of the few true musicians left in this era… Fortunately, my luck runs deeper, and thus, magically, not even a deployment to sunny Afghanistan can keep me from a DS concert any longer. After years of waiting, trying, and failing, I’m finally going to be able to see DS in my home town of Indianapolis, shortly after getting back from my little overseas trip with the Army. Oh, and if anyone can identify the origin of my username WITHOUT cheating, I’ll be rather impressed.

    Cheers!

  37. Roxanne Says:

    One of my personal favs from Dylan Thomas:

    And death shall have no dominion.
    Dead men naked they shall be one
    With the man in the wind and the west moon;
    When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
    They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
    Though they go mad they shall be sane,
    Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
    Though lovers be lost love shall not;
    And death shall have no dominion.

    And death shall have no dominion.
    Under the windings of the sea
    They lying long shall not die windily;
    Twisting on racks when sinews give way,
    Strapped to a wheel, yet they shall not break;
    Faith in their hands shall snap in two,
    And the unicorn evils run them through;
    Split all ends up they shan’t crack;
    And death shall have no dominion.

    And death shall have no dominion.
    No more may gulls cry at their ears
    Or waves break loud on the seashores;
    Where blew a flower may a flower no more
    Lift its head to the blows of the rain;
    Though they be mad and dead as nails,
    Heads of the characters hammer through daisies;
    Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
    And death shall have no dominion.

  38. Roxanne Says:

    BTW No Dominion, and I’m so very happy to hear that you’re finally going to see Duncan in your hometown. The first time is always such a memorable experience.

    Have a safe trip oversees.

    Peace and Much Love,
    Roxanne

    Hey Duncan :)

    When ya gonna come back and see us in St. Louis? I met you at Vintage Vinyl and again when you opened for Ben Folds in University City in the Delmer Loop. I am going to Chicago to see you. We miss you in St. Louis!

    Take care

  40. evangeline Says:

    Hi Duncan,

    Duncan-

    Don’t forget about us over in Portland, OR….. You said a West Coast swing….. I’m hoping you make another stop here. After all, it’s been over a year….

  42. timespace70 Says:

    I am not sure if you caught his set at Vintage Vinyl but it was great. Standing right in front of such a brilliant artist doing his thing. He hung out after the set to sign CD’s and talk to his fans. He seems to be a very gracious soft spoken guy, very good to his fans. It’s sad that he does not get the recognition I feel he deserves. I am sort of a music “snob” according to my friends. It’s such a treat to be at one of his shows. I think he is one of the overlooked greats.

    Come back Mr. Sheik!

    Mark

  43. Leela Says:

    Thanks for the dates. But still looking for the date in Texas. Any chance at all?

  45. No Dominion Says:

    Roxanne,

    Well, you have certainly surprised me, you have to be the first person I’ve met who has recognized that poem. And don’t worry, I’ll have an excellent time seeing Duncan back home, I’m sure of it. Maybe if I’m truly lucky I’ll actually be able to meet him.

  46. Mercgurl Says:

    Glad to know you’re planning to come back to the northeast in mid-October… you are planning to swing by Mass. again, I hope? (crossing fingers)

    BTW Duncan, very clever with your resume addition. Calling it your “list of sins”… somehow it seems fitting. Wish I thought of that with my artist resume. ^_^
