Tip of the iceberg

O.K. - we got the “members only” area going. Please be patient while we iron out any kinks with different browsers and such, but it seems to be working well so far (thanks to Todd). There will be a lot more songs and maybe some video up there soon - so stay tuned and check for updates. One of the next sets of material will be a “covers record” of songs from English bands and artists I listened to circa 1981-1989. It will probably be serialized over the next few months. And there will be other compilations of rarities and b-sides and all that kind of stuff. The possibilities are endless(ish).

    MORE covers? Yee-haw!
I love your versions of “Reel Around the Fountain” and “Blasphemous Rumors.” Would you consider “Ask Me,” or maybe a molasses/honey piano and strings version of “What She Said?”

    That would be gorgeous…
But I suppose you on any Smiths’ song would be fantastic.

Oh! My tea is chirping at me… I must go get my chamomile on.
    Sweet dreams, oh Butterfly.

  3. MarlaBurse Says:

That sounds wonderful…..Somehow I feel as if you listened to music that was listened to by Charlie in the book Perks of Being A Wallflower. I don’t know if you’ve read it, it’s kinda only good if you relate to it, but I dunno.

    Just a thought.

    Hope all is well!

Wow, more covers! Did you say English bands…any song from “The Colour of Spring” by Talk Talk…so love that album and too bad it’s a bit underrated…I love your own music…but the covers are a special treat! :-)

Take good care and thanks for being fantastic…

    Cheers,
    Leveriza

    P.S.

Thank you to Duncan and the rest of the DS staff for all the effort on this site :-)

    Okay, okay; I give.
I was skeptical at first, but you guys really seem to be on top of the web stuff this time. I joined the members area and I suspect I’ll be thrilled I did.
Can’t wait . . . congrats on a pleasantly simple, informative, and easy-to-navigate site so far.

    And thanks.

Songs from Cornell? No way this rocks!! Although nothing beats actually being there ;) You guys really are doing a great job - this site is just plain nifty - just dont burn yourself out!

De-LiSH! There sounds nothing better than you, a guitar, live and acoustic…..(if I close my eyes, I’m sitting in the audience!) :)

Props to you and your team Duncan! You guys are doing an awesome job with the sight!!! Thanks for your dedication!

hey! would you ever consider maybe taking a few requests?

  8. mattsk42 Says:

I agree with everyone’s positive reviews. Good job! Also, if you take any kind of requests, could there possibly be an instrumental track? I really liked parts in Phantom Moon where the guitars, etc. just took off and flowed. (Parts of Mouth on Fire)

I signed up last night. The Cornell show sounds like it was awesome! That reminded me exactly why I am a fan of yours. Good work Mr. Sheik.

Please come to Minnesota and play all ages shows.

“ironing out” the kinks from the “members only” section? haha. i know the jacket joke has been made before, but i still find it funny. what kind of bum wears wrinkled members only jackets anyways?

  13. keyboardplaya Says:

Hey, I just wanted to know how often that $20 has to be paid. Is it just once? Annually? Monthly?

  14. Topaz Says:

Excellent! 1981-1989 English bands…gotta love the 80’s for that! I’m very curious about which songs you did. And maybe some video too? Can’t wait! You guys are doing an excellent job. This is some seriously good stuff.

    Laura

  15. peter Says:

keyboardplaya: it?s $20 annually. we could have made that clearer, you?re right. will fix that. thanks!
    peter

  16. LaLa Says:

Be still my heart! This 80’s child is more than excited. Memories of boarding school, the days when I knew what “alternative” really was, and The Screamer of the Week is flooding my brain.

Not that I have (ahem) put any thought into this or anything, but my dream track list would probably be something roughly like this:

The Cure / In Between Days
Depeche Mode / A Question of Lust
Howard Jones / What is Love?
Smiths / What Difference Does It Make?
The Blow Monkeys / Digging Your Scene
    Bowie / Heroes
    The Jam / That?s Entertainment
Tears for Fears / Mad World
    Squeeze / If I Didn?t Love You
Talk Talk / Life?s What You Make It
Madness / It Must Be Love
Midge Ure / If I Were
When In Rome / The Promsie
Dream Academy / Life in a Northern Town
Roxy Music / More Than This
Duran Duran / Save a Prayer
Double / The Captain of Her Heart
Psychedelic Furs / Ghost in You
    XTC / Dear God

And just in case you entertain expanding your horizons to Australia
The Church / Under the Milky Way

    or the US
Til Tuesday / Coming Up Close

    Just a thought.

  17. blue_psyche Says:

$20 annually… hmmm… that’s kinda hard for me to cough up every year… and i live in manila… and i don’t have a credit card… how would non-US residents (that means Europe, South America and Asia and maybe even Africa) pay to be included in the “members only” section, especially those who don’t own credit cards and those who can’t afford to pay?

  18. FunkyFred Says:

I will definatively buy that CD! I would love to hear you do a cover of “Now my heart is full” by Morrissey! That is a fantastic song.

  19. mrchess Says:

    WHOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOOOOO
Thank You Thank You. So far just the one concert is worth the 20. And there is more to come? OHHHHHH YEAAAAAAA! Duncan, Todd…..
You are (asTony the Tiger would say) Yourrrrrr Greaaaaatttt!
    Robbie

  20. DrPepper Says:

“There will be a lot more songs and maybe some video up there soon…”

    Sweet, can’t wait.

That’s gonna be great. Agreed, some Morrissey already mentioned would be cool, but I can’t help but wonder how “Tomorrow”, “Hold On To Your Friends”, or “Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself” would be. Maybe for “cover record - 90’s edition”? Just a thought. And some Cure? That would be capital A Awesome!

Thanks for the members only section D-man and web team. My $20 goes gladly to you.;-)

  21. jenvargas Says:

Your cover of “Reel Around the Fountain” was fantastic as was “Fake Plastic Trees” - everyone’s favorite Christmas tune. (Ok, so I stole that reference from a show you did in Orlando a few years ago..)

Also, in a Muppet Newsroom random thought, please collaborate more with Howard Jones if at all possible. He’s amazing. With Howard Jones on the brain, here are some songs I’d love to hear you cover:

    Squeeze // In Today’s Room
    Howard Jones // CitySong
    Howard Jones // Exodus/Come Together
Howard Jones // I Must Go
