It’s a small world after all …

Hi,

I was just curious where everyone was from. Or, rather, where you live now. There seems to be some folks from foreign lands, which is always nice, but I’d love to hear where everyone is posting from. Unless you want to remain mysterious, which is also fine.

Baton Rouge, LA and i wish that you would come within 500 miles of here. I know you came to SxSW, but it was during a really intense week and i didn’t get to go see you. If you come again, i will be there.

I am going to try to get up to Chicago to watch your show, and maybe hit the Indy show on the way up.

I’m from Birmingham, AL. I’ve been a big fan for years but have never had the opportunity to see you perform. There’s a venue called Workplay Theater(workplay.com) in town that I think would be perfect for your kind of music, audience, show etc. It has cabaret seating and some standing room for a max capacity of about 400. It’s a very intimate setting and hosts many nationally known acts (maroon 5, blue merle, kaki king, etc). Anyway, keep up the great music and looking forward to seeing you somewhere in the southeast or in Boston(where im in college).

I hail from the Quad Cities located about 2.5 hrs west of Chicago. Moved to Colorado for a short couple of years in my early 20’s, and back to my home town…for now:) I am now of the belief that you can be happy or sad anywhere in the world…it’s your perspective on life that makes you either or. It’s a good place to live I suppose. Always wondered what the eastern coastal states held in store though.

Born and raised in Indianapolis. I’ve been in Maryland near DC for the last 5 years and will probably be here a while.

I, of course, always liked Barely Breathing - it came out while I was in college. But I became a huge fan after hearing “That Says It All” in the movie Three to Tango. The rest is history as they say - That Says it All is still my favorite DS song and would be in my top 5 songs of all time.

DS - I heard you jammed with my friends in Blast! while they were on Broadway in NYC. I was very jealous! I participated with that same group when they were a drum corps and had a show with the Canadian Brass. Small world.

    xoxo to all,
    Amber

Where I’m posting from varies. The life of a grad student is somewhat itinerant.
Most common places- Philly, PA (The Point show was amazing), Madison (New Jersey not Wisconsin), Washington, DC, and occasionally Houston, Baltimore, and London.

  143. striver Says:

Now — if you’ve made it all the way to post #143 I’ll be totally impressed!

Lived in the DC area for 2/3 of my life, Chicago for 1/3, and Honolulu for a mere flash (in comparison). Presently in the DC burbs — so sorry I missed you at Rams Head — but hopefully will catch you when you come back to the area later this summer.

Although I’ve travelled a fair amount, I still find NYC to be my favorite city — the energy is infectious, and I can’t find it the same anywhere else.

  144. the bets Says:

Hey I’m posting again - I just really wanted to let all of you know about this great cause:
The House of Representatives is about to vote on whether to slash funding for NPR and PBS - starting with “Sesame Street,” “Reading Rainbow” and
other commercial-free children’s shows. If approved, this would be the
most severe cut in the history of public broadcasting.
There is an online petition gathering support to stop this cut at
    http://www.moveon.org/publicbroadcasting/
you can look around on the site and read a lot before signing - the only thing is - the House could start voting as soon as Tuesday so we need to help out now.
Anyway this seems like something worth telling people about and Duncan I hope you don’t mind me using this space to do so - we could really use your support.

Planned on seeing you then, but some crap came up and I wasn’t able to head back down to TX for the show. I’ll see you at the Chicago show in August though cause I’ll be in the area. Great timing on scheduling that show BTW. I’ll be moving to England in October near the New Market/Cambridge area. Still have to do some house hunting though. So, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a European tour after you release White Limo.

  148. Tansy Says:

Albany, NY right now, but ive lived in Texas, Missouri, Colorado and overseas…If i had a choice id go back to Colorado though…its always been my favorite!!

  152. la Says:

I grew up in Chatham Cape Cod - nice place to visit but wouldn’t want to live there. :) I have lived overseas - the Azores and Guam. I don’t know, I guess I have a thing for islands. As they say no man is an island…. but maybe this woman is. Anway, I went to college at UMASS Amherst (94 - 98) and Mt. Holyoke (00 - 02). I love the politics out there - seems to be a niche for everyone. I miss it terribly!

I currently live in Roanoke, Virginia. I hate the politics out here - I feel awash in a sea of red, white and blue. The local radio stations actually banned “Imagine” from the airwaves following 911. If you’re not with us you’re with the terrorists seems to be the motto around here. I find it bland and…. overcooked but people seem to get fat on it anyway.

I can always count on your music… Mr. Sheik… to get me through. You truly are an inspiration in a world that can be so confusing and… uninspiring. I love that you have remained true to yourself as I know that the music industry favors watered down, superficial lyrics and belly buttons. Your voice of reason and sentiment is something we all need… whether we realize it or not (in my little opinion, of course).

I have not seen you play but would like to. A heavy work schedule prevented me from heading for The Iron Horse… :( my preferred venue.

Believe it or not, spring has once again come and gone…. Happy Solstice everyone!

    La

  154. OtterFreak Says:

Hey Duncan, I’m in Atlanta, GA. The last place you played at here (The Cotton Club) is no longer open to the public (Clear Channel owns it and decided it wasn’t making enough money to stay open). Thanks for taking the time to sign those pictures I got enlarged of you with us when you played at Six Flags with Donna Lewis. Hope you get to make it this way again soon, not sure if I’ll be able to make it up to Raleigh in August but I’ll try extra hard if you bring David Poe with you too.
    Take care!

