Songs From an Unmade Bed

I just saw the show last night at New York Theatre Workshop and it was really well done. If you are into “art songs” (and in NYC) you should definitely check it out. I’m biased because I have a song in the show, but there it is …

    Hi there,
    What is an “art song”?

Thanks for the update request…you are too kind…unfortunately, as much as I love NYC… a summer there is too hot for me, too bad I will miss the play…maybe a listen to the song in the M.O. section(k, wishful thinking). Super-looking forward to hearing/seeing you in person this weekend. Take good care.

    Cheers,

I’m disappointed that it’s only running until June 26. I leave tomorrow (or rather, today) and won’t be back in the country until mid-August. :(

But thank you for the recommendation. I hope all goes well with the rest of your shows this summer and wish you the best! Take care.

    Peace,
    Maria

I would love to check it out. It sounds wonderful. But unfortunately, I just can’t manage to get to the city this month. There’s so much going on around here this time of the year, it’s hard to get away. Ah well… But I do have my mini-vacation to Philly this weekend, which I’m very happy about.

I second Leveriza’s request for the song in the members only section. That’d be grand.

I remember I was 17 when somebody gave me a tape including Barely Breathing among other songs. I stopped and listened twice. Who?s this guy? I like the way he says-I thought and between the artists recorded there, only one name I stuck on memory: Duncan Sheik.
But at that time I was in a land where you barely survived, breathing no freedom.
Years later a friend came to me with an mp3 collection. He was very, very educated.
I recall the gesture while he said: Hey, check this guy, you may like him-yeah, there was DS again.
Life has changed to me. Now that I found myself in a period of spiritual growth I appreciate more his way of expression; pretty sharp, uninhibited. I am also a musician and would say I delight my ears with his use of the strings and guitars. It sounds very spiritual. I define perfection with a slender-line-in-perpetual-dance; the exquisite beauty of his harmony rubes this line.
I wish there were more Duncan Sheiks now days. But we haven?t got many. We are too busy buying fake pictures.
Ignoring the reasons we live for, our blind ego crawls over the web of the vanity.
I have a wide open mind; (kinda? big problem).
One side of me goes for the brain,-hunger of knowledge- kissing the global consciousness. She?s honest and gets me in trouble when I express what I think.
The other side says the first one is old shaped and rather goes with the flow, enjoying simplicity, -according to the century.
    Extremes are always wrong.
How do I reconcile both in the wise middle?

Duncan: I see you take care of your fans and seem to be a polite person. Please let me know when you have a gig in LA so I can go to hear you.

What a shame. Before I read the linked article I was actually psyched about these so-called “art songs” and hoped to hear a few songs about Frida Kahlo and Jackson Pollack.

Songs From an Unmade Bed was one of the best shows Ive seen in a long time. Oh to be stupid again was a great moment and was very well done indeed. I’ve heard rumor that the show will be recorded. I hope this is true!