I’m from all over. I’m a military brat, so I was born in Philly, went to Hawaii, then to Texas, Kansas, Belgium, Virginia, Long Island NY, and back to Virginia. Then my dad retired in 1983 and we went to Hilton Head SC and finally back home to Pennsylvania. And we vacation every summer in Hilton Head becasue the place is AWESOME and beautiful and we love it. My 15 year old son and I are looking forward to seeing you preform at the end of July in Sellersville, PA. It’s actually the closest venue to us that you have ever played. It’s a quick 15 minutes down Rt. 309. So thanks!

Then I met you again with Gerry in Milwaukee at the Rave. I can’t wait to hear you live again. (Probably Chicago 8/6) It is a treat for me!

Anyway, I look forward to hearing you live when you come to town. And I’m an aspiring singer-songwriter myself, so hey, ya know…if you need an opening act when you swing through…drop me a line. ;-)

Someday 101, I miss San Antonio!

But I wanted to leave a message for DS or an admin concerning the concert dates. I noticed while surfing Ticketmaster that Duncan is scheduled to play at The Birchmere on the 24 of August in Alexandria, VA. However, the tour dates section of the site has him listed playing in Chicago again for the North Halstead Market Days. Kinda confused me. Thanks.

Wow, lots of people from Germany. Does anyone know Spangdahlem, near Bitburg? It’s one of the prettiest places I’ve ever seen, cozily nestled close to the Luxembourg border and nice and convenient to France. I mostly highly recommend a visit to that region. Hello - I’m new to the whole site, and to DS. I accidently stumbled upon you just today, Duncan, but the music has been haunting me for several years… For whatever reason, the song from The Saint soundtrack was winding around and round in my head for the past several days, not sure what the trigger was. It haunted me ever since then but reared its head recently, not sure why. I decided to find out the rest of the Story, and I stumbled across this site, so here I am. I’m in League City, TX right now but travel much for my job. I’m a Japanese-American born in Houston, TX and an artist, but I am an IT Manager by-day because I have to eat :) I live by the water (Gulf Coast) but work in Houston…. I can’t wait to get more acquainted with your music and the world of DS!

I hope to see you there again soon, but am looking forward to your show in Hoboken, NJ. There is only one other songwriter that soothes me the way you do and that is Howard Jones! I would love to see you both perform together! Do you still keep in touch? Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift with us all! I am so very much looking forward to the new album and hope to meet with you in Hoboken. Take care, have a safe and Happy 4th and may God bless you always!
    Maria

Hi! I’m from Manila in the Philippines. I’ve always wanted to see you perform and I got the chance to do so when you visited last year. So far, all I have is your first, Phantom Moon and the Daylight albums. It’s hard trying to get a copy of your second album here in Manila. Anyway, I’ll look forward to your next project.

  197. blue_psyche Says:

hey sam! i’m also from the philippines, quezon city to be exact. it’s actually kinda hard to look for duncan’s first two albums (his self-titled and humming). try to look in all the record bars. i spotted the CD versions in tower records along quezon ave. it’s a good thing i bought those two right away (i only had the cassette versions before). there aren’t any CDs of those first two albums there (coz i went again). try other record bars, especially tower records in megamall, O in rockwell and music one in greenbelt. they may still have them. happy hunting! :)

    Sam :-)

Hey hey, just thought I would add my name to the list of people in Canada. I live in a small town called St Albert. Fairly nice town. You should do a Canadian tour. Can’t wait for the next CD, I love all of your albums. Shalom!

Hello from lovely, sweaty, humid Bethesda, Maryland, just a handful of miles north of the White House as the crow flies. (Of course, the crow would have to watch out that it hadn’t violated restricted airspace…)

I can’t tell you how excited I am to see that you’re playing the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia in August - what a fantastic venue. Best acoustics in town & really great audiences, too. Don’t know if you’ve ever played the Birchmere before, but I think you’ll really enjoy it. Just a couple of months ago, I mentioned to a friend that you were on my list of “people I want to see at the Birchmere.” I’m off to buy tickets right now. Hope you fill the house. :-) — MJ

  201. Mechee Says:

Hello Duncan!! Could you possibly hang a SHARP left and up towards SEATTLE. Whenever you possibly can; I know its probably spreading your time thin huh? Seattle was once know for creating outstanding talent, however time has passed and I would love to hear some refreshing music again. If you find the time and energy, please bring your soothing voice and beautiful energy to the Pacific Northwest.

    xoxo Mechee

    Hi Duncan,
I’m Judy, originally from Abb. Louisiana but now transplanted to Houston Tx. Would love to see you live in concert as your music is some of the best that is out there. Looking forward to new CD White Limosine

  213. Mick Says:

    Hi Duncan,
I’m a bit behind with this one, but better late than never. I’m from Brisbane, Australia - only the second person from down here to comment, I noticed!
Please please PLEASE cross the many oceans to perform down here sometime! We feel very neglected!
Since I’m a first time poster, and despite the fact that I know you don’t get much of a chance to reply here, I just wanted to say that you and your music have touched me both musically and spiritually over the years. I found your first album in a second-hand CD store and picked it up on instinct, and my instinct proved correct. I’m anxiously awaiting your White Limousine, but I’m also hopeful that you’ll do another collaboration with Stephen Sater sometime in the near future!
Anyway, don’t mean to come across as a smitten fanboy! Thank you again for what you do and who you are. I think you’re really helping to change the world through music.
    Be happy :)
    - Mick

I was born in Argentina, but grew up in New Jersey - Scotch Plains, and later, Hillsborough. I’ve been living in Princeton for almost a year now (except the past two months, which I’ve spent in St. Petersburg, Russia, where I haven’t been able to find any of Duncan’s music :( ).

Cheers from the other side of the planet,
    Maria

Hi! I am writing from Indianapolis; can’t wait to see the show tommorrow night! I’ve been a fan for quite a while now and was pleasantly surprised to see that you would be hitting Indy, much less a personal venue as the Patio. Good choice.
